Today I saw this mail in my ‘spam’, it says; be careful with this message. Many people marked similar messages as phishing scams, so this might contain unsafe content. And the mail is supposed to come from ‘Paypal ‘paypal@accounts.com to undisclosed recipients; it says; ‘There’s an issue with your account; ‘Dear Paypal user We recently noticed an issue with your account. What's the problem? For reasons relating to the safe use of the PayPal service we need some more information about some of your recent sales. Reference Number: PP-001-555-194-277 To see what you can and can't do while your account is limited, please go to the Resolution Centre Or simply Click Here To Verfiy Your Account info; You'll be able to withdraw money from your account within 180 days. More over see this spelling; ‘Paypal’ it is not ‘PayPal’ . I know this is foul mail, hence landed in spam folder. But I want to know; how Gmail knows it is spam? Who sends such mails? What is their benefit? Please respond and share your views. Thanks in advance. Enjoy a Happy Sunday Professor ‘Bhuwan’. . 08/12/2012

I forward such emails to spoof@paypal.com and spam@uce.gov, and then put into my spam folder. Paypal wants to see these, so that they can investigate.

Hi Prof, before when I was very an active user of Paypal. I also received an email similar as yours, as far as I can remember, the email was instructing me to login my username and password to the link given for security purposes. It smelled fishy so I didn't do what the email instructed me to do, but I send an email to Paypal regarding the said email. And less than 12 hours, they replied to me that it was just a bogus mail. Be very careful on emails. Might as well confirm it with Paypal with a copy of print screen of it.

It does sound questionable my friend. I would be very cautious about it. Maybe you should log on to the paypal site and ask them about it. If it was from them (and I don't think it is...) then they will have a duplicate on the site in your account I would think.

It has actually been a long time since I've gotten one of the spam emails that is supposed to be from paypal. However, I do have to tell you that any time that I get something that could even possibly be related to paypal, I will delete the mail and log directly into my paypal account. There have also been a lot of different phishing scams that I have forwarded to Paypal for further investigation because it is clear that they are trying to rip people off.

So far nothing to scammed in my paypal, but thank you for this warning. The mail is almost believable because it stated an alarming situation about your account and they have even use or gave link for help centers. But how they address the account owner is doubtful and asking for your info is the crucial one. I can say how this email is done very smart you can almost fall if you are not so smart.

hi professor if you get another one send it to abuse paypal.com so they know that phishing is g oing on. the people who do this have tried to make it look real but you realized Paypad does n ot address you as undisclosed recepiten so its all false.they are frauds who want your info on how to getinto yo ur acoount so they can steal any money there from you. You are wise and also Gmail can tell by the discreptancies in the wa y you were addressed the spelling of the message and other terms that thy do not use and they would address yo u u sing your eami address too. it is a horrid scam and I am glad gmail was smart to put it in the right place.they are crooks thats whyo they are and tghey steal enough legitimate addresses to make it believable until you start really looking at it. to begin with I do not think there is a Safety advice for Pay pal at least not listed that way. They overdid it w ith all the legalese stuff thats all phony too.

Gmail must have some sort of filter to detect these things. When ever any official mail comes to my inbox , it will have a label to separate it from fakes. Gmail does make mistakes, however. Even if there is an official label, I always go directly to the site from my address bar, never from any email .link.

This is definitely a scammer's technique to make you give them your paypal account details unknowingly. I regularly received emails purported to be from paypal but almost always disregard them. Have a great day. Ciao!
