When I was a young woman going to dances and generally enjoying life to the full there was one particular dress that I loved to wear. I still remember it with great nostalgia and whenever I do I am taken back to the days when I dared to wear my first bikini and learned to do The Twist.
It was a blue dress, neither light nor dark, and it was a silky material. Overlaying the dress was lace with velvet type black designs. The bodice was tight and the skirt was full. My waist was 25 inches and perhaps that adds to the nostalgia for me.

I was just remembering with another Mylotter the hot pants I used to wear back about 40+ years. That dress sounds very pretty. I haven't worn a bikini in many a moon. I remember on Gone With the Wind she was trying to get her waist down to 16 inches. Can you imagine?!

Someone actually showed up at work in hot pants? That's weird. In the 1800's women did alot of things to make their wastes smaller. There are even pictures on the internet of some sencing in their wastes until they can't eat and can barely breath. There was on afew years ago that had had some surgery to remove a lower rib her waste could be so small.

I can remember when the top of my leg was 16 inches but never my waist. Gone with the Wind was fiction so let's not believe anyone has ever had a 16 inch waist!
I was past wearing hot pants but I remember one of the girls in the office turning up in a pair, it caused quite a stir...

I really like the sound of your beautiful dress that you used to wear when you were younger. I like a silky sort of look like satin. Blue is one of my favorite colors for clothing. I do much clutter clearing but I kept one special dress I had when I was aged 16 to 17 years old. It is a black dress with white spots. It is an off the shoulders sort of design. The bodice is tight and there is a black bow at the back. I wore it to an end of year ball. Everyone looked wonderful that special evening.

I remember a painting I did when I was young about a mountain and there was a lake that was in front of it. Never had a memory about a gown, I was so afraid that it would fall off. That was my first strapless, and it was so embarrassing as I was more worried about it falling down then singing.

Good day 41CombedaleRoad,
I loved the main title of your post and that gives me an idea to reminisce those sweet moments when I was still working to that far place. Well, if only that clothes can bring me back to those times I will grab that opportunity and never miss it. As I really want to go back to that place again. To stay there for long, to live there maybe until I grow old.

Hi combedale,
You really had a nice memory about that dress and your younger years too. Is the dress still with you?
I think it is always good to look back and remember old sweet days. It keeps us smiling and helps us to look forward to making another sweet memories even how old we are

It sounds absolutely delightful! I'm trying to picture it in my head right now. :) It's great when you can look back at articles of clothing that refresh your memories of a happier time. I'm not quite at that point yet (only 27, very green lol!) but I'm sure when I am at that point, I'll be able to look back with an equal fondness.

Aah but I bet you have some memories of some nice clothes you wore as a child. I remember some button up leggings I used to have to wear. Not a nice memory actually because my mother buttoned them up with some instrument and were so tight they pinched my little legs. I think they were red, but the memory is rather dim now, but the pain has stayed with me...

I rtemember dresses that I made for my daughter. Her first dance, proms, parties. I was a rather good seamstress back then, and her gowns were beautiful. I even made a wedding gown once...for my son's now ex-wife. I remember them all...from the yellow off the shoulder to the gold prom gown and the teal jeweled one. I still have the yellow one..she was a size 5 then.
