It’s our annual Christmas travel and it seems from our plans that I cannot travel with my new dog. He’s clear for travel but I think he’ll have a bad, bored and stressed time while traveling a eight hour road trip. I think he’ll be bored enough that he’ll resort to sleeping during the entire time. He’s still under a year and I think it would be better if I just leave him with our relatives besides, we’ll be gonna for less than a week (approximately) and we’ll be back for the new Year. Although he will be okay in the hands of my relatives, I worry for myself because it might not just him that might suffer from separation anxiety. I might be suffering from not seeing that cute face, that little legs running after me and that cute bark. It might elss than a week but it feels going to be like ages.

I have two miniature poodle dogs and I miss them greatly when I am not with then. This happens when I am on a trip away from home. My mom usually looks after them both when I am on my travels.
When my oldest dog was a puppy and a young dog I took him on trips within my home country. I wasn't able to take my dogs to Cornwall due to pets not being allowed in the accommodation. I hope you enjoy your Christmas travels and that you don't miss your new dog.
Good luck.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well i can understand your situation and i think in this case, u should leave your dog at your relatives place since u are saying that they will take care of your dog properly in your absence.
I know it must be hard for u to stay away from your dog but then u cannot take him with you for such a long trip because if his health deteriorates then where will u go. So it is better to leave him at your relatives place and ask them to keep it engaged so that he does not miss u that much.
What say?

I surmised as much. However, it is really kinds of a different shift in me. I have been accustomed for almost two months in this little guy's presence. My day isn't compete without worrying over his needs and what he might need. I try to keep a distance but I think have been in a losing battle ever since he came into this house.of course, i try to keep back my normal routine but that routine now included that mutt.

I definitely understand not wanting to leave your little pup. They're so hard to be apart from even for a few days! I have a little maltese and always miss the little fluffy guy.
One thing for future times to note is that for some people who travel with dogs I know they give them benadryl. It's completely safe if correct dosage is used and it's nothing other than benadryl (not benadryl sinus or anything like that) and acts as a mild sedative so travel is really easy. My dog is tiny enough that he comes on board with us in a little carrier and goes under the seat and for his first flight (per vet's recommendation) we gave him a small amount of it and he slept for the whole thing and it was perfect.

I am not sure about that medication.my vet did offer assistance when I mentioned that he might be travelog but since the circumstances changed and he's not put in otehr people's care, I am not thinking about it now. I guess we could try again when the things are more easier for him to travel.
