What on EARTH did I do?

Thursday morning I was up a bit early, and so I got up to eat and feed Pong.
Pong was happy I was up early to feed him too.
However, after he ate, he got bored and started getting into places in the room I didn't want him in. Finally, he started into a space and nearly knocked off something that I rescued.
Then I leaned over the side of the chair to pick him up.
I heard a loud "POP" and felt an incredible PAIN in my right side!
I exclaimed so loudly that the roommate halfway across the house came running to see what was wrong.
It hurt and ached, but so long as I didn't lean too far forward or twist I was okay.
Felt a bit better on Friday until I stretched, then it was back in SPADES!
Made an appointment on Monday with my doc, sometimes twinges if I even take a deep breath!
The location is high on my right side, more toward the front.
Any idea what I've done?

I hope you have not seperated anything. It sounds pretty bad. I hope they can tell you something right off, although they will probably end up giving you an MRI, don't you think? I imagine it's going to be hard for you to get any sleep. By the way, are you getting your e-mail notifications? I haven't for days and I contacted mylot last week to no avail.

still no notifications...
Actually, so long as I'm not stretching my side, it doesn't hurt too much if at all, but even closing the car door can hurt...
I leaned over to try and pick up a dropped bead and the pain stopped me, but if I leaned forward rather than to the right side, I was fine.

When you say you're "side" do you mean your side as in your lung or your abdomen? Either way, the things that immediately come to mind are that you pulled an obscure muscle (because the onset seemed because of movement) or there might be a problem with your gallbladder (because that's the organ in that area that likes to cause trouble). But of course, I'm not a doctor or a nurse. I think you should just ask the doctor about it when you see him.

Lol, that's a relief.
I hope the doctor can figure it out for you.

SOunds like you did something to a rib. Pulled it out of place, pulled ligaments holding them in place--something along those lines. It may take a while for it to heal.

Ya, if they don't heal right they will come back and haunt you whenever they can.

Om my gosh that doesn't sound very good, I do hope the doctor can fix that for you and you won't be in pain. Normally what they will probably do is give you some pain med and send you for an Xray. It seems you have probably pulled a muscle but can't be sure of it. If you already have arthritis it might be due to that. My left leg was killing me for awhile before we got some more snow recently.

Someone was mentioning something like this happening to another part of their body, and after xrays they were told that a tendon or ligament (I do not remember which) had slipped over a bone spur when they moved just right and when it came back off it was plucked like a guitar string, more or less and that can be very painful. Let us know what you find out.

Sounds like a recurrence of an old injury to your sternum and I hope that you would make it a point to see your doctor on Monday than trying to second guess here. The fact that these bones are so near your vital organs namely the heart and lungs, I believe it is all the more important for it to be careful checked out in case of a dislocation that could cause an accidental impale on your vitals.
Hope you will get better soon.

The ribs are joined to the sternum via the costal cartilages. If a rib is separated/pulled from a cartilage, you would hear a pop. So that's my armchair diagnosis. I don't think you can fracture a rib without some sort of external trauma being applied. But then again, spontaneous fracture is possible if you have osteoarthritis.
I don't think you'd have heard the pop just through a muscle strain.
I'm glad you immediately made an appointment with your physician. But, for now, ibuprofen or acetaminophen should help with the pain.

Wow, I don't have a clue what it good be. Like others mentioned you could have strained something. I'm glad that you made an appointment to go see your doc. He/she will know what happened and what you can do to relieve the pain. It is frustrating when things like this happened. I know the other day I was caring things out to the car and there was a space in between the grass and concrete and I tripped. I didn't break or spran anything but it hurt and I scrapped up my knee.

At least it's on the right side and not on the left side, otherwise I would worry that it was a heart attack. It's probably a sprained muscle. I'm glad you are making an appointment with a doctor. If it is very uncomfortable, take a mild pain pill. Don't move around too much and take it easy. Sounds like you have an active cat.

It sounds as if you dislocated your hip right there, I think they're going to have to do a close reduction on you, hopefully it tides it. Just don't strain yourself too much, take care.

When I was younger, I would get sharp pains like that. It was really annoying as it was a pain I could literally not put my finger on.
Went to my doc and it turns out I had put my back out, somewhere between my shoulder blades and neck. Luckily, my doctor was also practised in physiotherapy and he would be able to fix me quite easily.
Hope you are fixed by now.

hi ElicBxn it sounds to me like you either br uised a rib badly or you actually broke a rib. Sometimes just moving in an awkard position can bruise a rib. For example I had to retrieve something under my bed once so go down on my stomach and in reaching for it I heard a pop and oh such pain,As long as I did not twist or move to fast it was bearable. My doctor had me xrayed and no breaks just a bad bruise. But years late I stumbled over a cement car stop at our friends apartment and fell.Again I felt this loud pop and no question I had broken a rib.,Xrays proved that but my doctor says they no longer tape you up. You just have to avoid making it worse. takes six weeks for it to really stop hurting I found that I could actually sleep better with less pain by lying on that side.

Ouch! I'm not certain what you did, but it sounds rather unpleasant.
It's good that you have an appointment for Monday to see your doctor. Hopefully, whatever the deal is, it is something relatively minor and quick to heal.

It sounds painful, you should definitely see a doctor and find out what's wrong.. I hope it is just a muscle and not something serious. Sometimes it happens to me as well, after a sudden movemement to feel pain but it is goes away after a few hours. If you arr still in pain you should check it out.
