I have noticed lately that a lot of animals are killed on the road. It may be a smashed cat, dog, frog and even cows. I feel sad Everytime I see these Roadkills. Whose fault is this? The car driver for being careless, the animal for loitering in the middle of the road, or the pet owners for letting the pet out of the house? What is your opinion on Roadkills? Who is to blame? And who should take care of the cleaning?

Well,it is no doubt the fault of the pet owners, these idiots need to keep their pets inside their own house , not letting them wondering all over the public street and highway, the owners of these strayed animals need to get a fine and order to clean up the mess they created on our highway and street. If anyone doesn't like the idea of having to always keep their pets under leash when outside or love to let their pets run around unrestrained in the public street, then they have no business of owning a pet, they are not mature enough to own one.

Hi Lampar! Yeah mostly it's the owner's fault for being negligent. But there are those few who didn't intend for it to happen. Like if the dog had broken free from his leash? But I guess the cleaning should be done by the owners though.

I think pet ownership classes will be a lot of help. I hope the local government could fund classes like that.

Hi Flapiz, Unfortunately I can't say whose fault is it until I know for sure how it happened. If people decide to leave their dogs because they're moving to a new house and can't take their dogs with them, I think a better choice is adoption. Road rage is common these day and I don't think it's necessary. My Chihuahua ran away from home when someone left the door open and he got hit by the car. Now my new dogs have that habit too. My Pom Pom is too fat, she won't run very far any way. She usually runs to a few house and stay there waiting for me to bring her home. Animals are unpredictable. I think everyone feel sad when their pets pass away because what would life be without a loyal best friend like a dog or cat. And a pet dog or cat, whether you like it or not, will give you a lesson in life, for example teaching kids to be kind and responsible. It also has to do with culture too. For example, in India. It is more common to see dogs on the street than inside the house. And when people go by they feed the dogs whatever they have. And these dogs look healthy with pretty fur and are very friendly. I bet they don't take shots or special vitamins like dogs in the U.S. In Viet Nam I don't dare to let my dog walks the street because many people over there are mean to dogs. They will capture the dogs, or put the dogs to sleep or turn the door into house slaves. I don't think my dogs can think for themselves that why they have me to make decisions for them but I make sure they have all their necessities but also freedom to be dogs like rolling in the dirt, digging hoses, some barking (not a lot) etc.

Well you are right. Sometimes we need to know the whole story to know for sure. Accidents do happen. I just find it depressing animal guts on the street. I've seen two in a day and so you could just imagine my horror. Yes culture is a factor. Here in my country some people eat dogs. And I hate them for that. I'm glad to know though that you really take care of your pets.

Hi Flapiz I hope that you are fine. I think that pet owners are guilty. I feel so sad too. I used to cry, I`m stronger now, and I try to take care of my pets. We have 5 cats, and 2 dogs. Our dogs were picked up from street and two of our cats.

Well pet owners are partly guilty because it's kinda their responsibility to keep the pets away from the streets. The streets is not a normal pet hang out so sometimes they unfortunately get hit by a car. Plus some accidents even humans are casualties too.

Its strange because lately here in Puerto Rico we have seen alot of roadkill along the hightways and its really horrible and disgusting. I believe though most of the dogs or cats on the highway being killed are stray dogs so you can't blame a homeowner. I also believe its usually the animals fault because they are in and out of traffic and its hard for a driver to stop in a split second if there are cars behind them.

For me, it's the driver's fault. Animals are helpless creatures. They don't know while drivers know what's going to happen if he goes ahead and run over any cat or dog on the road. The driver has to slow down first of all when it sees any animal crossing. He should put himself in the situation of the cat or dog.

Hello there ! The one to be blame if an animal would be hit and run is the owner ! The animals can't protect themselves in the case of hit and run because public highways is not their place of territory. So they don't know the danger in the place where they used to stroll. Having an animal is another a big responsibility , we need to protect and nurture then well. What ever happens to them , then we are answerable for it.

It is truly the pet owner's responsibility to take care of their pet. That includes sheltering and protecting them. Road kill won't happened to owned pets if they are properly confined.

I don't think that it's anyone's fault. When animals are killed on the road it is probably an accident. It is still sad. On roads where cars don't travel as fast, they may be able to stop for animals to cross but on roads like freeways, there is no way to stop. There are some animals that seem to know to watch for cars. I was at the bus stop once and saw three racoons waiting to cross the road. A car stopped for them but they stood still until all the cars were gone. But still, animals are not like us who were taught to watch out for cars so these tradgic accidents happen more among animals.

Well sometimes it may be fated. Their final destination. It makes me sad though. Roadkills are not pretty sights. It seems so brutal that's why I'm ranting.

The owners of the animals are responsible for this. They should know how to take good care of them within their area. Though the drivers on the road should be sensitive enough to have some consideration with the animals accidentally passing by.

Hi Shavkat! Right it all comes down to responsible pet ownership. Sometimes the drivers have to make a difficult decision to hit the animal or to hit another car or maybe just poor eyesight. In the first place if the animals were confined they would never get hit on the street.
