I have seen people who are so devoted to good health they can just eat five potato chips or two french fries. How do they do it as either they do not really like them anyway or are fibbing to me.
lol. I had a corndog with french fries, me a diabetic so I carefuly scraped off that that yucky tasting cormneal covering which I knew would shooot up my blood sugar but then I tried to only eat five french fries . I ask fellow my lotters how can I only eat four?
Am i alone in eating the first one leads to the secon d and leads to all on my plate. I knows that salt and fat are not good for me.
so why am I just the only one who cannot stop at four? your take felolw my hlotters.

Hi Hatley,
I don't subscribe at all to this health food craze; I eat what I want when I want, so give me a Bacon Cheeseburger with those fries and I'll have regular soda, no diet for me.
I have seen many ways people can die, and I am not just talking about minor things; I have seen people with their spine crushed in half from a roll-over MVA, and I have seen people with their head hanging on only by a couple of ligaments after they hit a tree skiing. I for one don't want to be on an autopsy table in similar condition, and have the pathologist comment that I had clean arteries. A lot of good that will do!
Don't kill yourself with food, but don't be afraid of it either. If you have a medical condition that requires you to limit or eliminate certain foods that's one thing, but to eliminate food because it may be bad for you? Life is hazardous to your health!

no jjzone no I am a brittle diabetic which means I must really try to control my blood sugar as near normal as possible. Those fries are delicious and also full of salt and fat which is not good for anyone but even more so for diabetics ,. that is why I wish I could just eat three or four french fries and not eat them all. they are not healthy for a diabetic. But I came out okay with a blood s ugar of 118 which is normal for t wo hours after a m eal.

hi bunnybon I know the feeling. If you have it it shou d show up in blood tests b ut I think you need to have an A 1c test , blood test as it will show how much sugar is in your blood over
several months to three months.I need to have that done for my self as its been put off too long.I ideally must see my doctor every three months to be checked on how I am doing with my diabetes.one good thing is I can eat all the various veggies and most fruits too and lean meat but somethings really are not too good for me.
hi pointlessQuestions I really do need to get back in gear and hav e my bloodwork done and see my doctor every three months.

Hi Bun. If you have diabetes a blood test will show it. If you are concerned, ask your doc for an AC1 test. It's a type of hemoglobin test that registers your monthly use of glucose. Glucose binds to hgb (hemoglobin) over time. It can give your doctor a clear picture of whether you have an issue with diabetes.

I know the feeling.
There are just some foods you can not stop eating. French fries are one, certain kinds of fried chips are others! Salt is so addictive that is why we keep eating and eating. As a diabetic it must be even harder not to have those habits.

hi ccho I was so surprised to check my blood sugar after i ate allthose french fries at elevfen and it was only 117.but still I
really do not think that they are good for me because of all the salt and oil too.It really is hard but having a good glucometer and checking your blood sugar four times a day helps you to see what foods are okay and what do raise your blood sugar.

That's so interesting! If you have time, I would like to know some food types that you have noticed that they increase your blood sugar levels! It will be a good advice for all of us who want to eat healthy and it will be very interesting since you have experience!

I have no idea about blood count, I assume that is good from how you said that. I'm glad it did not mess you up too bad for eating them. I'm hypoglycemic or was... when I was younger which meant I needed to eat like every 2 hours. I never had to watch blood count because it was only really a manner of eating before it dropped rather than it getting too low. Not much of a factor for me to watch that number.

hi Ulan I think I must not have mentioned I live in a retirement center so I am at the mercy of the kitchen staff as to what they feel we should eat. on the weekends the food is as bad as that in a fast food joint hot dogs with potato c hips or french fries. They do not salt the fries so that is good. I was not going to eat all of them as they often spike my blood sugar but after eating a couple I was done for,.
But one good thing is I did not eat the bread and omitted the dessert.so when I checked my blood sugar it was only 119 which is excellent. So I am happy again.

Hi MaylaJay and deazil me too as I used to do that and probably that led me to have diabetes finally lol. Bu t really it was all the weight I had gained in my mid fifties that caused me to get type2 diabetes. That extra fat cells interfere with the progress of insulin in pushing in the sugar into our muscle cells thus dumping it into our blood stream instead.

I have two aunts and a cousin (who I've lived with) that have diabetes. I couldn't tell you what type they have, but I am usually cautious because of that. We think it may run in our family. I have to go get tests about every two years to see if I have it. But when it comes to fries, I eat like crazy!

However today I did but my blood sugar was only 119 so I guess i am doing okay.

I too can't understand how people can eat only four chips or fries. I know that if I eat one then it'll lead to my plate being empty or leaving me a empty bag. It just taste so good, I can't just eat one. Unless I grab an order of small fries and a small bag of chips. That could stop me from eating so many.

The French need to be fried for becoming the reason for so many people's obesity and ill health..lol
Never mind...it is difficult for me too...
myLot keeps me off eating...if I sit in front of television...I eat non-stop.
I need my both hands working...I suppose. I am now trying new method...I take only a small helping ...very small helping...just two pieces of some savory...and sit in front of tv...
So when it gets over, I have to get up from my seat and walk towards the kitchen for more...a few times later, a little water, and suddenly, I dont want it anymore.
I dont know if it has helped me much...but yes, I do feel the difference. This may be because I am lazy...

I did omit bread and dessert then ate all the fries so when I checked my blood sugar it was only 119 so am a happy camper now.

I'm afraid there's no music in this section of the operetta, it's a spoken monologue. But Frosch says something like "They say that after a glass of slivovitz you are a new man" and drinks down the glass. He then looks at the bottle and says "Now why shouldn't the new man also have a glass of slivovitz?" ... ETCETERA!

Oh wow. I got the best response. LOL Thank you. I didn't expect that. After spending a year of eating very little and poorly I started noticing how tired I was becoming. I finally started turning my diet around only since September of last year. I'm doing much better now and even though the lack of eating made me lose 4 inches in the waist I haven't gained it back. I can go out and order a burger while turning up my nose at the fries. All I think about is all that deep fry oil and salt. Since salt is known to retain body in the water and I have a hard time with that issue, it's the reason I don't eat it.

I can do it, but if just rather not have fries at all. I don't want to wear the fat that 4 French fries will out in me. I just try to make a better choice for myself. Being morbidly obese all of my life, in successfully changing my tastes. My daughter has lost 48 pounds, I think. She eats just about a third of what she puts on her plate. She left a little less than half if her pizza. The old me would have eaten what she didn't eat. She can still eat pizza and fries and still lose weight, but I like them too much.
I like Pringles potato chips. I buy the single serving packs. I like that so that I don't have to worry about eating the whole can. The old me would eat a whole tube of them.

The only way I would be able to stop at 4 is if that is all I was served or the fries were not good, and believe me most people can not make fries. I would love to get into making our own fries at home. We have in the past but just recently bought out own fry cutter, just need to get it out and use it.

I can't help you with that! Lol
I rarely set limits to how many fries/chips/snacs etc I am going to eat. I am trying to follow a healthy diet and have proper meals without many fattening food. For example I rarely fry my food, so I avoid chips and fried steak. Most of the times I cook in the oven, it is much healthier. But when I am eating out I will definitely get some fries and eat all of them! This way I don't feel that this food choice is forbidden, I am just not eating it regularly. Honestly, I could never
stop at four fries!

hi besweet that is a good idea not to completely do away with favorite foods just have some occasionally so you do not overdo
and do not feel thwarted either.this is also recommended for diabetics too so we do not just fixate on something and
go out and really overdo it.

I am not very familiar with the diet for diabetics actually! Concerning the self-control, it's all in the mind in my opinion! If you see the plate full of fries and you think that you can't eat more than 4, you will envy them the whole time they are there! But if you take them out of your diet by choice and eat them in some occasions that you choose without thinking that you should stop because it is forbidden, it is easier. I tend to accept things better if I make them my choice and not something that I have to do.

Hi Hatley, french fries is one of my unhealthy food as well I know eating in excess over the amount allowed would cause harm to health. I just can't help finish them would always regret eating in this way. I wonder if without salt it still tastes yummy.

Yeah, I know french fries can't be prepared without oil. If without salt it's not that tasty as well. And mashed potato is that good in taste compared to french fries I think it's no harm to take a little to fulfill our appetite. It would no joy totally to live refrain from taking our favorite food eh... My cholesterol is a bit high and advised to take less oil and salt. Anyway it's wise to take care of our health when eating our favorite food. Having health we yet can enjoy eating although it's only little

Oh these people who only eat five potato chips or two french fries shouldn't have bought them to begin with. What a waste. I never get the combo meal. Have been going to McDonald's again lately because they have McRib again. I love that sandwich so I will go eat it. I don't like many french fries. I only like Wendys and most of the mom and paps places. Those I can eat quite a few of but the other places are discuting.

hi celticEagle wish life here in Gold Crest was like out in the
realworld where you can opt to buy something thats healthy . To me its insane t o serve elderly people tater tots and french fries and cor dogs just because it takes little work on the weekends. We pay over a thousand dollars a month for the right to eat crap on
the weekends? just does not m ake sense t o me as they have a dietitian who lets the owners dictate to her what she can serve
and that also is so silly.I love the d arned things as they m ke them really s crisp here but they are not good f or my blood sugar however. but this time w hen I checked I had lucked out as it was 119 whis is just fine as I expected 290 at least.

Too many people let their employers dictate to them and they really let the people they are there to help down. Way down. I doubt that the tater tots, french fries or corn dogs have much food value in them. I hope you take a multiple vitamin daily. Glad that your blood sugar was good and not too high. Do you get salad and vegetables any of the time? Fruit?

hi May do not feel bad most people do not really know much aboutt diabetes v ut one thind I will always tell ever yone when you get in your forties or fifties do watch your weighte as most type 2 diabetics become that way at that age from getting fat and not watching their weight. The excess fat cells impede the insulin from getting the sugar into the muscle cells where it belongs and i instead dumps it into the blood where it does not belong. so watch your weitht when in the forties and fifties.

I personally think it's all about "mindset" and how badly you want something. If you want good health bad enough, you will do what it takes to achieve a healthy lifestyle.
Once you shift your mindset and stay consistent with healthy eating, your natural cravings for foods will gravitate toward the healthier option. Your taste buds will think all that sweet food is "too sweet" or "to oily" Your body is an amazing machine, it will crave what you give it.

Arieles you are right and before I came here to this retirement center I was eating my own cooking and all very healthy food. but here I have very little choice of food as I am served what they decide we should have and either eat it or leave it. Welll I did omit bread and the dessert so I guess my eating all the fries did not hurt me as my blood sugar tested out at 119. I know all about what I can eat and not eat having been a diabetic for fifty years but I do think we all have one thing we do like that we will omit other stuff just to have it , and our diabetes educator told us to go ahead occasionally and have that one thing. as then you will not be craving it and can go on back tol normal diet.
