Now I not like to send the sms or read the received sms because I feel if we want then we can chat with our friends or family members on online facebook or other sites. If necessary then calling also. So why you spend the money in sms. Now life is busy and no time for sms because now the Internet world and people prefer Internet more than mobile. What you think sms is good idea or you are also feeling bore for sending the sms.

sureka, you are right, if both of us have internet then we can chat, but some people don't have internet facility as well as some times we are in need to keep distance from our system, at this kind of time cell phones and sms will help us to keep in touch with our friends and family members. In fact now a days lost of persons are using the smart phones as their computer and have fb application in their phone and communicate with their friends and beloved persons using it

Personally I cannot imagine not being able to send SMS unless there are other ways ti contact and talk with someone, and you are available this way all the time. I know many people who are not online much, and this is the only way to keep in contact, so for me I still see a big need for it.

hi there surekharathi,
with regard to your post, i guess chatting is a different thing to sms though both of them involves a dialogue. though a lot of people are using mobile phones, hence not all of them can use in online chat. thus, one must have a high end smart phone to be used in chatting.

It still costs more to pay for internet services than to pay for sms. Here in our country, we only pay 1 peso per message. Unlike if you would be sending a message via Facebook that requires internet connection, you need to pay more. You can only save a few peso if your mobile phone is post paid and covers a free internet usage.

NO SMS in noway can be replaced with an internet for now, but in future if internet goes more than cheapest then I think Internet chat will replace all those phone calls and SMSs service, Then all telecom company will be much dependent on being an ISP company.

But if you want to have the online chat, at first both of you shall be online. Of course it will be convenient and free of charge if you sign in it with your computer. If you use the mobile phone, then at least it still charges you since you use GRPS. There is an advantage to send SMS. That is you can send it any time and it will not bother for the receiver. And today there are some software which you can send SMS free of charge. I just take advantage of it to send free SMS.

I use both internet chat and text messages. I think that is there some advantages about text messages. I always carry my phone when I leave the house, but I am not able to use the internet when I am away from my home since the internet connection on my cellphone is expensive and extremely slow. If I want to talk to my friends when I am away from my home it is easy to send them a text message and they can reply immediately. The internet chat is great, but it only possible when we are both in home in front of the laptops. There are some limitaions, but aside from that I think that internet chat is a good way to communicate. If we were both able to use wifi it would be a different situation, but that is not possible at the moment.

Some still use sms specially if they are far from home and that if the person he or she wants to talk to doesn't have a personal computer or a laptop. Usually chatting can be done whenever you have a personal computer but with the advancement of technology there are enabled phones which can accommodate chatting applications.

Talkative women if the person has no computer like you then they prefer sms because mobile can handle most of the persons but I think still some person has no laptop or Computer so they use sms. I think online chatting cant replace the sms.

I still like texts, because you can send them anytime you want, and they are instant, so if you need help immediately, you're gonna use an sms message for that. But otherwise, I do like to use e-mails and facebook messages more, because they are for free.

I think it can. Besides, there are a lot of Internet messengers that assume the SMS function. And, it is free too. My phone rarely sends SMS now because I can do it with the Internet and it doesn't cost me anything,

Since, texting SMS and chatting online are completely different I don't think one can replace the other.
Basically, both operate on different operating platforms and as such have different group of users. Depending on the mobile subscription, there are some plans that provide a limited number of outgoing text messages free per month including data access plan which allows cellphone owners to access the internet for chatting.
Chatting may be seemingly free but users will need to access the internet with their phones especially a smartphone before they can chat online. On the other hand, texting only requires a simple cellphone with a messaging function app and a working cellphone network.

I prefer to chat with my family, friends and relatives through social site especially on Facebook.
I am not using sms too much and do not put load to my mobile phone most of the time.
That is why, my friend who knows me- they don't send me sms during emergency, they prefer to call me.

For now, I don’t think that is possible because some gadgets do have SMS and mobile texting features despite their advancements in terms of putting a multi-tasking device such as smart phones and other multi-tasking devices.
However, there are some internet programs that lets one use SMS features with the use of internet providers. But in terms of putting out SMS, I think that wouldn’t be possible because phone carriers do put up an SMS features as well as Calling features that are more likely the purpose on such gadgets.
