Older people playing games, So what's the big deal?

Do you think old people should not play games? is it something that they shouldn't do and just work all day, come home, eat food, watch some news and sleep? I think they have life too. I have seen where children or the same age people telling some older people who play games for recreation and stress relieving are said that it is not their age to play games, it does not suit their personality. Why? i mean who said they can't play games, just because they are big? i know a couple where the guy loves playing games when he comes after work, but his wife does not like that. Not that he does not give her time. But she says he should stop playing dumb games and instead do something else. I don't know if it is right or wrong but i am definitely going to play games all my life. Because they are something i can be stress relieved from.

there is a saying that "only cows grow old". age is just in the mind and there is nothing wrong if older people play games that children play. there isn't a rule which states that games are only for children but even there is, I think it is unreasonable because every person has the right to enjoy life.

Somehow playing games could help to release stress so I guess there's nothing wrong with old people or adults still playing games as long as they play the games responsibly.I still love and like playing games. It could help to me to relieve from stress at work and life even a bit.As long as my responsibilities are not affected, I still play games.

Hi Archie I don't think there is anything wrong in it. Infact its good for health. Good physical exercise for the body. Many people thee days are going for walking on doctors advise so instead of that playing is also good. There is no age for that. I dont understand why people think so. Infact there are other category of people too. They think that we should not watch Disney /cartoon channels if we are grown up. The other day i was watching Disney channel and a boy came to my home who is studying 12th std. He said didi you watch cartoon channels hehehe this was his expression. I was like oh my whats wrong in this? TV is for entertainment and we can watch what we like to . Everyone dont have the same interest. From then, i was thinking why has he given such odd expression ? and that some really different laugh/smile whatever on his face.

I think young and old people has an equal right to play games to enjoy their lives and relieve the stress from works. My husband and I both in our 30's but we still love to play under the rain, in a open field, video games or even in timezones where lots of games that we can do other. Playing games are also a part of our bonding moments were we established a good relationship and partnership because we both love it and enjoy each other company. Playing games has no age limits as long as you feel young and happy for what your doing.

There's always that spot in a person's being that never grows old with age so to speak. I play computer games from time to time, there are so many games to choose from so why not indulge that side of me who craves even for a fleeting moment the thrill it gives to win against who knows? We should not deprive ourselves of the simple things that will help us ease the burden of a grueling weeks's work.

I can really relate to this discussion because according to stereotypes..I am not supposed to be a gamer. Age, occupation, etc...all those things are against my game playing but I have always loved them and I probably always will. My children and my b/f's friends think it's great that I play but they say it's not so great to try and get a turn

Playing games isn't really a big deal unless you don't have any self control and don't know when to put the controller down. A lot of adults who play games now are people who grew up with videogames so it shouldn't really be a big surprise now to see that adults play computer and videogames.

I don’t think that playing games is a childish thing to do, as long as one satisfies himself/herself and enjoys such activities without lowing his/her workloads, then it’s a good take in such persons playing games. However, if you more focus on games rather than working without balancing it, then it’s not normal because one should also weigh fun and reality. Practically, you need to work to earn a living. So you need to balance both fun and work at the same time.

my mother is late 70s and when my brother sent her a laptop, she learned to play solitaire. now my sister gave her a tablet and taught her to play angry birds. i think the wife of the guy you mentioned also does things that her husband might find "dumb." i mean we all have our "meaningless" activities to pass the time or destress so one isn't necessarily better than the other. i do admire, though, elderly people who are still active physically like exercising, playing sports, dancing, etc.

I know a aunty who is around 75 years old. And has been playing pool online and winning rewards from the site. And she uses them as gifting to her grandchildren. Isn't it so cute?

hahaha.. no age. I am proud of my sisters who still play up to now and mind you they are playing not farm games or matching games. One sister who is aged 62 was able to finish Final Fantasy 8 and Final Fantasy 10. She is playing online games too like, Mafia Wars and Castle Age, although she got hooked with Farmville and Frontierville too from some time. Another sister who is aged 55 played Ragnarok (RPG Online Games) she finished Final Fantasy 8 and Final Fantasy 10. She played Farmville and Frontierville, too. Now, she is playing 100 years of Wars, played Mafia Wars too. I am amazed on how they have learned how to use computers. We did not stop them even if they are aged because we know that playing games is good to get away from Dementia and Alzeimer's diseases.

hello archie, I agree with you, games are something which are not dependent of age factor.People who think that elder people shouldn't play games are wrong,May be they are concern about the physical health. There are some people who think that while playing if something happens, may be an injury, then it takes a lot of time to recover and the injury stays for a longer time,on top of it elder people have less strength to cope up with the injuries. On the other hand,if they go for some small games ,they might get good benefit out of it.good health and less prone to sickness and strong immunity power helps to stay healthy. One should not discourage but encourage to go for small games with thinking about people what they would say or think about it. did you found the tips useful for your street photography..? Take Care raj

hello archie, doesn't matter, my opinion would still be the same,at least while playing computer games they will find another way to interact with kids and grandchildren who are more addicted to computer games than physical games now a days.

Hi!.. Playing don't have age requirement, for me, specially computer games. Elders have the right to spend their precious times in what ways they want, and when it is in playing, then so be it. My parents are in their early 60's now and its the only time they get addicted on computer games, they always compete, and I find it very cool to see them like that, most of all, they are happy with it..

Older people should be allowed to play whatever game they love, if they like video game, they should be able to play too. There shouldn't be any age limit or even rule for people on playing game, so long as the game rule doesn't specifically say that it is not suitable for older people to play and doing so will result in deadly outcome for them, then they should play as much and as long as they wish. I have no problem with that, i think older people require recreration too to stay healthy that include game.

There's definitely nothing wrong in playing games for as long as the body is still able to handle the stress. I'd do the same even if i were older. Just as long as I know that the games will not in anyway be causing me harm on my joints.

My dad likes to play game a lot.So i don't think it's a big deal, after he got off from work,he tried his own way to make himself relax. So i think this is good for him but not excessive playing in front of computer and he knows how to control himself.

I don't feel nothing wrong games for a human belonging to any age. If a person feel a good time when he play the game he can go own with it but he should make sure that his duties are not going to be troubled with his interest in his games. Along with the games he should make his duties to the right way.

Its not for anyone to say whether or not older people should play games or not! I think that's a really silly, and, rude thing to say that your age says you can't play a game. If its an enjoyable experience anyone can do that. The only thing is these more active games, the older you get the more it will hurt when you're too active!

I think they should play games too from time to time but not all the time because they might get tired. Their physical body is not that strong already. Games can relieve stress and it is good for them.
