Fountain, bowl or something else? What's your cat's preference to drink out of or from? My cat only drinks from a bowl. She won't drink very much though, so I hope she gets plenty of liquid from her wet food. I am hoping that she isn't dehydrated, she looks fine in that way and the vet just examined her the other week and never said anything about dehydrating so I guess she is OK. Still I worry. I have seen cats drink from the faucet and such but I have never owned any cat that would do that.

My cat rarely drinks from her bowl, instead she climbs in the sink and "digs" with her paws until someone fills it up for her. Sometimes she rubs her face on the faucet, or when I open the bathroom door she charges in with such mad determination that I know she wants a drink from the sink. I've tried to ween her off of this, but it's proven difficult. Darn picky cat.

Wow he seems like he is really thirsty--or else he really likes that water you give him. Dogs seem to drink more than cats for some reason. My older cat would drink alot but then again he had some health issues as he got to be towards 20 year old.

Awe, he loves water. He is trying to play with it to keep cool. Does he like having little baths in the hot summer months?

I'm not sure which it is. I know in the summer he will play with water in his bowl.

Ahh, so funny that you posted this! We have 4 indoor cats, and they all have different drinking preferences, of course, because they are felines. Dory would only drink from the sink, the trickling water. And you need to leave the water running in order for her to drink. Bitty would only drink out of a bowl, and not the same bowl as the dog. Nemo wanted milk from a small dish, and Meeca would only drink from a cup. Yes, a cup. On the side of a sink. We finally bought a fountain to take care of the running water problem, since we would forget and leave the water running, and flood the bathroom or just plain run water all day. We succeeded in getting 3 of the cats and dog to drink from the fountain. Our oldest prefers a fancy cup on the sink, refilled multiple times a day. :)

Yes cats have their own personalities and preferences just like people do. They also snore, have the same illnesses, can get depressed, and so forth just like people! Do you leave the water on for her all day? That would seem like alot of water to use, LOL. No, they should drink out of the same bowl as the dog, they do know dog's breathe when they smell it in the bowl haha. Nemo drinking milk only is cute, and a cup for Meeca, haha! They are very different I agree! Thanks for sharing these cute stories. Oh I read you got a fountain and I'm glad you did cause the water running all day would be costly lol. I'm glad they can all drink from there except the oldest. He is probably set in his ways like people get when they're older.

We use to have a foutain but it got so expensice with hydro, and the filters. But they would dirnk out of it, and it curculated the water. They have a bowl now, they arn't really picky. I like giving mine bottled water, as our tap water is so bad, adn filled with chemicals. My Motehr on the other hand doesnt see that her cats health problems are fro this. Pacthes will get in the bathtub and play/ drink from the tap. I was brushing my teeth the other day, and while I'm spitting she walked through the sink so it landed on her head.

Yep, that sounds rather expensive to me too. Glad you got rid of it then cause you're saving money now. The water here is kind of bad too at times, but bottled water is bad too in ways. I should give my cat some of my boiled drinking water that I use. LOL at spitting and it landing on Patches head. Cats are such wonderful but silly creatures sometimes.

You should taste our water here, pur diarrhea if you drink it. But the town wont do anythign about it, and we pay for it. Even boiling it, tastes like a swimming pool. Now if I was living on my own, and wasn;t home all the time especially during the summer I may consider the countain, or even a stainless steel bowl with loads of ice.

They should have a spring water well installed if it is that bad. Seriously. That is what a town had where my Grandmother lived. We used to get it there too cause we were there so much as well (it's closeby) and borrow her key to get it. Then after awhile it didn't work anymore and they never fixed it, so couldn't get it even the people that lived there. It was great while it lasted--like everything else. Nothing good lasts forever it seems. That is terrible if you boil it it still is so nasty. Wow. I would be always buying bottled but then again I have heard bad things about bottled water as well.

In my country, a simple bowl filled with water is fine for the animals. Fountain-type is not common here. Though it would be nice if they have one.

Yes that is plenty and all they really need. Some of us though when we can treat them with fountains and other kinds of water systems but all they really need is the water so it doesn't matter.

If the vet is saying that the kitty is okay and not dehydrating than why are you getting so much worried. I think you shoud not worry too much and let the kitty take its supper in any way it is taking comfortably. If its showing some serious signs of dehydration than you should consult the vet.

Dunno, cause I know some vets do not always tell you the truth.

We keep a small bucket of water in the bathtub (the bathroom is also where their food and litterbox are) and fill it with fresh water a couple of times a day. They prefer the fresh water. Our tub faucet used to drip pretty consistently and they really liked that, but our water bill sure didn't! We fixed the leak so now we do the thing with the bucket.

My cats preferred the little decorative water fountain. We were constantly having to clean it because the cat hair would block the filter and the water wouldn't flow. Also, the water and fountain bowl became slimy quickly because of it. So, we bought one of those water fountains just for pets. That was a major headache as well. Two of my cats like to drink from the faucet. It's not a good habit because one can forget to turn the faucet off and then the water bill is sky high. I've wondered about getting one of the little water feeders like goes in a hamster cage. They make the little nozzles that go on your faucet for pets but wouldn't that still run the water bill up? In the meantime, in spite of thier displeasure, they are drinking from bowls. And, so you know, in cases of dehydration, as with people, you can tell by the elasticity of the skin. You should look up the symptoms so you know.
