I really misses traditional games that I used to play before.Games that don't required expensive and hi-tech gadgets just like what kids have to day.I don't have too much toys during childhood like kids today since I used to play outdoor and interaction games with neighbors and friends.Games that are really interactive and sociable.
Unlike now, usually you will see kids holding tablets or gadgets like psp to play games by themselves. They just content with it and just play by themselves. No more interaction with other kids or people, sitting lazily while playing those games.Online games are also everywhere wherein shows violence, promote violence that might influence the kids somehow and someway.
I do also play some games that we have in my phone as well, but I always make sure that I their are some limitations since I am old and mature enough about it,I guess.
For me, those traditional games that we have and play before should still be practice and teach to our new generation today cause its very interesting, fun, enjoy, interactive and sociable to play.
I am looking forward to see kids even just in our neighborhood playing those traditional games that I used and love to play before.

I loved playing all those games that we used to have back then. And I am happy that somehow, I had a "life" during my childhood. The existence of these game consoles and other high tech gadgets worries me to a point that my kids would just have a heart attack at such a young age due to inactivity. They tend to be playing with their gadgets all the time and bring it to anywhere they go. Aside from that, they have never been more inclined to eat unhealthily. Good thing that my kids now have become active in playing basketball. So now, they have their exercise every once in a while.

Exactly! And 3 of my kids are pretty much overweight for their age! It's hard to take those excess pounds when they really had it from both of their parents!

i agree with you. some children get obese because they prefer playing with gadgets that they no longer run and play outside.

Well in my son's school I think they included some Filipino Games in their PE curriculum that is why my son learned playing "Yoyo" and "sipa" during their 1st and 2nd quarter. I do not know if they would continue doing so this latter part of their grading system.

True it is rare indeed to see some kids playing the traditional games we used to play in our days. I mostly see those are either playing the latest electronic toys and some hooked on watching TV. It is sad that our traidional games are less appreciated than it was before. I think I am lucky to have played some of those but admittedly am not aware of other traditional games anymore.

Oh that's good that it is still included in PE curriculum in school wherein I experienced also before. In this way, our traditional games are still practice despite of all the modern technologies that we have today.

Most of our children's specially those who are living in the city forget to play our traditional games. They are more on games in the internet and psp. They spend most of their time watching their big screen TV and play on their robotic gadget. Kids living in the rural areas still playing those games.

Well I guess in rural areas, there are just few who are playing those games just like in our place. Before some kids still play but as they grow the stopped playing it then generation next to them are more on to online games and gadgets now.I think I better start teaching my little niece and nephew about those games that we have before.

Lucky are those children from the province , because they get to interact through actual games with their classmates. Thus, they form good friendships because of that. In addition, they get to exercise their bodies through actual plays.
It's sad that kids of moneyed people because they can afford the latest gadgets would turn to them for plays. Thus, spending so much time in them, they don't get to exercise their bodies and social aspects like those poor kids at the province.
They don't enjoy how it is to play "real" games with "real" playmates.

That's explains why there are some people who get sick of hypertension, heart ailment and other sickness related to sedentary life, ardoy!

Yes, real play with real playmates.Sometimes there are small fight yet afterwards everyone are fine and okay then play again as if there's nothing happened.
Some kids in the province still play those games but most are not. They don't even know the game. Most of the kids now do play games that are quite lazy since they are just sitting while playing in their gadgets.

I was also a fan of traditional games when I was a kid. i know those games like patentero, lukso, sungka, piko, shatong and a lot more. we all knew that due to the vast changes of our community today, technologies are fast evolving, traditional games are like one of those bizarre games when you told to some kids today. well we can't blame technologies but as a Filipino we should restore it for a lot of reasons. I think schools should implement of having traditional games in their curriculum. what do you think?

We cant really blame technologies since it is very useful to us in many ways yet we should not forget to look back on things that we have in the past that somehow helped a lot in technologies that we have today. Adding it in some curriculum in school like in P.E. could somehow help for kids now to know about this traditional games that we used to enjoy playing before. Teaching them about it could restore those games that are part of our culture.

does anyone here remembers the games "syato"? it requires to sticks, one long and other short. you use the long one to hit the short one. anyone?

Ah yes SYATO.....This was played on the ground and requires two players, first dig a small hole on the ground and put the small stick on the hole slanted so it stick out.Player 1 will hit the small stick with the long stick as hard as he/she can so it catches on air to be hit by the long stick as far as it goes. The second player will looked forward the first player to anticipate and catch the stick to nulify the points and become his turn...the number of points will be counted by the length of the long stick...
I really missed these traditional games,I'm glad that this was introduced now in elementary school.

I was lucky enough to experience those outdoor games when I was still a child. Me and my friends would go out and start playing games like Patintero, Tumbang Preso, Mataya Taya, Langit Lupa, etc. I guess times have changed and kids these days have adapted to what today's world has to offer. Also, there are more dangers in the streets these days as compared to before and maybe that's the reason why parents don't allow their children to go out that much.

I used to play those games too, the excitement of avoiding not to be the "taya". Tiring cause it required physical actions yet fun and enjoyed. But moms wanted us to take nap during afternoon but we wanted to play since we can't do it during schooldays.Hayy its really brings joy and happiness remembering those childhood days of our lives that I do hope that kids now will experience as well.

who will ever forget those days when no one spends money just to play games. what one has to do is simply go out and play games with other children on the streets. there is no security concern and other worries. i love those days. but of course, time moves fast and gadgets totally change the way children play games.

you dont get to see kids play what we used to play during our childhood. you often see them in front of the pc or laptop early in the morning. that's what i see with my nephews and nieces. they dont mind not eating breakfast as long as they are either playing online games or watching cartoons on tv. but i urge them to go and run or play outside in the afternoon. they all complain if i told them to go out at least give their eyes a break. i miss our traditional childhood games. i told them about it and they find it boring and no challenge according to them :)

Yes some kids find it boring and tiring even though they just tried it once. They always wanted to play games on their gadgets wherein just required their eyes and hands. They just sit in one corner and just play by themselves and don't need playmate if they don't want to.

I am happy that 'flying kites' are still popular at some housing
area with huge park and field. Although some of the kites are commercial
type, colorful and expensive. My son did tell me that he have not fly a
kite before. He said he love to try and I told him we can make one or
just buy one. We need a big field and windy day. Perhaps we can do it
one of these holiday. Hopefully! I missed flying kites too.

Oh I like playing kites with my dad before especially during summer vacation. My dad can do big kites by his own out of bamboo and plastic while I was watching him when he has no work on weekend. Then eventually we will go to open field to fly the kites.
I seldom see it in our place now.I do hope that I could do it also with my future kids cause it is really fun and enjoy to do.

One of my favorite games that we used to play when I was a child was that we would play Dodge Ball all the time at school. We would play it during our physical education classes and we would also play the game when we were on our recess. I recently asked my daughter about this and she told me that they are not allowed to play Dodge Ball because it is illegal to play in the schools now. This really is something that makes me sad because though I do acknowledge that it is a violent game, it was also something that forced us to be more active than the games that kids are playing at school now.

Sad that games that we used to play before was quite forgotten now. I know that time develop and evolve yet we still have to look back from the past and where we came from. Doing once in a while is not bad I guess.

OH definitely time really changed so far yet I guess those games should not be forgotten and covered with these gadgets today. We should still introduce those games to kids today so they could even give it a try to play it experience the fun and excitement of those games.
