Dealing with complaining people: You could at least say thank you though

Have you ever been in a situation wherein you dealt with people who like to complain on some things… for instance, a person ordering at a restaurant and he is complaining with the menu and after he is done with his complain and the personnel solved the issue he didn’t even say thank you to the personnel. I’ve saw a situation just like this in one fine restaurant in my place wherein a customer acts like this, If I were in the personnel shoes, I would tell him frankly that he is acting rude and he should at least say thanks on the service I am rendering rather than complaining and at the end he doesn’t give credit to the personnel. Must be a long time ago.. by now most people are complaining (after leaving or at home) and only get bad service. Even if it's asked if everything is fine they don't say it's not. And if so.. there is on service or respond. I can remember it was years ago but by now customers aren't king anymore. Nobody cares if you come back, if the quality is fine.. you pay a high price for bad food.

I have in the past. I just don't put up with them anymore. I am retired so I don't have to take complaints anymore. I worked in customer service for nearly thirty years and I think I must have heard it all. I am so glad I don't have to anymore. Now days people are so rude and selfish. It is very sad.

And don't you just get annoyed as well when these customers would slap you in the face with the "Customers are always right" ?! I feel for these personnel. I know that there are people who take advantage of being a customer and they malign service crew.

So true! They really take advantage on the people working on small scale works, they feel that they are more superior than them. It's so, not human to do such kinds of gestures in such places. Thanks for your response.

Hello, dear! Just to add to what I have said. I have noticed sometimes that my nephews would be making fun of these people, also to house helps. And that makes me mad. I would always tell them that we pay our help for the services that they provide us and we are not buying them as a person.

That's really sad to hear they should at least appreciate their service render to them. they should also be thankful that they didn't end up on their shoes because it really is hard to be discriminated with your working status. well anyway this is such an eye opener. thanks for your response i do appreciate it!

This is something that we should be thinking of. I wonder who created the customer is always right belief which makes a lot of people think that they deserve this and that when they are the customer. Because of this, they ignore the people serving them and treat them badly and most of the time being unreasonable. So the customer you mention must have thought what the personnel did was his job scope and there is no need for a respect and thankful act. The customer is wrong.

Good point there, Yes. we should always put cautious on our actions most especially when we are in a public domain most especially conforming our attitudes because people might not like what we show off publicly. Thanks for your response.

hi, We can see many people around us who are always complaining for something. some people think like all the world is their enemy and always find faults of others. Kindness and understanding is far away from these people. they are arrogant and rude to others. they even don't have etiquette and manners. they don't get any respect from others. I hate such people.

Great observation! Yeah, some people think that they are more powerful than others that they don't even put equality in some sort, they feel that they are more superior that they feel that they are stepping people that has a low job. I don't like such people either. Thanks for your response.

There are people who are so much addicted to grumbling about everything that they cannot even a utter a word of praise even for a thing which has genuinely impressed them. The habit of complaining becomes so regular with them that their mere presence in a gathering or any other place disturbs the happy and fun environment of the place.

True! they just make the venue a more chaotic and a more not appealing approach in a way that they will eventually make a scene. I hope people should bare in mind, that we are equal in some ways, and act a more decent way rather than being such a dirtbag and complain. Thanks for your response.

I know someone that goes to restaurants with the intent of getting at least 1 meal for free. I think it is so wrong. No matter what they complain. If I was the owner after a few times, I think I would get the point and ask them to not come back.

I've experienced this on the other food. I absolutely love this little local cafe that has wonderful homemade food, but they have the rudest waitress I've ever met in the food industry.

There are people who are like that, they always complain even with simple things but they never appreciate any kind or good service provided for. I can say that, those kind of people are bitter- they don't know happiness at all.
• Philippines

Make sense, yes. they are really bitter and they feel that they are superior since they are served by other people. Thanks for your response.

There are some people who are not grateful to everything. They used to complain much, I don't like these people. I will just stay away from them and ignore the fact that I had acquainted with them.

I do not like to be with people who complain a lot. This attitude does not only annoy me but it also brings embarrassment. I know we all are given the chance complain but at least in a good and peaceful way.

Aside from rude, maybe the customer was discriminating the personnel. if it is "fine" restaurant, then I assume that the customer came from the higher level of the society or acting as he belongs to elite group, like "I am over you". Well it just shows that he's not just rude, discriminative he is also immature. WEll different folks with different strokes... just so irritating.

Hi. I honestly dislike people like these too, but can you blame them? If they are going to a service place (like a restaurant), of course they expect to be served in excellence. I do dislike people who complain a lot about work though. For instance, I had this college classmate who complained simply about everything we did in the Theatre class (we were doing props and stuff). She does not even consider that everyone else is as tired as her (maybe even more since all she does is complain and not work). On thanking people, I think some people are naturally courteous and acknowledging. Some people just do not give a hell about anything. Although it's annoying, it's not like you can tell them all the time.

Thanks for your response. People have different personalities the best way that one can do is to learn the value of respect. but anyhow, we all have different views on this subject.

That isn't fair! He just payed for food and drinks but not service, he doesnt understand that he should treat people as people because they are people too. In fact these people did him a favor and they are not obliged to help him especially if he didn't tip well. Those people work their backs on those restaurants, they deserve some respect.

True true, people should always see that there is no barrier between people most especially in their working status... i don't see why people discriminate others because of their low positions much worse being rude. Thanks for your response.

I could be this person, lol. There are times when we really need to make a complaint because some sales people are not doing their job well. Which reminds me of an experience yesterday and which I will use it to start a discussion.

LOL, thanks because this discussion is an inspiration to your discussion haha anyhow, i am not referring to those personnel over business establishments who are not doing their job well. I am referring to people who are complaining although they are given service to satisfy their wants... Thanks for your response.

I have had and have lot of people around me who have complaint regarding everything. But these section of people never become happy. When the life is comfortable they are unhappy that the life is sos comfortable and when the life is not comfortable they complain the the life is not comfortable. They remain unhappy for ever.

Thanks for your reply. such people needs to deal with their life in good possibility rather than thinking of it in a negative approach... they should also be thankful for the small things rather than ignoring them and keep complain about it.

There are really ill mannered people who are like that. They think that because it's the obligation of the waiter to serve them, they won't even say thank you for some complaints that were dealt with. No wonder, as i have seen on TV a long time ago, some kitchen people would spit on the foods of those arrogant customers. So let's be careful in complaining specially in restaurants.
• Philippines

Yes it's kind of a hurtful fact, they feel that they are superior since they slaved the waiters or waitresses over a restaurant. sometimes, people like them are often people who are insecure and has nothing to do with their lives. Thanks for your response.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well such kinds of people are very easily seen every where they are more rebellious and harsh towards the service rendered to them. To be very honest, no doubt we should oppose and raise our voice whenever a bad service is being rendered to us but that does not mean we will take the support of violence or bad temper to handle the situation. We can sort out the issues in a better way. What say?

If you open your mouth in that situation, then you most likely loose your job. I think many take others for granted, and don`t thank them enough.

Most people who are complaining actually did not find a solution to the problem, but the goal merely just wants his audience to help support its negative attitude towards the complaint and agreed to that negative statement. So he wanted was support for others being wrong, no matter what it is and however it's his fault, he was just looking for a satisfying his emotion alone, not advice. People who worked at public service, customer service are need to hear these much of complaints, it's actually also not good to your brain to hear all the negative things.

Very true! most especially that they don't know the emotion that the person whom they have had affected negatively will somehow puts marks on them. Somehow such people should put a barrier between patience and their rudeness. Thank you so much for your response, and your take on the subject matter.
