This site was introduced to me from a close friend. But then, I am a bit awkward to try it. Do you have any idea on how to work in this site? Please do share. Thanks

Hi, friend! I used to have projects from Odesk. All you need is to set up your account and provide all necessary info about your skills, take the Odesk Readiness Test and then you are can look for jobs according to your skills. Just a reminder, do apply for jobs that have verified accounts as this will be your protection from being paid. There are a lot of posts there made by unverified accounts and that being said, you may not have any claims fro your earnings if they do not pay. Odesk is one good site where you can look for online jobs. Some would offer jobs that is on an hourly basis and some would be on a fixed rate.

And just to add to that.... If you start work, you have to log in to Odesk as they have a monitoring system that will allow the employerto see that you are working on the said time and that you complete the number of hours required from you. Payments are usually paid at the end of the week. As a beginner, I suggest that you make your rate a bit lower than the rest would so that you can have the edge on that particular job. The employer is charged 10% for every amount you are paid for. This is how Odesk earns. feel free to ask me more about Odesk.

The other users did a good job explaining the technical side and the how-to of oDesk so I will just explain my experience. I have worked on oDesk for the last few years. It is a good site to do freelance anything especially if you have high quality tech, marketing or design skills. I focus on article writing. I would say it is hard to get started since there are a lot of qualified workers and foreign workers who drive prices down ($1-$2/hr or less based on job). My tips would be to focus on fixed price jobs and not hourly (no way to compete with someone willing to work for pennies/hr), provide great sample portfolio and take the skills tests to prove your worth, and aim for the bigger jobs instead of wasting time on a few bucks here and there. I used to do sets of 10 articles for $40 each weekly. I never write articles on topics I am not familiar with since it wastes time on research and makes the pay not worth it. Good luck with your freelancing!

Hi Michie! To say $1-$2/hour less is an understatement. I had one company, boasting to be an American company, wanting to pay $0.40/hour for a virtual assistant. I had a few choice words for them and their oh-so American work ethic... I told them that they should be ashamed of themselves.

Hi Shavkat!, you know i have tried applying at odesk but i did not push through because they require lots of documents. They also need to interview you and i did not have the time that is why i cancelled my application. Besides, i don't think i can still work online because i have a full time job and most of my time at home is doing household work. Anyway some of my friends say the site is legitimate.

Odesk is a site for freelancers of various specialties. You have to do some real-life work as a freelancer in order to get money from odesk. The site doesn't really pay you itself, but the employer who asked you to do a project for him is responsible for your payment. Project vary, from audio/video services, to graphics design, programming, etc.

Well, just apply for a particular job that you know you are capable of doing. The best technique in Odesk is to flaunt what you know and clients will be trying to hire you.

Odesk is a good freelancing site to start your career in the world of online jobs. It’s one way flexible because you can choose from a wide range of job offers posted on the site. Basically, employers hires independent contractors for some projects their company is in need. It may be from complex to simple micro job projects. It depends on you on what project you would like yourself to get involved with. To start off with odesk, you must register with a verified paypal account since payments are made direct on paypal transfer. Update your Odesk Profile, write something about yourself on your contractor profile so that employers will read more information about yourself, your educational attainment, your skills and expertise. Basically its putting all your edge from others on the odesk site. The more skills and infos you are putting the more your profile will be entertained by posted employers. It's also a good way to put your working samples and portfolios on your odesk profile be it a written article, SEO content, photoshopped and logo image etc. Any working samples is appreciated and is important to build good reputation once you've applied to some projects on the site. Involve yourself with Odesk test, by joining an odesk posted test you are able to put up a good reputation on your odesk profile. The more odesk test you participate the more that you are capable of the said job postings. Lastly, put up a good impression by writing a good cover letter to your employer. Stating your skills, and your expertise. Don’t feel nervous to ask any further information on your employer regarding the workload that you have applied, the more questions you ask on the job it means that you are interested with it.
