Twitter Chats

I have recently discovered Twitter chats. There are some for every topic and subtopic, and they're lots of fun. I make new friends, learn a lot and gain followers, which increases the value of my social media assets. Some of the Twitter chats I've engaged in so far are #gardenchat, #SocialCafe, #SundaySupper, #herbchat and #Foodieschat. I like #gardenchat and #socialcafe best, because they have dedicated curators, who save the transcripts onto dedicated sites, and the group members seem to be friendly, polite, helpful, knowledgable and truly concerned about the topics. And the guest hosts/sponsors at #gardenchat have been very interesting, too. Just this week, we discussed old fashioned gardening techniques with a Southern Living editor-at-large, whose work is based on the teachings of his grandmother. As it happens, some of my gardening knowledge comes from time spent with my grandmother, as well. I'm looking forward to participating in more Twitter chats with these groups and trying new ones when I can, perhaps even learning to host my own.

Hi, Professor, nice to meet you! Twitter chats come under the heading of "the best things in life are free" and "time flies when you're having fun." All you invest is your time and knowledge and you get back more knowledge, contacts and inspiration in an hour that seems like only 5 minutes.

Nice to meet again, tash, and thanks for responding to this discussion. I promote my articles on Twitter, too. I do the title then the link, then I hashtag with relevant chat group names. This gets my work to people who will be interested enough to retweet it, which happens often. And I do the same for them. Twitter chats are Mutual Aid Societies, and often have members who write online for at least part of their living. We don't automatically retweet everything group members post. It's gotta be good enough. Fortunately, it usually is. I predict you will enjoy yourself and grow your writing career in Twitter chats.

Hey julyteen, and thanks for joining in. Twitterchats are great for linking to people you're discussing. I find it very handy in my chats to discuss products I like and reference the people who make them, sometimes they are members of that particular chat, which works out well.

How do you join in on these groups on twitter? You start following them and then just start tweeting them? I'm a member of Twitter but could never get the hang of it totally. They have a lot of great things there to talk about it sounds like. I'd like to chat with them too one day when I have the time.

Hello Ariel, and thanks for responding. I think you'll enjoy Twitter chats, once you find one that interests you. I haven't used yahoo chat rooms yet. The Twitter chats I've been in so far have been filled with nice people. I hope that continues.
