I think I pulled a muscle in my back but I'm not sure. I woke up Thursday morning and was hardly able to move my lower back was in severe pain. I can't even bend over or do anything. If I sit for a period of time and go to stand up I can't move for atleast a minute before my back lets me walk. Today is day 3 and my back is still sore i can move a little better but hurts to sit. I been using a heating pad for it but I was told not to keep doing that as it can cause the area to swell. So what else can I do to help relieve this pain? It's very painful and I would love to be able to move and walk normal before Christmas. Would be grateful for any suggestions as how to relief back pain or pulled muscle, thanks.

You can try to have complete bed rest and try to do proper bed positioning. Low back pain is commonly affects the lower back. If you still have intense pain and it radiates down to your limb, it affects your nerve. You might consult a doctor for that, to prevent further injury.

Thanks the back pain is still there but not bad i been stretching it more and trying not to sit in one spot for too long. There's days it bothers me again and days it doesn't. I'm just glad it's not like it was when it first happened and I hope I never get it again.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well i can understand your situation very much and i know how much it would be paining for u to move around with such a back pain. Even i had experienced one such pain once and thankfully it was for a temporary time period.
Firstly i would like to advise u not to pick up heavy objects and do any such strenuous activities. Secondly please consult a doctor and i am sure he will help u out to overcome this problem. I hope u recover soon.
What say?

I can't pick up heavy objects anyways I have a heart problem so can't lift over 50 pounds. I been taking it easy and not doing a whole lot with my back not being right. I did a bit more today though I did laundry and cleaned a bit but now my back hurts so I'm resting now.

When this happens to my husband, it's his sciatic nerve, and three or four visits to his unconventional chiropractor takes care of it. If it happens to me, I take a couple of generic tylenol pm and go to bed and it usually straightens me out. Hope you find relief soon!!

I hurt my back in my twenties and had to spend over a month sleeping on the floor. Every time I even lay for a few minutes on the bed it started hurting again. I have been very careful about my beds since then, but I never want to experience that again.
Hummmm, wonder if that might not be why I have a problem now with my leg going to "sleep" or the occasional pain in my hip...

A few days ago, I experienced a muscle pull on my back. It was not as severe as your back pain though. I could still do most of my daily activities except for some discomfort which I ignored. But it was obvious it was not going away so quickly. So the first thing I did was apply muscle ache creams. But the heat did not stay long. The problem was still there a couple of days later. Then I switched to a patch for muscle/joint aches and pains. I applied it for two nights and it was totally gone. I do not know whether they have these in the US. You can try to get them from the pharmacy. Well, it worked for me. Hope my suggestion could relieve some of your pain.

I know a couple people who are in this type of situation right now. Its a virus that has been going around, and cause back and nack pain for days even weeks. I would put a hot and cold compress on, just take it easy. If it doesnt clear up then go to the doctors.

I would be taking hot showers and let the water beat down on your lower back. I sleep on the floor when my back is bothering me. It really seems to help. A heating pad is great. Do have any Ben-Gay? That would be of help too. If you bathe Epson salts would help too. Good luck! Hope you have a joyous Christmas.
