I want to write novels and poems again

In the past I have written poems and novels, but there has been a long period where I haven't written much. I write emails to my friends, and I also have diary where I sometimes write about my thoughts and my experiences, but I haven't written a poem or a novel for many months.
I would like to get started again, and today I borrowed some books about writing techniques and some collections of poems written by other people. I hope that some of those books can inspire me and help me get started again.
In the past when my grandmother was alive I often wrote in her kitchen. I drank lots of coffee and listened to music on the radio. I don't know why that place really inspired me, but it was it very easy for me to write in that kitchen. I have never really found a new place to write, but I often like to write outside my home for instance in park or in a coffeeshop.
Do you have a favourite place in your house or outside your home where you like to write? What is the best way to get started after a long break?

Hi friend, good to know that you are interested in writing poems and novels again after a break. My hearty wishes for it. Previously during my college days i am interested in writing poems and wrote a lot of poems in my mother tongue, but now i am writing articles in various site. I like nature and write poems about nature, i like the calm place with natural surrounding to do my writing work.

I am happy to hear that you have written poems as well. I used to write a lot of poems when I was younger. I still keep some of the poems that I wrote at that time, and I hope that I will be able to add new poems after a long break. Recently I have been busy with work and other kinds of activities and I don't have a lot of free time to write poems or stories, but I would still like to spend more time on those things. I hope that I can get back to my old creativity because it used to be quite easy for me to write new things.

I have finished some of the novels and poems that I have written in the past, but I also have a lot of unfinished things. I think that it is a challenge to find the right place to write, but I am still experimenting and I hope that I will find a place where I can get in touch with my creativity again. I like to write outside my home because I find the background noise inspiring. Sometimes I write in a cofffeshop or in a park (only in the summer, right now it far too cold) I am going to continue the experiments and I will let you know if I succeed

I think the best way to get started after a long break is to just sit and free-write. Even if you don't like what you've written and don't use it anywhere, it's still helpful for you to get the creative juices flowing again.
I don't really have a favorite place to write... I tend to write just everywhere. I do like to get things quiet and calm, have an organized space where most everything's done. I haven't done too much writing outside of my home, but I get nervous if I'm writing out in public. Like, people are going to ask what I'm writing or read over my shoulder. I can't write with people reading over my shoulder. It's probably an irrational fear of mine, but there it is.

Free-writing sounds like a good idea. I guess that first of all I should focus on writing instead of focusing on the quality. That is my problem at the moment, and it bothers me that I can't write like I did in the past, but I hope that it will come back once I get started. I often write outside my home, and sometimes the background noise from other people help me find new inspiration, but I am not sure why.
I also find it hard to write when people reading over my shoulder, and sometimes I attract attention when I am writing. I don't like that, but it is still happens sometimes. Some time ago one guy kept talking to me and asked me what I was writing and if I was famous author Another guy kept on joking and flirting with me and asked me if I was writing him a love letter! I just wanted to finish my story, but there were many disstractions and I had to go somewhere else.

I really do hope that you are able to start writing poems and novels again. I use to write in a journal a lot. I have been so slacking on that for some years though. Now I have decided to start again. I hope though that I will keep up with it. It's something that I enjoy doing it just seems as if there are so many problems but I guess I have to write about those two since it is my life. Coffeeshops are great for things like that. Recently I started setting a weekend day aside with a few hours for myself. And I think this coming Sunday I'm going to go to a coffee shop and read or write in my journal.

I think that it is good idea to spend part of your weekend on reading and writing. Maybe I should also do something like that. Sometimes I am too busy with work and voluntary work and I keep postponing the stories that I want to write. I like to write in a coffeeshop, but I haven't been to coffeeshop since I got back from my trip. I am thinking about going to coffeeshop this Friday and I will bring my book and the notebook that I use when I write down ideas for stories and other things while I am away from my home. I also look forward to reading the books about writing techniqes that I borrowed at the library, some of them look quite interesting and I think that they might inspire me to get started again,

That would be great if you are able to start writing your novels like you want to. I understand what you mean about being busy. We often take care of ourselves last. I think we need to take a little time for ourselves. It is recommended that we set aside thirty minutes a day for ourselves.

It is interesting that you write stories for children. I have never tried that, but I have thought about trying it. There were certain books from my own childhood that I really liked and today I think that it could be interesting to write stories from a similar genre. Which agegroup do you focus on when you write stories for children? Small children or older children?

This is a hobby I always love to do but has not done so for years. I guess as age catches up, it is time to start again. Writing novels and poems can be very inspiring for us personally, not just for the readers.

I have heard about Triond and some of the my friends use that site, but I didn't join it myself, maybe I should have a look at it. I don't know bubblenews, what kind of site is that? A coffeeshop with internet connection sounds great. I like to write in a coffeeshop where I can enjoy a cup of coffee while I work. I usually drinks lots of coffee while I work on my novels or poems. I haven't written poems or novels for a long time, but I hope to get started again. I recently borrowed some poetry books written by other people and they might inspire me

If I need to write something, I prefer staying in my room to write it. When I was a student,I wanted to write novels, but each time after I thinking the framework of the story, I gave up. And I always got inspiration from a movie or TV show. I suggest you can watch news, cause real life is more wonderful than the pure fake story just come from heart. Good luck!

Good luck to your goals. Writing is not an easy task but for those who love it, they will persevere to finish one novel or poems as it is a part of their dreams. I love writing too and I understand that each writer needs an inspiration to be able to make good stories or articles

It's a situation I'm going through now. I've only completed one novel, but had started loads, and for a while, I haven't written anything. Now I actually have a story in my mind, but it's so hard to get back into the writing process.
What I'm doing now is that I kind of sketched the story, and in a notebook, I wrote each of the main characters' names on a page and written down everything I "know" about them... like their appearance, their personalities and little habits and stuff like that.

I think that it is good idea to write information about the different characters in the story I usually do the same thing when I write a story. I like to write down some keywords about each character because that information makes it easier to keep track of the details. Like you I find it hard to get back into the writing process. I used to a write a lot. I have never written a novel, but I have written short stories and poems in the past. I want to get started again and at the moment I am trying to find ways that could make it easier for me to get back to my old creativity.

I do think that you need to get into the mood again in order to re-start the writing process. Your prefered atmosphere seems to be one connected with being relaxed and quiet, so perhaps you could start by choosing such a place and also making time everyday to just sit there with a pencil, a notebook and your thoughts.
Writing is a little like rolling a snowball, it starts small and it expands as you go along. Once you get started the words will come. Perhaps you could start with improving the type of entries you make in your diary and go on from there.
In my experience poems invent and grow themselves, I rarely sit down to write a poem unless it has already begun to form in my mind. Poems always take me by surprise but perhaps it is different with you.
I have never aspired to write a novel, but if you have the gift of story telling then another way you could encourage yourself towards writing a novel is to invent a few characters and write about them. They may give you the inspiration for a novel. Best of luck.

I recommend you that the library is also a quiet place for writing.I used to write a lot as well. But when I tend to be busy with the work,I seldom write it.Your post inspires me to write again. You can go travelling somewhere or have a good talk with your besties.I hope you can get more inspiration when you start writing.Wish you success.Have a nice day.

Thank you I wish you the same and I think that it is great you feel inspired to write again. I borrowed some books about creative writing at the library and some of them seem quite interesting and I think that I could learn something new from them and maybe I will find new inspiration that way. I also borrowed some collections of poems written by other people. I think that might inspire as well, but I didn't really start reading them yet. One of the other responses in this discussion inspired me write without worrying about the result. Not because I want to keep the things that I write, but simply to get started.

Yes. Great Topic. I to have written a couple of small short stories when i was in middle school. I have written poems as well.
I would recomend going over old poems or other writings in order to see where your mind was and how it has grown. Write about what your going through.
Begin in your mind. Begin by thinking of a place that you feel brings some sort of meaning. For example i think of a dream i once had which brings all emotions out and therefore i can write a sad, mad, mysterious, loving poem or story.
I would write when you feel the urge to write when something meaningful comes to mind, quixkly write it down (have a notepad nxt 2 u) and when you want to relax re read your notes and begin to scibble meanings and feelings. Soon you will begin to write as you did before
