Going to a Place I've Never Been Before... Alone!

This is actually a continuation of a story I wrote earlier. I mentioned there why I ended up travelling that night (http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2739201.aspx). I prepared myself and everything that I will need for my trip, got a taxi and headed to the bus terminal. I felt a little excitement but was also nervous knowing that I am about to go to a place I've never visited before and that I know no one in that place except for my two contact persons. These people were very busy so it was impossible for us to exchange messages all the time, so they just gave me bus names, bus terminals, places where to stop, and a sketch of the place. Aside from that, I only had a very limited budget with me so if I happen to miss any of their instructions then it's gonna be a big problem in my part. What I did was pray and asked God's guidance and protection. At exactly 12:00 midnight, my first bus started moving and according to my contact persons it will take 6 hours (5 hours if there is no traffic) before I will reach my first stop, and from there, I will transfer to my second bus. Prior to that, my contact persons warned me not to trust anybody but the ONLY the bus drivers or bus conductors and the guards. During the trip I was so sleepy but I tried not to fall asleep because I was so scared that I might miss my first bus stop. At 5:00 AM, I reached my first destination. So I had to find my next bus terminal. I immediately got in the bus and at about 3 minutes after I got in, we started moving again. I was already tired that time but I can't do anything because I didn't want to be late. Again, I tried my very best not to sleep because I might miss my final destination. Then, new passengers came, one sat beside me and the other two sat right at the back of my seat. I heard them talking and my ear caught that they're going to drop at the same place where I was supposed to stop. This gave me an idea that I was already "safe" thinking that if these guys will stop then it would mean that I would also stop. Because of this thought, I became a little bit comfortable and I felt a bit relaxed. I was enjoying some views along the way while trying to fight my sleepiness but then suddenly... I slept! When I woke up, I was so startled when I noticed that a different person was sitting beside me. I looked at my back but these guys that were supposed to be my 'guide' were already gone! I was so disappointed with myself because I slept. I tried to reach out my contact persons by calling them and sending them text messages but they were not answering back. I mentioned some landmarks that I was seeing along the way and asked them if I was really lost already so that I could at least stop the bus and look for some possible rides and go back. Maybe they were already busy preparing for work because it was about 7:00 AM that is why they were not able to answer me back. My last option was to ask the bus conductor but before I was going to do that, I received a call from one of my contacts and she told me that I was not lost and that I was still probably 10 kilometers away before I will reach my final destination. I felt sooo much relief that time, I sat back and just thank God. I finally reached the place at about 7:30 AM so I waited for them at the bus stop to fetch me. They were only able to meet me at 8:00 AM. My original plan was to get my main purpose from them and then go back right after in order for me to catch up with my teacher. I told them that but they insisted that maybe we can have a coffee in a nearby coffee shop, I didn't want to offend them so I just said yes. So when we got there, we shared some stories, news, and laughs. And also they paid everything, so nice of them! Suddenly we realized that we spent too much time already. I had to start my trip back again, and as for them, they were already so late in their works. They are both resident veterinarians in two different veterinary clinics in that area so they were really needed there. I thanked them and we parted ways. It was already 9:30 AM when my first bus started. Along the way, I could't sleep so I just stared outside the bus window. Nothing really wierd happened that time except for that I saw a cockroach inside the bus. There were also some flies and mosquitoes inside! Weren't they cleaning it? That, I really don't know. I dropped somewhere hoping to get my second bus but I noticed I stopped again in the wrong bus terminal so I had to get a taxi and find the right one. In my second bus going back, I already felt comfortable knowing that I was already heading home so I was able to have some sleep in the bus. At last I reached my place at 7:00 or 7:30 PM and so I immediately called my teacher and told her that I already have my specimen and is ready for submission. She said I will just submit it the next day early in the morning, maybe she noticed that I was already exhausted. I then went home directly. I learned a lot of lessons from this experience I just had. I went so detailed in some parts of my story even though for you maybe has no sense at all but for me it has made an impact. I tried to make my story attractive but I think it's not enough. But if you read the whole story and were able ti understand then thank you very much! Haha!

Haha! What is going on guys? Mavic: Good for you. There are people who prefer to travel alone but I'm definitely not one of them, especially to new places. I travel alone if that's the only choice and/or if I get used to that place already. Beautiful and sexy huh! Okay! I believe you are one hundred percent woman. Hahaha Peace! Deazil: Don't be rude! Haha

Firstly congratulations on stepping outside your comfort zone and going somewhere new on your own, that is courageous and adventurous, you can learn so much from your experience. The first time I travelled alone to a foreign country was back in 2007, I had never been to Rhodes and I had never been on a plane on my own. Now I don't like flying, but I made myself do it, made myself get on a plane unaided, it was quite scary and going to a country I had never been before, it was one big adventure. I am glad I did it and I learnt a lot just by travelling alone. Thank you for sharing your story, it was enjoyable to read!

Hello there! How are you doing? Thank you. It's really good to do something alone sometimes because it is here where we learn new many things. We are forced to trust in our own instincts, and abilities maybe. It's just amazing and unbelievable to think after that we were able to do things which we did not expect that we could do alone. I've never been to other countries, and even never experienced to get on a plane but this would be a very exciting experience for sure. Thank you fro reading my story. I just hope you did not get yourself confused in any part of it. I tried my best! Haha!

I understand that finally getting what you needed for class was part of an adventure. You can feel proud of yourself for accomplishing that goal. It is good you got back safely, I was a little afraid you were going to say someone tried to rob you. It is good you have friends who will help you with what you need for your class.

Yes, I would consider this as an adventure and now that the problem is solved, I feel a bit proud of myself because I was able to do it, with the help of some people of course. Before I started my travel, my contacts warned me to be careful with my money an things because there were robbers and snatchers even in the bus so I always had this in my mind. My instincts were I think turned on and alerted during that time so that helped me.

You should be strong in all steps you want to take up. Sometimes, it happen to us to travel or walk a way that we never did before. I am adventurous person so I am not afraid to travel anywhere. I traveled from Davao to Manila. If you are in my shoe at that time maybe you won't pursue your plan. I don't have any friends within Manila that time, the person I want to meet live in Baliuag, Bulacan, 1 hour travel aircon bus from Cubao. She cannot meet me in the terminal because I was arrived at 4am in the morning. I travel 3 days and 2 night in a bus. I was worried but I trust myself and trust God above all. I reached in Manila safe and I meet the person at 1pm. But before that trip I already traveled to all cities in Mindanao and some cities in Visayas alone.

Hello! Thank you for responding here. You are right, we should be strong and trust our self and our instincts in times like these. There are things we can really do when we are very desperate. Committing everything to God is also very important.

You are so brave to do it all alone, thanks to your contact persons, they are really helpful. Still even though I have some contact persons, I will not do it like you, in fact, I never go to a new place by myself, I have no idea about directions, so it will be very difficult for me to find my way. You really have a special experience, again, you are brave.

Hi! Thank you so much. I also never thought I would be able to do such thing. It's just that I was so desperate during that time and that was my only chance so I just risked it all. My contact persons really helped me a lot not only by giving me that specimen but also by giving me the instructions despite of their very busy schedule. Really God is good and I thank Him for this experience.

I did read the whole thing, and I pretty much understood the whole trip. I'm not sure exactly what kind of specimen you were picking up, maybe in the other discussion... I can understand being worried while traveling, but I'd probably have found a way to sleep that first leg of the trip... I'm too old to stay awake that long these days.

The good thing about all these is that you came home safe and that you were able to submit your requirements in time.

Yes, I thank God that I came back home safe. My specimen was actually late already but I just asked some considerations from my teacher. I'll never ever forget this experience I guess.
