I wonder about some customers

I had to close the store last night by myself, a lady was in the store, I had told her 5 minutes we were closing, she was really nice about it. I cashed her out, and was around the ounter when another lady comes walking in. I told her we are closing by that time it was 5pm. She just stared at me, and goes I know what I want. So seeing as I didnt close the computer, and count the money I thought be nice she grabs what she wants and leaves. Well she starts looking at dog beds, so I went shut everything else down, and lock the doors. She then demands me to pull 6 off and have a look *btw she didn't buy any of them*. She then goes gets some canned dog food. Now by then I had most of the lights off, and everything closing down. She then starts asking how much it is per can of 12 (as if you buy 12, 24, and so on you get a discount dor this can it was about 0.10 cents off per 12 tins you buy). She kept asking so I had to pull a calculator out, and she was screaming across the store saying it doesn't say this on the sign. She had a can of beef, and salmin NOT lamb. Here she's looking at the lamb which is cheapier. She starts screaming at me, and drags me over to the cans (I seriously could care a less by then). I pointed out the different flavours (one being a smaller tin right beside the others). She grabs a tin, and knocks half the shelf of tins off. By then I was getting rather annoyed I was 15 minutes after closing if I am not out by 530 the alarm goes off and then the police come, and double check, I have to call the manger and the owners who have to come out. I cashed her out, after telling her I cant change the price, the manger does that. She is thinking I should give her 24 cans free because the signs wrong (which isnt how scop works, we dont do scop), and I cant magically change the number. I cash her out, and she stood there another 5 minutes complaining. I just ignored her and did my paper work. When she left she walked into the door, as after cosing hours, the doors lock, and you have to manually unlock them. I stood there laughing at her, it was rather funny, since she couldn't figure out why the door wasn't opening. I then started continuing the money after the door locks, and she sat in her car watching me. I count over $4,000 infront of me, and she could see this in plan sight, I am there by myself. She starts pasing up and down in front of the store, I was getting nervous, since I had such a large amount of money. So I hit the panic button to call the police.

Wow that's crazy that lady did that to you, she probably only did it because she knew you were getting ready to close. And that's freaky she stood there watching you and paced until you were going to leave. Did the police ever come to the store and what did they do? Hopefully you won't have to experience that again.

They escorted her off the property and banned her from the property.

Around here the police say they would rather we report stuff and it not be a problem than not report it and have something bad happen. You have basically described a scenario that could be a ruse to get your guard down so they can rob you. Did the police show up and escort her away?

Yes, they band her from the property. That is very true, it's usually when we are by ourselves since all 3 of us are females and young. I've had several people come up to me after I activated the alarm, and lock the door, and corner me.

Ahhh you didnt write what happened next thats going to drive me nuts wondering lol. That sounds scary. It makes me wonder what in the world she was waiting outside and pacing for. What was she planning to do you know. I am glad you hit the panic button. Please tell me what happened next. I cant imagine having $4000 in the drawer at one time wow. I think the most you can have in most stores in a register around here is $100.

Wow yeah I definitely hate having to serve customers when you are only a couple minutes from closing or you are already past the time when you are supposed to be closed. I work in restaurants so it happens pretty frequently and it can be pretty frustrating when you have everything shut off and put away and then you get an order. Basically I have to try and get all the food rewarm and get it all out at the same time because sometimes the warmers are also turned off. I also have to try and not make a mess while making the food because I often have everything all clean at this point. So what ended up happening though? Did the police arrest that lady or something? Definitely sounds like a really weird customer and a hard person to deal with.

There always are some customers that you have to deal with when you are doing anything in customer service that you really have to wonder about. However, I have to say that the thing that bothers me more than the story that you've shared here about the customer is the fact that you were the only one working in the store. It would be a lot safer if there was always at least two people working at a time. In fact, I don't think that I've ever been in a store where there is only one employee working at a time, there is always at least two employees working and sometimes many more than that.

That sounds like a very vulnerable position you are in, I hope you get paid well, but somehow I suspect you don't. This woman sounds like a total nutter, you were wise to call the police, you don't know what her intentions are and no job or money is worth risking your life over. I am sure there were a lot of 'what if's' going around your head. I hope the police arrived and dealt with her swiftly.

What happened after you hit the panic button? i wonder? I think this customer was just trying to annoy you, she was trying to see if you could come out and lure you into a mouth fight, or something?! hehe Im just glad that you are okay though and nothing bad happened ( i suppose that is the reason because you have come to share this experience with us here in mylot. About the customer, you sure are right about this, there are some people who are so inconsiderate, who wants to be served like that but don't deserve it. oh anyway.. just be more patient, there are many more who are not as bad, anyway. :D

I think people that shop last minute should have gone to the store earlier. That lady sounds weird to me and she annoyed you a great deal. It was worrying that the lady stayed looking at you counting the money. I am so pleased that you called the police. I am glad the police got her to go away and she is not allowed to return to the pet store.

Having heard this from you, I think I need to share this interesting fact I know about panic buttons. When the police or anyone that will be able to help asks you if you are OK and you respond with "I'm fine" or something to that effect, they will take it the opposite way. They will ask AGAIN if you are OK, and when you say you're fine again, they will send in a bunch of police cars down your way. And that my friends, is how you use the PANIC button :)
