In my home country the earlier someone can claim a pension from the government is on his or her 67th birthday. To get the maximum amount of money the person needs to have 30 qualifying years from their National Insurance contributions. If someone has less qualifying years he or she will get a lower weekly amount of government pension. Some people have a private pension which can give them a higher amount of money than the government pension. What do you hope to do once you retire? How old will be when you retire do you imagine? If you are already retired how old were you when you retired?

People who work in Military can voluntarily retire at their service of 25 years. Those who work in the government or any private firm can have an optional retirement at 60 but they can still continue until the age of 65 years old.

In our country it all depends on what kind of work you are engaged in. If you are a worker, you may get retired at the age of sixty, but if you are a woman worker, the age for retirement is 55. For government workers, the age to get retired is sixty. Now the government is making some decision to delay the retirement age for people till they reach 65, which is not in favor of by most people. Personally, I prefer to get retirement salary at the age of 60, so that we can have more time to enjoy the retired life to the full. When I get retired, I can do many more things I wish to do, especially traveling to places I look forward to. Thanks for your discussion. Take care.

Here in our country retirement age is 60-65. But some retired at an early age as long as you have completed your 30 years in service (this is optional) anyone can choose to work until they reached 65 yrs old. Private insurances gives higher pension (but still depends on how many years of contribution was made) Government insurances gives lower pension compared to private sectors.

I think in my country, it starts at the age of 60. And the system's pretty much the same. What you get depends on how much you put in to your SSS (Social Security System) for the privately employed or GSIS (Government Social Insurance System?) for government employed. If you don't have the registration, you get nothing except maybe if there's some charity organization that works for that. Like anyone else I guess of my age, I think like many that it's better to prepare while you still can work (whatever age that may be, GOD willing). With the economy going down, it's save first! There're a lot of youth who are working as early as they can, and planning to work as long as they can. So do many of the elderly I know (though not as heavily loaded and just to maintain being productive, GOD willing). Hopefully, I will do too.

Well,I stay in India and retirement age here is 60.But in some organisations it varied from 55 to 58 as well. From my personal perspective, i might retire from a full time job around age of 58.I started my full time job at age of 22.It has been a fun ride so far.Although income grew , my expenses has also been high and have not been able to cost cut on various fronts although i have started looking in that front too.I may prolong a little further from 58 but i do not plan to make a little higher to that.Working 9 hours a day is perhaps too high many a time for me.But this is all in case, i do not start any business full time, then whole things changes. And for sure, i might not retire at all.Its hard to predict to future in many cases. But then i would continue with my online blogging and profession till i die.I do not think i would like to sit and idle and enjoy things at home.I guess i need to be busy throughout life and would like to enjoy and earn each and every day of my life from here on.Thanks and good topic as well.

They have changed it recently haven't they my friend in this country, they have extended the age, it used to be 65 for men and 60 for women. Although I am not sure how the pension will keep going, especially when I come to retire, as you know the country is in a financial crisis, people are living longer and there is mass unemployment as the recession continues to bite in. It is scary to think about retirement. I am 42 this year and will have another 25 years to go before I can claim.

Well, I think social security originally kicked in at 65... but for my age it'll be 66. For my roomie it'll be 67. Still, that's only 7 years away. Now, I'm "semi-retired". I have retired from a state job and now work part time doing home health. If something were to happen to my client, I'd probably have to go find another job, I'm just not willing to do this job for a stranger. Either that or try for disability retirement, but I'd rather not.

Some private pensions start paying a reduced amount at age 55. Social security pays a reduced amount starting at age 62. Full pension depends on birth year (with social security). For me it would be age 66 and some number of months. I don't remember exactly. I hope to travel, relax, maybe do some volunteer work. I'm sure I won't be able to retire early at this point. I have a retirement account that was involved in a fraudulent transaction. Worst case secenario, the whole thing is lost. Best case scenario, I might get about 60 - 70% of it back.

I'm not sure the exact age, but in this day and time I am sure that some people can't afford to retire or are forced to retire. So people probably aren't looking forward to retirement like they used to.

In the US we can retire at 55, 62 or 65 or more. I've been blessed by God because I'm considered retired now since the age of 50. I live in Puerto Rico and my hubby is supporting me till I get my three pensions, social security and my IRA. Many can retire after twenty years on a job if you are a cop, detective, garbage collector etc... As retired person I have been maintaining my garden which consists of plaintains, bananas, starfruits, mangos, breadfruit, tomatoes, greenpeppers, grandules beans, eggplants. We also have grapefruits, lemons, pineapple and oranges trees that have not bloomed yet. Its alot of work but I love it. It keeps me in shape and happy. I also have roses and other flowers to maintain. I love to read, write and hope to write a book one day soon. Once my baby cody a shih tzu who will be 15 in June passes on we will then travel God willing.

In my country, retirement age is about the same as in your, except that the age is 65 years old. Qualifying years (30) also count here. You can retire earlier, but you lose some benefits.

good day maximax8, in our place here, aged 65 is considered as technically retired. hence, if an employee working in a government reaches this age, he/she will be forced to avail the retirement. though there is an early retirement age which is 60. however, that is the thing being imposed if a person is working in a government sector. but if the person works in a private entity, mostly 70 years of age is the force retirement period for them. and usually those people who meets their retirement age, usually shifted in some business to handle with.

Here in the Philippines if you have a contribution in some government agencies you can claimed your pension if you reached 60 years old which is a retirement age. Since 60 years old is the retirement age and i am only 30 years old i have a long way to save enough money for my retirement. Actually even i am still young at early age my husband and I preparing for our retirement we both got an insurance which we can enjoy in the future. We wanted to travel in different country and enjoy our life when we retire without thinking of our expenses.

Here in mexico there is no real retirement age. But most who work for government agencies are asked to retired about 65-68 years old.
