My husband and I haven't been on a real vacation, and we've known each other for about 7 years. We've gone on a couple of road trip and camped, so I don't consider those actual vacations..
This fall, we're hoping to go away, but we need to save up the money to do so. We have a lot of saving to do, so I need to start now.
I know how much the actual vacation will cost, about $1800 for the 2 of us, but this could change getting closer to the time of the trip.
We're hoping to go away in October, but if we have to change it to November, it may cost more. I don't know yet, and wont know until it gets closer to the time.
I also need to make sure that I can get the time off of work, a week of vacation is a long time, and it's really up to my boss as to when I could go.
Our plan is to go to Cabarete, a small town near Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. I was researching all inclusive vacations, and one resort stood out to me as a good place to go.
I was referred to a forum where people who live in that country discuss various things about their country, and one person highly recommended the resort we want to go to. She also recommended some activities to do down there, some of which we are very interested, but need to save additional money for.
We want to go horseback riding on the beach and go snorkeling for sure. The beaches are amazing down there, so swimming in the ocean will be a great experience for us. I've never done it before, so it will be new to me.
As long as we can save the money up, this vacation will become a reality. And this is something I'm looking forward to. I'm thinking of using a special bank account to put money into just for this purpose.
I looked into using reward points for the trip, but when I look at it, I need more points than I'll ever be able to get, and the points don't cover all inclusive resorts or even the resort I want to go to.
So I'll do this on my own, and save up this money. I have tons of pennies I can wrap up and put into the bank, and all change that we save up will go toward this as well.
Any earnings from here will go there too. Doing all these things should help us to save up for this vacation.

It's sounds like you've put a lot of thought & planning into this. I know it will be hard to save up all that money but it will be worth it in the end. We all need to get away every once in a while. Not only because you've worked hard & you deserve it, but when you go on vacation you make memories that will last forever. Then when you get one of those days where your tired or stressed you think about your wonderful vacation that you had & it will help you get through the day. Remember to bring a camera because if your like me you will want to take pictures of everything.

I will really enjoy the time away, and will definitely bring a camera, just not the one I have now. I will be buying a smaller one for the trip as I don't want to risk the one I have getting stolen. I also want to get a waterproof one so I can take it in the water with me and get some amazing pictures out in the ocean.
This would be a trip of a lifetime, with memories that would last forever.

It seems that you will have a great trip with your husband, how I admire you! I never go to a foreign country with my husband, I went abroad once, it's a business trip, only by myself. It's interesting to go to another country, but it will be more interesting to go with our family.
Now I have a daughter, so it will be more difficult to go abroad. My daughter liles travellling, too. SO I think I need to save money for that, too. Her recent wish is to take a plane to go to seaside. As she has never been to the seaside, and she never took a plane. SO I will try to save money to fulfill her wish.
So wish you have a nice trip with your husband soon.

hi,
that is true that if we wanted to have a vacation this coming holiday we should save money to spend when we go to the vacation, meaning its a preparation for the vacation, and that is what i do right now because my family plan to go in our native province again.

I went to Punta Cana a few years ago, I loved it. The resort we went to was amasing, the staff is amasing. Plus, you tip a few dollars at the bar, and they will run acorss the resort with the drinks. I remember one guy I gave $20 not even thinking (as here right), he followed me around all week, getitng me drinks, and making specific drinks they only make certain days for me.
The only issue I had was actually the other guests from Italy and the UK. They were snotty, they would make faces at us, because the staff treated us Canadians differently, they always say how nice we are, and they love us. So those from teh Uk (who I was told tend to be snotty to begin with) would say comments, and scream rude things because they clearly just jealous.
They made special food for us, for breakfast which was included in the package. It was all inclusive, we did a scubadiving class, we missed the one that went out int the ocen though, whcih I wanted to do. We went doon bugging which was rather fun.
But they are very pushy, they let the general public in to sell things, and they will follow you around. I told one guy off, for harrassing me it's ridiculous.

I've been warned about the beach vendors, not looking forward to that. Maybe I should hand them a dollar and tell them to go away.
I have had the resort I'm looking at come highly recommended by someone who's been there 6 times, so I don't think I want to go anywhere else.

I forget where we went now, but it had good ratings. Also, the beach was amasing, again Canadians get special treatment, we had our own section of the beach. They truely treat Canadians differently, I remember people from the US going you must be Canadians.

We will deserve it that's for sure. Just have to make sure we have the funds for it first.

I know what you mean about saving up for a vacation. I have been saving for months for a trip to NYC. I hope to go in February, and meet up with a couple of friends of mine, to stay at the Waldorf Astoria. that's going to be expensive, but from what I understand, it'll be worthit! I am really excited, Looks like I'll go with about $2,500.

That would be a nice plan for you and your partner. How I wish we can have a nice vacation with my wife in the near future. We have plan to visit Japan after a year, we are invited by her sister who married a Japanese. We only spend for the air ticket. They will take care our hotel and travel within Nagoya and Tokyo Japan. We are saving some budget for the trip but not sure the exact date.

That sounds awesome. You and your husband really need to do this. I understand the feeling of needing to go on a vacation. My husband and I haven't been able to take any vacations like that either but I would love to and hope that in the future we will be able to. All the ways that you have for saving will definitely get you to your goal sooner! It is amazing how fast all the change adds up. If you and your husband both keep at it you will have the money in time to take your trip. I'm excited for you guys. I think every family should try and take a vacation every now and then.

Wow I love vacations! Although money is always the something for us to consider. I haven;t been on vacations right now. But I am planning to leave for work by May just to take the time off for a month. It's a vacation but it's actually not. LoL! It's a vacation coz I have to travel but I'll only be travelling back home since I am working outside my country. I can't wait as I am missing my family!
Well, I do hope that you and your husband will save up some more money for an enjoyable vacation on October!
