I am sitting on my couch and watching the local news. People had celebrated New Year's Eve so successful with their family. But some people continued to lit fire crackers from different places in the Philippines. In spite of the fire crackers' ban, they still do it. No wonder, there are still children got injured and seeing their faces of agony while they were been treated in the emergency of hospitals. How can we really going to convince them to stop? It seems this tradition cannot break this overnight. What do you think?

you know what, the government has had campaigns about this every year and people never listen. i guess they will only stop if they learned it the hard way. i just pity those who were hit by stray bullets because most of them are really innocent.

It is a tradition for Chinese people to set off fireworks to welcome the New Year. While the Spring Festival is the time for fireworks, it is also a time for fires. In fact, we set off fireworks for many festivals , and also many big occasions. We don't ban it here, like spring festival is not spring festival without fireworks. Yeah, like you said, there must be some accidents every year because of the fireworks.
I never set off fireworks, as I am not brave enough to do it since I was a child. I am a little afraid of it, but I do watch people set off them every year.
Thanks for sharing and hope the accidents will be less and less.

For some reason they have stopped doing this but I remember many years ago they would show a commercial about a child getting injured through playing around with fireworks, as a warning to other parents that it is not wise or safe for children to be around fireworks. There are stiff laws now that prevent shops from selling fireworks to underage children.

I think that sometimes nothing deters people until something tragic happens to them personally. Sad but true. I hope that the police are strict. We had afew going off here but not many and they aren't outlawed here.

In the US it seems all the 50 states has different laws on fireworks. What you can buy and what could be illegel to buy. People do get in trouble when they buy fireworks that are legal in some states but aren't in some. It is a weird thing! Here some places set up fireworks to celebrate the New Year. We also do this on the 4th of July to celebrate the USA's indepencence for Great Britian. I hear alot of people setting off fireworks that day and sometimes the following few days. It is very annoying especially when I am trying to sleep!
I don't know how the Phillipines can stop the fireworks problem. It seems no matter if some of it is band people will get it on the black market. That goes with alot of other stuff. If people want it they will get it. Even after people, even children, get hurt.

I think that when people break the law that they need to go to jail. Is not fair for kids to be injured just because of ignorant people. Maybe the police needs to be around these areas in order to enforce the law the way it should be.

What a lot of places are doing now is have a professional set up a spectacular show under their control to entertain the people. You get the excitement of the fireworks without the danger that might occur if you fired them yourself. These people know what they're doing.
