Do you wanna travel alone?

When you have a trip somewhere, would you prefer going together with your friends and your family.Or you desire to travel alone? For me,I'd like to go with my friends,we can talk and share ideas with each other while enjoying the view. But one of my friend feels like taking a solo trip. From her point of view, she can follow her own heart and do whatever she want to do. Can you share with me your experience or what's your choice?

I travel a lot (10 countries so far) and only once have I gotten to travel with someone. I would love to travel with a friend or family member because then you can share stories about all of your shared experiences and it is also a little less stressful. When I traveled with my brother, I actually slept a little in an airport and didn't have to worry about watching my stuff all the time. We got to actually laugh and complain about all the silly details...like an H1N1 cartoon, seats with absolutely no leg room, etc. The sad thing about traveling alone is that when you talk to friends and family, they are only partially interested in your journeys, and only for a short time. There is so much I want to share with them, but their eyes start to glaze over after a few minutes. That's why I am starting to journal some things because if I don't say them, eventually I will forget them. However, my aunts, uncles, and parents all went to China a few years ago to see my sister (and the sights) and they still talk about that trip all the time.

Hi Habibti,I feel the same way that you said when we finished from a journey and want to share with our friends or family memebers,it seems that they don't get very interested in it.I guess the reason is when they do not come with us together, they can not experience in person,so they just listen to it as a story or something like the introduction by a TV show, lol. But never mind, try more trips with your partners.Enjoy every moment on your journey, cheers.

since i live alone, I don't do much traveling, except for special days like birthdays,a nd the holidays. I don't go on vacations either, as I would rather stay at home, as my age, vacatgions just don't mean what they did when I was younger. I would rather stay home and come into mylot than travel great distances. Take care, and have a very good day.

Hi Rose,I'd like to share with you a true stories happened in China this year.A ould couple, whose ages are both over 60 but they are still young in mind, spent two month travelling through more than 70 townships in 16 European countries. That is amazing, what I am really saying that I don't think you are old now,coz in China, many old people who are more than 60 have no idea about computer, not to mention surfing in the internet. You are so trendy.I admire you,and if you get any chances to go on a trip, just have a try. Take good care of yourself, have more fun in mylot.

Taking trips with friends can be a really great experience but as your friend said , it would lack individualism . One can actually go on a long trip alone and that would serve as a source of self realization and you get to channelize your thoughts and come to know more about yourself . But in contrast , trips with friends are more on the lines of a party where you can enjoy , laugh and interact . But both ways traveling , give people a different way of approaching life and make their traveling time worthwhile .

I have tried traveling alone and the experience is pretty good. However, given the choice, I would still prefer to travel with someone else. Yes, we might not agree on the places to visit but at least, we have someone to look after our back. That in itself, is more important that the sights.

Hi Sophie, sometimes its hard to find a friend to go traveling with. I took the plunge and have moved from the Uk and been in Thailand for 4 months now and have a fabulous girlfriend who looks after me

The disvantage of travelling alone is that there is nobody watching your back and we may experience moments of loneliness. Have a nice day.

Hi sunshinesophie! well, it depends on what kind of travel you are going to do. I can travel alone if I need to think deeply and ponder things for my own that only need my sole attention. However, I can likewise travel with the group for some bonding and/or team building with peers. This is actually imperative and necessary if we want to enjoy ourselves and explore some things that beneficial for our additional personal growth. Travel for a vacation is the best avenue to utilize time for our own and foreseeing things that can be positively useful for us and to our journey in life.

To be independent does not imply to travel alone, you can be emotionally and physically independent even if you have companions accompanied by you. The word independent if we refer to travelling is the act of standing with your own feet without asking assistance to others in either way of personal motivation or environmental factors. Learning how to share and help others can be done also even if you're alone. Thus, my focal point here is, it's actually depends on your reason why you travel - it's maybe alone or within the group. Thank for your response.

One swallow doesn't make a summer,I do overgeneralize it,but as for the point of focus,it really does.Being alone on the journey, your ability of independence would be stronger than that when you are with a groups of friends. On the other side, when you go with your friends, you would pay more attention to sharing with your partners than that when you are alone, unless you can meet more friends during the journey and go together. But that will also mean that you are not alone any more. Thank you for classification.Have a nice day.

Travel is also a personal development tool no matter when we travel alone or with our partners, coz when we travel alone,we learn to be more independent, while traveling with friends or family members,we learn how to share and how to help each other.

I prefer to travel with friends and have fun together. But when stresed out, i prefer to travel alone or with family memebers. I only travelled a few times this year, mostly its with my family members and friends. I hardly travel alone because of the danger(?)of travelling alone in a foreign country with no one beside and maybe feeling lonely

Hi Sophie. It's nice to travel with someone where ever you go because you can share your experiences together but I have to say that most of my travels have been alone. I travelled around the USA alone and visited many places and I also went to Shanghai alone and also Vietnam. I'm quite used to travelling alone but it would have been nice to share those experiences with a friend or family member. I agree with your friend that you can follow your own heart and go where you want to, so there there is good in both ways. :-)

Hi Viet, I want to have a try being a solo traveler. It may be totally different from going with the friends .And we can meet more other travelers at hotels, bars even on the road. The budget and time is on our own,it seems also nice, right?

Yes, you are master of your own destiny that way! It can sometimes be lonely, I have to say but then again, I have met some lovely people around the world and feel very fortunate and have never regretted anything.

Traveling should be done in the company of other people. It is too dangerous to be venturing the world on your own. At least have someone you can share your fears and doubts while in strange or foreign places.

I prefer traveling alone. I am very independent and a free spirit. I like to do my own thing and I like my space and solitude. I make casual friends easily. However, I would love to have a friend meet me when I am on my vacations as long as I am allowed to continue to do my own thing and not feel that I must be with anyone.

It is easier to interact with local but also easier to interact with other tourists. That includes other singles as well as couples and persons traveling with friends or even groups. Or at least that is how it is for me.

I prefer traveling with friends as well for the same reasons. Because we share the same interests and ideas, it makes the traveling experience even more exciting. When I am with family, we always have to compromise on what things to do. It's easier with friends because they generally enjoy doing things similar to my interests. In general, I do love to travel. While I do enjoy traveling with friends, it might not be possible. For instance, they might have some obligation or do not have the funds to travel. There have been times I have traveled by myself, but I do not regret it. Even though I traveled alone, I learned about different things and gain experiences which I don't want to forget. So although it would have been more fun with friends, I generally enjoy traveling to new places.

When we travel alone, sometimes it may inspire us to think more about life during enjoying the natural spots, which enriches our experience and the same time makes us more mature.

Hi sunshinesophie, if you refer to long distance travel, i would prefer to travel together with family and love one, than friends. It feels more fun having my family members during the travel. We get to experience things together, we speak the same topic together, we get to joke with one another. However, like short visits to shopping malls to buy things, i prefer to go alone because i get to choose things easily and move around freely and faster. But sometimes having a partner for shopping helps too, especially when i can't decide which one to buy.

As for shopping,I love going alone.I can pick up things easily and shop around freely. But the same as you, sometimes I go shopping with my friends,we can exchange ideas of the items we choose with each othe,it would be easier to make a quick decision. Have a nice day,Joycseer.

Yes, I once travelled to a strange city alone, deep down in my heart ,i am a little bit afraid and scared, but it turned to be a very special experience. When you travel alone, you can decide everything by yourself, you need not to follow up other's references and habbits.

Hi,Echo. The same thing happened to me once when I went to Yiwu city on business alone, which is also an unfamiliar city to me.I felt lost when I stood at the window and watched the scenes out of the window, but I adjusted myself to the new environment soon.

I haven't had the time to go to some place alone, not that i want... i honestly do not think i would be able to pull that one off. i am not into travelling alone thingie... im not a big fan of adventures that way. and best travels are shared, with loved ones and a partner to go with you. he he i guess for me... i just want my travels shared with a loved one - memories with someone i can share it with, discuss it with. ;)

When I was a young person I traveled alone and really enjoyed this experience. I could choose to stay where I liked and could visit all the places which interested me. I was able to stay on budget by staying in dorms in youth hostels and backpacker. That would not be suitable for a couple or a family. I was 18 years old I worked in Finland as a children's nanny. I got a good wage working there. Afterwards I had enough money to travel around Europe by train. I stayed in dorms in youth hostels and sometimes in bunks on overnight trains. I even got as far as Hungary with a visitors visa. When I was 19 years old I went on trip to Tunisia on my own. My next trip alone was around the world for just over one year at 20 to 21 years old. I let out my cottage, got a working holiday visa and traveled with two different airlines. I loved seeing California, Hawaii, Fiji, Australia, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia. I traveled alone to Israel and Jordan in my mid twenties. I went to Western Australia when I was 28 years old. Then at age 29 years old I visited New Zealand and the Pacific Islands on my own. My best trip alone happened when I was 33 or 34 years years old. It was a trip to Mexico, Belize and Guatemala. I loved seeing the Mayan ruins, snorkeling with the wildlife and staying a few nights in a tree house. I went on an exciting cave adventure. Now I have my children I travel happily with them.

there are instances when i wanted to travel alone, to give time to myself and just be free. it helps me free myself of all the toxic things that have accumulated in my mind. but there are times that i also wanted to travel with a friend, FOR THE SIMPLE REASON THAT SOMETIMES IN LIFE, THERE ARE THINGS THAT ARE MORE ENJOYABLE WHEN SHARED WITH SOMEBODY ELSE.
