Your lungs are clear. No lungs?

This morning, my friend dropped by at my place. He wanted me to accompany him in the hospital to get the result of the x-ray. He was so furious about the outcome this. Along the way to the facility, I kept on calming him. Actually, he acted this way since he is a smoker and scared of having the result. As we approached the reception area, I got the result since he pushed me to do it. I was smiling at him and said, your lungs are clear. He suddenly freaked out and felt bad, unexpected reaction from my dear friend. Then he said, does it mean I don't have lungs anymore? I laughed and explained to him to be glad, since he is not suffering any lung related diseases. Since the result is remarkably normal. The next thing, his world changed to a more promising killer smile. I gave him a piece of advice to stop smoking for not being worried so much. He just looked at me and smiled. I hope he will stop smoking and get the message for not doing this kind of vices.

My SIL and I would often joke around those "lungs are clear" results!
But really, he needs to stop smoking before anything bad will happen to his lungs. He should start using the nicotine patch. I heard it is very effective in staying completely away from smoking.

"All lungs clear, no lungs at all". That is a very common joke we have in the office every time we undergo annual medical check up. It is actually just a joke but for a smoker it should be a warning. In the case of your friend. I hope he listens to your advice. He could not be that fearful about losing his lungs but keep smoking just the same. He should be happy his lungs are still intact despite his vice but I bet if he continues smoking nicotine his lungs will literally clear out eventually and not only that he is actually a most likely candidate of the BIG C.

Well, your friend is rightly worried because he had the concern to have something bad in the lungs caused by the fact that he is a smoker.
In fact, quitting smoking is a wise and intelligent, that we smoking, we have to do (I say we because at the time I smoke too!).
However, I believe that the concern of your friend was overstated, especially when it was believed to be "without lungs."
Maybe your friend is he hypochondriac?

That's the thing, if we do something really harmful to our health, we are creating our own ghost that haunts us until we get the final verdict. I do feel glad for him that despite his smoking habits he is still disease free. He should learn from this experience, that the scare he felt was real and it can become a reality if he will not start taking good care of himself starting now. He can start by trying to quit smoking.
You're a good friend in standing beside your friend in times that he needs some support.

If finding the results of this test were so scary for him then he should realize he needs to stop smoking for good. Just so he doesn't have to go through this again. I just don't understand people who start to smoke knowing how dangerous it is. I can't even inhale someone elses smoke without coughing. Its such a nasty habit and expensive one at that. I surely hope he stops smoking and realize his blessings this time. Next time it may not be good news.

According to the information given by you he seems to be worried that x-ray test will give out negative results may be lung cancer but by God's grace he is normal. I am surprised he actually knows that what can be the consequences of the smoking and yet he doesn't quit. May be this time the luck was in his favor but who knows what will happen next time.
And he doesn't replied to your suggestion that he should quit smoking, what does that mean he wants to quit or not. But as a friend you can only advice him whether he quits or not that is his decision. Actually God is giving him second chance to improve himself and he should show some respect to this wonderful life and stop playing with it.

Nice advice, to quit smoking is good for the health but it is not an easy job. It need patient and sacrifices. But you can capitalize on his reaction before he got his x-ray result. For in the long run it is inevitable that he can have lung's problem if he will not quit smoking.
