First artichoke ever

Canada

My daughter really wanted to try artichoke so we bought one and cooked it last night. We opened up the leaves a little and put butter and fresh garlic in it and stood it up in the steamer. Then we used a dipping sauce of butter and garlic as well. It was so good. She really enjoyed her first artichoke.

I didn't have my first artichoke until I was an adult! (My family never ate them). My hubby and kids love them (and they are soooooo nutritious), so we try to have them at least once every couple weeks. They like it with a mayo(veggie based)/mustard dip - and I like it just plain with nothing on it. We get the artichoke packs from Trader Joes (there's 4 in it) . . . seems to be the best deal around. Glad your daughter liked her first artichoke . . . how old is she?

I also remember my first artichoke, it was a year ago and I was flipping through a magazine and I saw the artichoke. I then watched a couple of videos on youtube on how to prepare and cook artichokes. I really got a bad craving for it that my husband finally took pity on me so we went to a farmer's market. Too bad it isn't the season then, so we have no choice but to get those in can. We just put them in water to boil and then ate it with butter. It was really good, although I'm still hoping to have a fresh artichoke.

I love artichokes and I wish they weren't so expensive here. I tried to grow them one year (the web site said they'd grow here) but they didn't get big enough to develop heads. I use plain butter as a dipping sauce. Wow, that sounds so good right now!

I absolutely love artichokes!! I don't get them very often because they are pricey compared to other produce and my husband is not a huge fan. I love to dip them in butter and garlic too! I wish I had some now~

Artichokes are one of my favorite foods. I haven't had one in at least a year. I am glad your daughter enjoyed that, now you can have it more often.

No matter what I do, artichokes are not available in my country. I heard it good for salad preparation. I had seen them only in pictures.

That actually sounds delicious, I may have to try it. But I never see fresh in the focery store just canned. I normally make spinach and artichoke dip with pitas.
