or has given this person a sign, how do you tell if they are speaking the truth? Does it matter if it's a preacher, your mom or the guy who sits in the back at McDonald's all the time? Do you think people get direct signs or words from God today? Please explain why or why not?

Yes, I do believe God speaks to individuals and that when you hear God speak it is unmistakable. It matters not who you are, by earthly measure. How can you know someone is speaking true? Check there words against scripture.
Jesus warns of those that come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. And how shall you know them but by the fruit they bear for a good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

Absolutely, Urban. I would add that someone to whom God spoke in this way would not, if passing it on to others, claim divine authority for it. If I believe God spoke to me outside of Scripture, that is for me alone to partly believe it. We are not called to be tinpot popes.
When the Scottish Covenanter, Donald Cargill told the person who arrested him that God would requite him, and probably in the same place, he added "if I am not mistaken". In the event, Cargill was not mistaken.

If you mean it is for the person concerned to believe, then I agree and that is a good point.

I believe God speaks to us through the Bible, sometimes through circumstances, sometimes through ideas, sometimes through other people. God can speak to us however he wants. He used a donkey to speak to Balaam in the Old Testament. I believe some people get direct messages from God. That being said, I think it is wise to ask God for confirmation if we believe he has spoken to us in some way. If you really want to do his will he will confirm it so you can be sure the message is from him.
I believe God gives messages because the Holy Spirit is with all believers and the Holy Spirit speaks at times so God can lead us in one direction or another. In the New Testament, Acts 16:6 the Apostle Paul was forbidden by the Spirit to do something.

I agree with you. I believe God speaks to us not directly like old testament. But god speaks to us through anything around of us like our heart, our mind, bible, environment, His earth. If somebody claim that got massage from GOD directly, then I will don't believe it, because now GOD no speak to us directly.

If you know God's Word - and I mean, the Bible - it wouldn't be too hard to figure out if someone says they've heard from God. You just compare what's in It to what you heard. Helps a lot too if you have your own relationship with God through Christ. If you have a copy of a Bible, I suggest you look up John chapter 10 versus 1-15. That should help.

We cannot know for sure what God is doing or not doing. It's always best when we get our own indications of God's guidance in our own lives. So, communicate with God in prayer daily. Read the Bible daily. Apply what you learn and see what happens.

I don't know if there is someone in our generation who literally hears from God or they hear his audible voice. I read Christian books and people say God says to them these things but it seems they did not actually hear it. They look for signs or they feel something strange in their spirit or they sense a message in their dreams.

Hi blummus.
Well I might not be the qualified person to say this. But I think it can be better explained by a psychiatrist. One thing is for sure that our mind is a mysterious being on its own. The way it reacts to different situations is very mysterious and surprising.. So I believe it is the work of mind and a kind of hallucination. I might be wrong. But logic and science supports my opinion. Anyways have a nice day ...

Hi urban.
So you mean to say that what we call logic and reasoning is also a trick of mind. If that is the case, then we all are already living in a delusional world. I would have wished to actually accept that but I don't see it possible. Anyways have a nice day ...

You should not care whether they speak the truth or not. Are you looking to Believe or discover the truth for yourself? One should never look to be convinced. One should strive to discover for themselves. No one really needs a middle man between them and God. If you discover for yourself, you will know. One can never know with mere beliefs.

First of all if someone says that God spoke to them, I would want to know what was said to them, as if it didn't come from the bible, then I just won't believe it. People have to understand, that the dvil talks to people too, but we all know that when he talks, it isn't from the bible. We all have to be so careful, in believing anything that was said, unless we check it from the bible first. Take care, and have a great day.

Its hard to believe. My mom who is very religious would also tell us about a dream sign and there is one story she told me. The story about a girl who does not want to wear dress. My mom always telling me about womens generation that women wear pants and she told me that it offends Jesus Christ. I don't know. She said, it came from a visionary, something like that. Jesus Christ chose the traditional way like women wearing dress and wearing long vail on a traditional church.
She told me the story that a girl does not want to wear dress. She wants to wear pants. After she went from church, her mother saw two horns literally on her daughter's head! Now I don't know if she invented those stories or she easily believe those stories from other person. Its like she's trying to say that women that wear pants is a sin. Well, there are lots of visionary in a whole world especially Catholics.
Is this a direct sign from God or what? If it is true, well, half of women in the whole world who wear pants would go to hell literally! Why is it always women huh?

I can't explain it, because I'm not a psychic, nor do I have a proof for God's existence or non-existence, but with my present knowledge, I think people who say this aren't exactly getting signals from God, but have some mental problems... I mainly say this because I am agnostic, and I don't really believe in God per se as it exists in the Christian religion's beliefs.

Hi,
I have met two persons in my life who have such power. One is the girl who is the student of my wife. She is 17 years old and she says that she always see the old person who always support her and guide her. She always makes us alert when there is some danger. Everything she has predicted about my son come true. She is very kind and love my family very much. She is from very poor family. Her parents don't care about her. She work for whole day alone in her house. But she is fond of education and we help her for everything. She takes care of my wife as she is disabled. But that girl makes me to believe in God. One of my friends also have some power like this. But he doesn't have the experience of talking to anyone like that girl. Really she is very great. She always give some solutions to our problems. I can't understand and surprised by this things. Sometimes I get confused by these things. Because I don't have experience of existence of God.
