He was adopted

He always knew that he was adopted, and he loves his adopted parents. His hobby is car racing; he has lots of girlfriends and dropped out of school recently. He met his biological parents for the very first time last week and discovered that his dad also loved fast cars, had loads of girlfriends and dropped out of school at the same age he did. Is all this traits in the genes?

wow... coincidence, serendipity... what else? maybe it runs in the genes... but those are external traits and interests.. can it be inherited by genes? i don't think so. LOL or maybe they are indeed inherited ones.

It is strange, hey. Does that now mean that genes controls our lives? Are we indeed carriers of our great, great parents' good AND bad genes? If so, when do we then apply our own choices in life, or can we just shake our head and say 'I cannot help being who I am.... it's in the genes'?

that's precisely my point. coincidence? of having two qualities running in both blood stream. yes. sometimes I like to refute the idea of genes because this has been overused as escape goat or alibi of wrong doings.

I think that we should not ignore genes, because that reminds us where we came from. Eventually life is full of choices that we are challenged with and it is important that we take time to exercise the right ones whereby we can benefit hey.

Most probably the genes are the reason for both of them having the same things in life. If both of them had lots of girlfriends, so it might be because both men are good looking. Their love for cars maybe due to their exposure to it when they were both young. As for being drop outs, well, maybe it has something to do with wanting to do more things outside the classroom coz they have engrossed themselves with girls and cars.

We make different choices in life. And not because your father did one thing, then you will absolutely do it in the future, too. But some would have the same "way of life", just like what you have told in your post. The father and son didn't know each other but somehow they have had the same things happen to them.

Yip! That is why I think we should not blame everything that happens to us in life on genes. Eventually we choose what we want to do and who we are, hey. Sometimes people forget there are consequences to all our choices.

jenny1015, do you think it has anything to do with the choices we make in life?

I think so. Like the old sayings, "a mango tree won't bear an apple". But it doesn't apply to everyone. My father is a drunkard (addicted to) but my two brothers never drink because they don't want to follow our father's footsteps and they don't want their (my brothers) kids to be drunkard either.

See, we should exercise CHOICES and not focus on the bad genes that runs in our blood! Well done to your brothers!

He is still in awe about all the similarities he and his dad shares. His adopted parents means everything to him and they were there for him throughout his life. I am not sure how far he will allow his biological parents' influence in his life now... Will wait and see...

hello there, Well thats really possible, even if you try to keep someone in a different surrounding,a person would get attracted to things which are in his/her genes. Its a common things that guys usually gets attracted to cars and thrills and which boy doesn't have girlfriends these days. My point it,yes no matter how you keep a person or which ever surrounding he/she would get attracted to things he like, one cannot be forced to like something, right.? take care raj

My issue here is: can we blame our forefather's genes for who we are now, and if yes, what about the choices we exercise in life? Do choices weigh heavier than what is in the blood...?

There is indeed something in our genes that does get passed on to the next generation. So, it doesn't surprise me that this young man has the same interests as his real father. Hope that he can finish school though. Hope his father encourages him to finish school. Most parents want their children to do better than themselves, so hopefully, despite the genes, this young man can get a good education.

Genes do get passed, hey. what if our families have extremely bad genes, how will that influence our choices in life?
