What is your opinion on gun laws? Should they be tougher? Should they not?

With several tragedies, happening, with the use of assault weapons, what is your take on ownership of said weapons? Do you feel that regular citizens should own them? If so, why? If not, why not? Do you feel that the gun laws are too lax? What do you think about the tougher laws in other countries where there are lower rates of death due to use of guns? Do you feel that the ban of the use of assault weapons is against your rights, if you live in the USA? If you live in a country with tough gun laws, what is your take on all of this? Thanks.
