Good day Fellow Mylotters,
Since I was a child, I started dreaming to have a car. As I saw those people who have it can conveniently go to other places easily. Without the hassle of commuting and dropping at the terminal to ride a provincial bus. Plus, the fact that my Grandmother does not want to do commuting so she seldom visit us in our home. And now, even I am doing my best to have a car but the money that I save to buy one always goes to different expenses. As a result, I still ended up in dreaming to have it. Sometimes, I am thinking, if I really meant to have a car.

wow, you are congratulating me as early as now. perhaps, the time for me to have a car is nearly coming. and i am excited to have that day. to be honest, my very first reason why i would like to have a car is for my mom, as i don't want to see her commuting anymore since she was in her 60's. hence, the way of commuting here in our place is not as convenient like in other countries. i just hope i will get that car which i dreamed of for a long time.

Perhaps someday you will have it since you are saving money. Time will come that you will be finished with all those other things then it's your thing what you will buy next. I used to dream to buy a laptop but other expenses came up so my laptop always moved at the end of my list but time came that I was able to buy my laptop.

hi vernaC,
i do really hope that day to come as i also want to give convenience to my mom and to my sisters. as i want to give them a convenient way of traveling especially my mom who is now at her 60's. hence, i know the feeling of hassle and inconvenience of waiting plus if you will be standing inside a bus. it is really exhausting.

Just continue dreaming, one day you will realize that your dream car be in your hand. Be sure to work hard so that the there's a possibility to have it after a couple of years. If you continue dreaming and didn't work hard, it will turn to nightmare.

Always remember, if there is a will, there is always a way to get that will fulfilled, it may take some time too.
Keeping a car is no more luxury these days, more so if the entire family travell together, but for going alone it is costly lol.
I use my car only when i my wife, kids move together.
Thanks for this discussion.

If you really want to buy a car, then you need to control your expenses because if you wanna gain something then you also have to lose something. I hope in the coming future you will be able to buy a car so that you can avoid the problems faced by your grandmother. Good Luck for your savings.

My boyfriend would rather not have a car and, instead, live in an area where he can just use public transportation. However, he recognizes the necessity of having a car in the region in which we live.
As for me, I am all about having a car. There is no way that I would want to depend on public transportation. I like having control over where I go and when; I also want to control who I have to interact with, and that is something that one really cannot do when using public transportation.

I have a car and I am so young. The problem is that I know how to save, I mean really how to save. It is a very cheap car though and very fuel efficient. I think it cost me roughly the same price and sometimes less to travel using this car than public transportation. Well the insurance carry it a little bit over public transportation cost, but I prefer my own vehicle.
I understand times may come up when you need money but what I do is I keep two savings bucket. Money should not ever come out of one of the buckets but the other bucket you can take out of for emergency. Now what I do is I label one of the buckets "car", and the other just emergency. I put all my funds in the emergency as I am saving then as soon as the emergency funds pass a certain level i take out of the emergency funds and put into the car bucket. You can never take money out of the car bucket for what ever reason. If you need money, you need to take it out of the emergency bucket. When you partition your money like that you have better control over it. Well I have better control over it. I keep a notepad on the car bucket to manage the amount of money i put in there because I will never open the bucket to remove the money and count it. SO as I put another $10 in the bucket, I just add it to the notepad. I will never touch that money again until I finish saving for what I want.
Now I continue to do this until I reach the money for the car. When I reach that money I circle the funds in the notepad and continue saving like that. I will still not remove the money until I have atleast one and a half the price of the car. You see I do not like to start over from zero dollars. It seems harder that way. SO I wait until have one and a half the money or even double the money before I actually use some of the money to buy the car.

Don't worry my friend, be positive and always tell yourself that one day you'll get it and it'll happen. Watch this video, it's a good one:

I think that if you really wanted that car you already had one. Since this is what I call making priorities, having a goal, making sacrifices as well. I Always saved for my children and at a certain point I discussed with them if we should take a car so we can go out for some days, visiting people or not and perhaps save for vacations by airplane. If we would decide for the car it would mean I needed the money I saved for them and had to pay them back (took me 1 year). Which was better as asking money from the bank. So the kids agreed, we bought the car but still with car we had (and have) to be careful. We can't use it for everything since it's not running on water. I also need to pay road tax every month (no matter if I drive it or not), the Insurance, each year the annual check up and all the costs. So we do have a car but it does cost a lot even if you are not driving it. We still walk to the shops, today I took the bike in the freezing cold but we do have kind of freedom which is important to us. If the car is broke I am not able to pay for the repair so it has to go. That is for sure too. If the car is what you want, make a list about what it will cost you and go for it!
