In China,if people who love jackfruit, they will eat it as one kind of fruit directly. But it can be made as a kind of soup as well.Stewing the jackfruit together with the chicken is really wonderful. But honestly I don't like jackfruit.I am afraid of the smell. But it is a healthy fruit. Hope you can work out soon, lol.

hi! Jackfruit is used to make vegetarian dish. It is not a fruit actually but treated as vegetable. It is difficult to peal because of throns. Vegetable vendors do it easily. Once peeled, it is sliced into pieces and then deep fried. After frying it is put into a already prepared gravy. For further details you could Goggle - How to make a dish with jackfruit.

It is ripe or not? If it is ripe better to make jelly so you can use it for your daily bread. I like jack fruits so no need to make it jelly.

2 of them, seem to be ripe. Alittle soft feeling. The other 2 are darker and more hard feeling...

Jack fruit is common in the Philippines, however, you didn't say if they were small o big. The small unripe and jack fruit about a kilo in weight can be cooked as vegetable while a ripe mature fruit can weigh from 5 to more than 10 kilos which can be eaten from 10 to 20 people. The layer which covers the seed of the ripe fruit is sweet.

Jackfruit has a unique aroma, but its delicious... u should try.. there are many way to consume it. for unrippe jackfruits (young), u can cook it with curry recipe + coconut milk.. ripe jackfruits can be eaten it self, or coat it with flour than fry , or add to ur drink recipe to get the aroma ( such as : coconut water + coconut meat + sugar + lemon/citrus + jackfruit/chop + ice... FYI, the problem when preparing fresh jackfruit is the white latex sap it exudes when cut. So.. make sure to coat ur knives, cutting surfaces and ur hand with oil (cooking oil)...and it wont be a problem anymore... :)

I have never heard of a jackfruit, I looked it up in on Wikipedia and 'The flesh of the jackfruit is starchy and fibrous, and is a source of dietary fibre. The flavour is similar to a tart banana' For the preparation and dish 'jackfruit is commonly used in South and Southeast Asian cuisines. It can be eaten unripe (young) when cooked, or ripe uncooked. The seeds may be boiled or baked like beans. The leaves are used as a wrapping for steamed. seeds are also used to make Kerala cuisine' I hope that helps my friend.

The jackfruit tree is well-suited to tropical lowlands, and its fruit is the largest tree-born fruit reaching as much as 80 pounds (36 kg) in weight and up to 36 inches (90cm) long and 20 inches (50 cm) in diameter. It is native to parts of South and Southeast Asia and is believe to have originated in the southwestern rainforests of western India. Our family enjoys Thai foods so I am giving you the link I use for this one particular recipe we truly enjoy. thaifood.about.com/od/vegetarianthairecipes/r/jackfruitcurry.htm Here is another link I use often for a variety of jackfruit uses: www.virtualherbarium.org/tropicalfruit/jackfruit-recipes.html. Let me know if you try and like or dislike this fruit. I have family in Malaysia who come home to Canada twice per year and always bring me jackfruit. For you Maria, while you are still in Mexico, it may be easier to get some from Brazil. Enjoy Everyone!

Cut it open and find the yellow flesh inside it. That's what you eat. There is one seed inside the flesh. In my country the seed is boiled to be eaten.

ok, so I can boil the seed and then eat it? do I put anything on the seed to eat? or just like it is?

These posts are interesting. I haven't heard of a jackfruit before either. If it's taste is similar to a banana I am not sure I would like it. You will have to let us know how you like it and how you decided to prepare it.

You'd better peel one of them and smell...because its smell is very special, and is enjoyed only by some people. Just like cheese which is only enjoyed by some people, too. It's a brand new experience, cool. Let me know if you like it;)

hi maria, go to the site to know everything about it they are a very common fruit here in India, we dont normally buy a whole one for it is a big difficult process to cut open and consume them, we usually get them ready to eat, even the seeds inside can be used for making curry and sometimes boiled and eaten, they are sweet and have a good taste, enjoy eating.... this http://dalitoy.blogspot.in/2012/06/how-to-cut-jackfruit.html
