Give A Little Whistle...

One of my earliest memories is my Dad whistling as he got ready for work. Then I thought I want to learn to whistle.
After all, how simple and cool is whistling? You can make a tune with your lips.
Then I noticed something a few weeks ago...
No one whistles anymore.
Thinking about it, would you agree that the WALKMAN, DISCMAN, MP3 PLAYER and then the SMARTPHONE negates the need to whistle?
Why would we need to whistle if we have our favourite songs playing on our electronic devises?
The demise of the tuneful whistle...
I think I will whistle more.
What about you?
You know how to whistle, don't you?
You put your lips together and... blow.

When I was a teen there was a lady at our church who could whistle beautifully. She had lost her singing voice due to an illness but she loved music. We had her up front whistling hymns from time to time. I do not whistle very melodically or warbly, but I can and do still whistle and hum. I like to make my own music, or sing along. I am pretty resistant to a lot of the new devices, and most of the time I have music running in my head, even without them. I wonder if the lack of whistling is a sign of discontentment, or if not whistling is a source of discontentment. I guess we will never know for sure.

I can whistle still but I can't whistle like I used to because I have false teeth. That changed it all. So I have to whistle a bit differently. I just kind of whistle my own little tune. Sometimes I'll hum.

No, I can not whistle. I do focus in on specific instruments, mimic their rhythms and count rest times. My music teacher taught us that years ago and somehow its an automatic thing for me now.
There is always humming and singing along too. God save anyone who hears me sing though.

I hardly whistle because I never really whistled. And I am not good at it either. I do agree that no many people actually whistle anymore. I have not heard anyone whistle in a very long time. I don't know if I would say that the technology stopped us, but it might have slowed it down. But I do hear people humming still.

Now that you mention it, you are so right. People used to whistle all the time and now you rarely hear it. I never gave it much thought but I do have a couple of customers that come in and they do whistle as the walk around the store. One is an older woman and it never fails to make me smile. I havent even whistled in years and I honestly can't blame electronics as I don't have them. I was just whistling as I typed to make sure I still could. A little rusty but yep...I can.

The old songs had tunes that could be easily whistled and therefore perhaps we found people whistling in the good old days. Just my opinion.

Hi friend, i know about whistling and whistled a lot during my school and college days. But now i am not interested with such kind of things. Some times we will start whistling without our knowledge if we listen our favorite song and good music

I do not believe that they can replace the need to whistle. Either one is a whistler or one is not. Rather like singing really. People who love to sing when they are happy will still sing no matter how often they listen to walkmans etc. If a man likes to whistle when he relaxes he will still do so. Perhaps the problem is more that we fill our minds with voices and music from others so that we rarely let our minds digest and empty themselves any more. We need a little silence to listen to ourselves and let our personal music flow.

Yes, I know how to whistle. I still do to call the attention of my students when they are noisy. Either, i sing or I whistle. I don't like to stress out myself quieting them. I just sing sometimes or whistle.. then they will all be quiet. I use microphone by the way, that's why they can hear even at the top of the voice.
