According to study of 142 countries conducted by the London based Legatum Institute Prosperity Index the happiest country in the world is Norway next were Denmark,Sweden, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Finland, Netherlands, Switzerland and Ireland. Norwegians are on top because 96% say they are satisfied with the freedom to choose the direction of their lives and 74% say other people can be trusted. It seems it is good to travel in these countries. What do you think of this mylotters?

I thought the Philippines was number one in this list. I think it was another agency doing the same survey. They found the most number of smiling faces in the Philippines. Why are people smiling, even the poorest and smallest vendors in the market, you see them smiling? It is because of these people's simplicity and humility. They do not have expectations of themselves, they are content to just be able to eat three times a day. They do not have very high goals like more educated people do. Satisfaction of one's lot is I think the key to happiness because the more we know, the more we crave for better things, the more we become disillusioned, etc.

Yes, we do smile a lot. But we cry a lot too, probably more than how other countries do. I think that is what makes us most emotional and least boring.

If it appears to be the top list then I will be amazed then. For me, Philippines will the most smiling face people in the world. They do this kind of gestures whatever the status in life. That's only my opinionated statement and not being bias or racist.

In a study however, Philippines is the most emotional country. Apparently, a country's wealth is proportional to their emotionality, that is according to the study. But it's okay, we laugh more in a single day than in any nationality.

I am a Filipino and i believe that where ever you are located in any parts of the world, happiness in within you and even if you live in a very cold(weathered) country, there still so many reasons to smile about and be happy about.
We here in the Philippines, times are hard, we are always visited with storms, and flash floods and catastrophes, you name it we have it.
But we still are happy because we know that we can surpass everything if we have deep faith in our God and we can move past all the troubles and hardships by helping each other and being with the family:)

I have been to Australis and i agree that people there are very happy. The Netherlands the people are extremely friendly and they like to help others a lot. As for the rest I am not too sure as i have never been there.

sad to know that the Philippines is not one of the top ten happiest countries but it's alright, because Filipinos are still happy people whether our country ranked 1st or whatever. I would love to go to these countries and see how contagious those people's happiness is and I believe these countries are beautiful too.

The happiest countries I just noticed have a good economy and most of their citizen have a good standard of living so it's not suprising that we filipinos our country is not included on the top 10 although we always practice hospitality and treat other nation with a smile, due to many problems we are facing like poverty, unemployment, corrupton which of course can never make us consider as happiest country. Sad to know the truth.

I would love to see these places. Especially Ireland. I have been to Canada and they do have alot going on for them. Why are these all cold or overly hot places?

At least, it should be fairly safe to travel in the Nordic countries. Just watch out for bad weather and snow avalanches :-)
Most of those countries are more or less expensieve, but safe.
I think however that there's some other indexes that rank countries differently, so that they take into account that you don't have to be that rich to be happy. Can't remember what they're called though, for obvious reasons we (I live in Norway) mainly hear about the once in which are at the top.

There are a lot of lists of "top ten happiest countries" available on the net and they can be very different. The Happy Planet Index says that #1 is Costa Rica ( http://www.nowpublic.com/world/happiest-countries-world-2012-happy-nations-complete-list-2946693.html ) ; for 24/7 Wall St. it is Denmark ( http://247wallst.com/2012/05/22/the-happiest-countries-in-the-world-2/ ), etc. If nobody agrees, I believe it is because happiness is not something easy to measure... and to reach !

The Nordics know something :). My best friend has left for Sweden 4 days ago, for a half-year internship, I'm gonna ask her after a while on this subjectzs. It seems like you don't have to have hot weather, loads of sunshine and stuff to be happy, it all depends on the attitude.

That makes sense because most of the people there seem contented with their lives. I guess if you're contented with your living situation it is easier to be happy.
