Do you use ear plugs when you sleep?

Philippines
December 11, 2012 2:36am CST
It was my first time to use ear plugs last night. I could still hear some noise but it was minimized. Like they were coming from afar. But if my sister was the one talking, I could hear her loud and clear. Maybe, I didn't push well the ear plugs because I was worried of not getting them out of my ears. LOL. How about you fellow myLotters, do yu need any help from ear plugs? Can you tolerate noise? Can you sleep in a noisy environment? I can't. I just wish we have internet connection at home just like the previous days so that I can myLot if I can't get to sleep.

I don't like any noise when I am sleeping because I like it all silent when I am sleeping. I remember when one day I kept my speakers on while I was sleeping and there was a long list of the songs which kept on playing till the morning. I did not felt fresh that day, so I don't do this again.

Oh, you're right. I also turn off my phone when I'm listening to music because I suddenly wake up at the middle of the night and couldn'tget back to sleep especially if I hear my favorite songs. LOL. It's better to sleep without music. i hope we always have a silent environment. Thanks for posting and happy mylotting.

That is truth, if it my favorite music then I am sure it will interfere with the sleep, which require that my senses go down.

LOL. Instead of sleeping, we enjoy listening to music. Haha... I guess if we really need to sleep, we shouldn'tlisten to music at all. Let's just close our eyes and tell ourselves that we have to sleep.

No, I don’t wear ear-plugs while sleeping at home since I have a quiet environment at home and my neighborhood is quite solemn and away from the city streets. Since I live in a private housing community, I am comfortable sleeping without ear plugs. But when I am on travelling like on plane, bus, ship or any long travel I use ear-plugs.

Wow. It's so comfortable to sleep in your home. There is no noise around you. I wish our boarding house is like your home. No noise. Thanks for sharing and happy mylotting.

Thanks for your reply. well, it's because i live uptown so i am far from the urban crowd that's why... but sometimes it's quite boring because you all hear the breeze and no city life... i go out once in awhile and go downtown to go to the malls and cafe's just to escape from the solemnity.

lol...I'm partially deaf so I don't wear ear plugs when I go to bed. I listen to the radio talk shows when I go to bed and I use those things you put in your ears, not a headset but there is one for each ear. Sometimes I don't put it in the ear I lost 100% hearing in and sometimes I do and I do hear some sound from it.

I don't like loud person. In fact, if I cannot endure the loud things they are creating. I used to confront the person, if it will not work out. Then let the police officers suppressed their being inconsiderate.

Oh, that's godd. I guess I also have to be like you. I don't confront those noisy people because I know that they know what's right and wrong. I guess they could hear themselves that they are talking so loud and that they're still awake at the middle of the night while others are already sleeping and some can't sleep due to their noise. If I already have my part time in January and they continue being noisy, I'm going to confront them already. Thanks for posting and happy mylotting.

Hi angelkarah, i have never used ear plugs before. Well, i can sleep even in the noisy environment if i am really tired. It doesn't help me much even if i put on the ear plugs.. LOL. I will just have to doze off by my own.

I can also sleep with a noisy environment if I am so tired. But if my mind is still active and the people around me are noisy, I can hardly sleep. Thanks for posting and happy mylotting.

Personally, every time I go to sleep I always turn on the tv or the radio because I'm use to it already and I really can not sleep without any type of sound, may it be in a form of noise,music,etc.. This also applies every time I study or memorize something (kinda weird). Weird but true, and it gives positive result though. :)

I also can tolerate noise when I'm studying or memorizing but I can't tolerate noise if I'm sleeping. I guess some people are used to sleep with the tv or radio on. When I was living in another boarding house, they had a newborn baby there and they let the baby listen to music all of the time even if she was already sleeping. I guess she got used to the noise already. Thanks for posting and happy mylotting.

I have used earplugs many may time, and have used them more often over the last 3 years or so. I lived in the city and there were parties going on in the houses around that would awaken me, I found with earplugs that I stopped hearing the noise and got into the habit of using them even now where noise is at a minimum apart from the occasion aircraft coming into land at the airport about 5 miles away. _Derek

I have never heard of there being problems with using earplugs. I think you have to be careful when inserting them into the ear canal, and with some taking them out gently, which I do. My hearing is the same now as it was before. I can hear everything OK. But you are probably better talking to an expert if you are worried about using them.. _Derek

Oh, thanks for posting? Is there no harm in using ear plugs? Some mylotters say that it's not advisable to use earplugs because they can damage our ears. Is that true?

I tried once. I didn't suit me at all. I am unused to the plug in my ear though it diminished the sound. I think I am more comfortable in sleeping without one, even without the night mask.

I also don't need the night mask but I guess I need to minimize the noise. I would only use earplugs if I need them. I won't use them every night I guess. Thanks for posting and happy mylotting.

No I haven't used ear plugs during my sleep. I have stayed near a railway station for 3 months, due to which I had to hear noises of train though out the night, it was hard to adapt to that for few day, but after 4 days I was able to sleep quiet well, but I haven't use ear plugs for sleeping till now...

Wow, a railway station. I won't last a week staying in your place. LOL. That's so noisy. I'm glad you were able to adapt with it. It's good that you don't need any earplugs. Thanks for posting and happy mylotting.

Do you listen to music til you get to sleep? I sometimes just put my earphones in my ears so when I wake up because one of my favorites songs is playing, I couldn't go back to sleep immediately. LOL. It was one of our neighbors wifi. I guess he or she locked it already so I couldn't access it anymore. LOL. Whenever I try surfing, it says "connection failed."

Yes, I also thought about that. What if using them won't let me hear someone trying to wake me up but actually I can hear some noise but they sound so far from me. I told my sister to talk to me last night and her voice was still a bit loud and clear. LOL. I told my self that they seemed useless. LOL. But when you're asleep you can no longer hear noise until you are fully awake.

Lucky you. I hope I am like you. I could sleep with some noise around me. I won't consider using them every night. I'll just use them if my housemates are drinking and chitchatting and if I need to get sleep immediately. Thanks for posting and happy mylotting.

When I'm trying to get to sleep, the only noises I really have a problem with are repeating noises... and I've found that to be a big problem when I've tried out earplugs. When those are in, I can hear every breath I take, and sometimes I can even hear my heartbeat... and those drive me bonkers! Turns out it's much easier for me to just lie in peace until I'm asleep, then have in earplugs.

Oh, yeah. You're right. We can hear our breathing, etc. I guess ear plugs are helpful to others and not to some who feel uncomfortable with them. Thanks for posting and happy mylotting.

i'm honestly puzzled by some of the responses. i think some were thinking about earbuds/earphones and headsets used when listening to music and falling asleep with it. anyway... so where did you buy earplugs? how much did it cost you? i got mine from my sister. it's made of foam so it's soft. you squeeze it before putting it in your ear. yes, using ear plugs only minimizes the noise, but it still helps someone like me who is easily awakened by sounds. it's understandable that you hear your sister's voice above other noises because we're subconsciously tuned in to some sounds more than others, especially loved ones.

I also got puzzled with some of the responses. My husband bought them maybe months ago. I didn't bother asking him the price. LOL. But if I'll buy again, I'll check the price. You're right. I'm squeezing them so that they can fit into my ears. My sister and I share a room in our boarding house and she usually talks to me whenever I have to go to sleep. LOL. So, if I want to sleep already, I'll tell her not to talk to me anymore. She can sleep with a noisy evironment. We are opposite. LOL. Thanks for sharing and happy mylotting.

We are with each other on weekdays. We only separate on weekends. We are working in the same office. LOL. Yeah, you're right. I understand them. I guess they are not so familiar with ear plugs.

they probably interpreted your topic as falling asleep while listening to music wearing earphones/earbuds or headsets because wearing ear plugs isn't common here like in other countries. i think they also wear a different type of ear plug for swimming. oh, i'm sure they're cheap, but i don't know where i can buy them here, so i just wash mine when they get dirty. maybe your sister is maximizing your bonding time because you have different schedules and you don't have other family members around you.

Maybe you can try buying ear plugs in ACE Hardware. I saw a post about it. It says you can buy different ear plugs there.

No, I don't. It's damaging to the ears. Once the ears are damaged, you can't just drink medicine to repair them. But I also have difficulty sleeping in a noisy environment. Good thing it is always silent here and my neighbors rarely have parties or videokes. But I turn on my radio sometimes and tune it on a very mellow station and I use speakers. I don't have a 20-20 vision so I'm really taking good care of my ears now.
