I can't do eye to eye contact to people especially those who are just new or seldom seen. I'm not comfortable or confiident to look at them in their eyes:) but to my family I can do it. And my mom says, whenever you are doubtful to someone, and when u try to let them look in your eyes and fail to do it. It means their lying or guilty.

Not looking someone in the eye mostly means "not confident", go with it and try to raise your confidence! That way you will be happier, it is not as if their eyes will fire lasers, or anyhing.

If you do not want eye to eye contact don't. What your mom says is not true. The biggest liars and cheaters do it without even blinking with their eyes! It's proved you can not recognize a liar by signs and those signs people do say are specific for a liar are not at all (mostly you see them with people who speak the truth).

Really? Then I thought my mom was right, hehe. Well, some people are just too expert of the liarness. There's no signs of liars after all. We'll just be careful now.

Well, I have known people in my past who were great pathalogical liers as well who could look you right in the eye as well. So in reality, I feel it really depends on who the person is and how do you know if they are going to be someone you can really rely on and trust in, as you never really know someone until you decide to give them a chance.

This is something that people believe. A lot of people can't do it, autistic people and those with Asperger's syndrome have a lot of trouble doing it. Blind people don't do it either. My totally blind roommate knows that people want that eye contact, but since she can't see, she has trouble focusing on where people are. Today, at the other roommate's folks for Christmas, I had her pull her chair over to be part of the Christmas gift giving, I made sure she was at least more or less facing the room rather than having her back to it. I know I have trouble with that eye contact thing, and have discovered that I'm in the Asperger's syndrome spectrum with some of the online tests. Man... that explained VOLUMES of my problems!

You should consider practicing eye to eye contact with people. you need it especially on job interviews. Interviewers are impressed with confident applicants and eye to eye contact shows that you are confident and sure of what you are saying:)

It does happen to many people as we feel nervous to see into the eyes of unknown people, but there are some people who does not feel nervous and they look into other people eyes when they talk to them , even if it was their first time meeting or they are meeting the person for first time. If you can't do it, then avoid looking into the eyes of other people. Do what you feel comfortable rather then which makes you nervous or uncomfortable in such act.
