I am the type of person who couldn't stop thinking what to buy when there is still much to spend. So the consequence is we always come short of funds everytime. I've been trying so hard to be frugal so I can save for my family for the unpredictable rainy days ahead. But I feel so deprived every time that I attempt to do it. Sometimes new products, new gadgets are just so hard to resist; and can't help but give in to the temptation.
I know it is crucially important to save especially for the kids. Their future should be the ultimate goal in the family. But I just find it so hard to do it. Can anyone share some practical and effective ways to do it?

Buying new things sometimes doesn't make people happy. Find free things in life that give you peace and happiness.

The best way is to get a piece of paper and work put down all the money you have coming in. You can work out the the costs per month. Then you can put down all the essential things you pay for like water, electric power, phone and Internet. You can list how much you spend on food and drink. You could save money each month to help your family as and when they need this.
You can take out so much money from the bank each month but only that amount. If you have money left over you could spend it. However you would have put money in the bank account. It is possible to eat and drink budget food. It is easy to buy second hand clothing. Good luck.

You say you can't help but give in to temptation when you come across new products and new gadgets. I think if this is something that happens while you are shopping and you make impulse buys then the first thing to do is make a list of the essential things to buy that you need. When you do make an impulse buy like that, write down how you felt, if it was guilt, shame or regret then you need to come up with personal reasons why you don't want that to happen again so you can thing of those things when temptation hits again. You already have good reasons, the financial security of your family. It's how much you want that over the short term indulgence of spending that extra money on something that brings temporary joy.

Avoid going to malls more often.
Avoid having too cash or do not carry your credit in your pocket each time you go to malls to avoid the temptation.

Everyone goes through that. You need to control yourself. You cant keep buying new gadgets as they come up in the market. You need to think it over , is it worth it ? how long will i use this product? do i have sufficient cash to buy this product ?will i be using it only or my family members will be using it too.
One statement which every stingy person lives by " Save money ,money will save you."

I used to be like you when I was still in College. It was like a disease for me as it seemed like I could not get away from it. Whenever I have the money, I always thought of splurging all of them on anything - bags, some pairs of shoes and sandals, clothings - even if I didn't need those things; sometimes when we go out with my friends, I had always volunteered to pay for the bills. After college, I have suffered so hard to fight it but it seemed like it really felt good whenever I buy anything...until I didn't have any money left. I didn't want to ask help from my parents as they expected me to work on my own so, I asked assistance from my boyfriend, who helped me organize my finances, etc. Now, I have a journal where I write all the expenses that I spent for the day, and I have to make sure that the amount that I will spend on that day should not be more than my savings.

Maybe you need your hands and feet to be tied up so you could not go anywhere else! But seriously, shopping could be an addiction. You might have seen some stories on TV about people who have been addicted to shopping. And not unless you see what are the repercussions of your behavior, then you would just find yourself in debt. Think of some of the people who barely has nothing and yet still struggle to do something just to earn something and buy them some food.
