I had applied to this job in November (November 19th if I am correct). I jsut got a call back today.
I tried calling but so had left for the day so I will try tomorrow.
I had worked at this franchise for 8 years, but for a different owners.
I assumed since they just opened this store up, they had hired everyone and anyone, now they all left because the stress of the job. If you don't know what you are doing it is hard and drustrating.
People go in and out in this field, I use to work with new people on nights every week, somtimes me and another lady worked 4 months straight because noone would want to work there.

my hubby's brother and his wife just opened up a bulk barn and had their opening in mid December and have already let a couple of people go due to their attitudes, etc. i have heard that new businesses hire more people than necessary in case some of the people don't work out, they still have enough staff to carry on.

Is this in Hamilton? The Bulk Barn that was in Limeridge Mall was really handy for me because I worked across the aisle from it. But both that BB and my job are long gone.

Yes, so they don't get left hanging. I find in minimum wage positions you tend to get low end citizens, who have that attitudes. I use to work with a load of them, if I didn't need the money so badly I would skip over this job. When I worked at this job before (at a different location), they use to go through people left and right but it was bad management which caused this. But the day staff (i.e. we called them the old hags), they were the middle aged woman who had nothing to do but complain about everything and anyone.

silly mylot urgh!
Barrista work I could never do. Now I can do cashiering day and night, but barrista? I think It'd be much more challenging. Atleast with cashiering I can ignore people and focus just on the customer at hand. Not so much with barrista work where you sometimes have to make one or two drinks at once.

I worked at this franchise for 8 years, so this is all I know. I've applied to other jobs and nothing. So I broke down and applied to this store. I thought about cashiering, but no place would work around my other jobs. I am assuming they are either calling me for early mornings (5am - 9am), or midnights as those are the two shifts they go through a lot.

Yeah a lot of cashiering jobs you have to pretty much work for them and only them because if you aren't working, they'll probably call you in. Down here sometimes it can be just as bad as when waitresses ask you to take their shift with a lot of teenagers being in the business.
Which shift would you prefer? 5-9 or midnights?

You would get a lot of hours, I use to be part time working full time hours because people give up their shifts all the time. If you take their shifts they will continue asking you.
I would perfer 5am - 9am, so it's not really screwming up my entire body and life. But I need the money so I will take either. I applied part time nights so I dont think it will be as bad, as full time. Also, the 10am - 6am shift is a lot easier, you miss the morning rush.
I applied for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night so it;s not affecting me as much as the beginning of the week. But my seasonal job is coming back, so I will be going that in the afternoons.

Which job is this?
I know you'll take just about anything if it fits in your schedule, but will this be permanent full time, enabling you to get that loan or mortgage?

It's for Tim Hortons.
I applied and put down my availability is 5am - 9am any day, 3pm - 11pm Wedneday Thursday Friday and Saturday, or 10pm - 6am Wednesday Thursday and Friday.
I really will take any right now, to get a mortgage I have to have the steady income of 6 jobs to be accepted, with a cosigner. My SIL Dad (he does that for a living), said he would help me out, as my mortgage would only be $45,000 - $75,000 depending on my savings to put towards now they expect 25% down.
I am trying to save enough up to put a bigger down payment down.

You have 4 jobs? Heck, I'm lucky to have one at a time. And when I do have one part-time job, it seems that the next one to offer doesn't like to work my around my original schedule. Plus, I'm currently going to school full-time.
Just don't work yourself too thin. You won't even have any time at all to yourself and family.

Even part time would be awesome, and bring you in some money.
Most jobs wont work around my 4 jobs right now which is my problem. So I've been applying but getting nothing. I have been applying to nights, not that I want back on nights but I need the money and need to do this to step forward.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well i know many thoughts would have run after that call. It is better to call back tomorrow and ask the reason for the call they made u. May be they want to hire u again. It is pretty obvious for the people to leave an organization when they are not satisfied with their work place. So if they hire u then u should ask for the details about the job and then take your own decision.
What say?

that's good news for you.
i think with the difficulty of looking for work, people have to adjust and improve at the same time. that is what the challenge calls for or else, there will be no money to spend even for the basic necessities in life.

Call in tomorrow and I believe you will get the job as
you have vast experience in the same industry. I would
say they need you since they are starting it up, with
your experience in the same franchise, this will definitely
be a great asset to them. Bring your best smile and confidence
with you.
All the best and Happy new Year 2013!

I hope that you get the new job and it will be a place where you will enjoy and be able to work happily. Is the job really something that you want? Or is it just because the offered income was high?

Well, being able to work for eight years in the same company, is a credit to you!
However, from what I understand reading your discussion, it would seem that many people have wanted to leave this activity, while you, would easily continued.
Nowadays, even in my country (Italy), the job is a very difficult thing to get!
Hopefully with the advent of this new 2013, that things are improving!
Good luck!

I am glad they finally called you back about the job. I hate when I have to wait around for forever to get a call back about a job. I just left a job that I worked at for 2.5 years. I worked for the company before for 2.5 years back before my daughter was born. I guess 2.5 years is my limit with that company because I got just fed up with the place both times.

That's cool you finally got a call back. Sometimes it takes businesses longer to reach you about a job if they have alot of people applying for it. I hope your able to get a hold of them soon and good luck.

Wow usually in my mind I can not accept work at night,I think that the night job will be do harm to people's health, and according to your description this job is stressful as well,so I think that take this kind of job may be not a good choice.

That's great for you and the company. It is cost efficient for them they don't have to train people anyMore if you worked there already. Some companies do that. Absorbing all employees when there is a change in manageMEnt.

great for you that have called back. It's great chance for new experience in your life. Whatever the jobs, it's always the same. There are positives and negatives around us whatever is that.
We have to have great bigger heart for this, we have to fight for our life even in shifting jobs, just learned how this job gonna worked and the skilled that we can learned as long as we can.
I was shifting too, it's kind a operator in IT field for national banking that have more 1000 branches, i learned a lot from this, how the environment, how shifting worked, managed lots of people, learned to think well and more organize and others.
