Is bringing up old discussions a bad thing?

Sometimes I run out of discussions that interest me so I go back to old discussions some dating 6-7 years back and find something that I can relate to. I don't want to re use the idea and make a new discussion about it because its already been done so I just respond to it anyway. It's amazing as to how far the tags on each discussion can bring you.
Is that a bad thing? Do people get annoyed when other users do that?

I see no reason why you should not respond to old discussions. I also do not see why you could not add new data to old discussions and post them. This is not taking someone else's thunder unless it is a post that is only a few days old. Most old posts never resurface because there are very few folks like you who go back and research them...

This was brought up when I stumbled upon a discussion of a mylotted who was angry about people who respond to discussions around 6-7 years back. And there was even a response on there saying that you cannot repeat old discussions. I felt bad because I knew in myself that I do it too, and this is the first forum I've been a member yo so I'm not quite very familiar with their rules.

hi again that was not very nice of that my lotter as a lot of us
are still here and were new six years ago. You can sure respond to and comment on old discussions and who is he or she to say what you
can or cannot do here in our mylot.

It just got me curious thats all. Ah yes, nobody should command anybody with what they should do with their lives. I think it's rude to try to force them too.

I have never really responded to old discussions like that, not that old anyway but maybe it would be fun. I don't see why anyone would be mad about it. And it might make others join in on the discussion again too. I don't see any harm done there. =)

There was just this other mylotter who seemed quite annoyed that old discussions got brought up back to life and then those discussions unfortunately broke a rule in the guidelines so they end up getting deleted. And then I saw this guy from another forum saying its annoying how new users go to very old discussions and bring them back to the top of the list by responding to them. the discussions that relate to people deserve to be brought back, they were original ideas too which were unfortunate to have attention on them die down.

sorry, I didn't notice that you posted a similar discussion a day ago and I kept this one on my notebook for sometime. I was planning on posting this when the notifications were back on but then I had nothing else left to do so I posted it anyway. Will read through your discussion. And comment too. happy mylotting

It's not bad. I don't think anyone minds us returning to old discussions at all.

We can't always please everyone, that is for sure. That is something we also have to accept. Don't worry though, you are not the only one who is in that state. It's natural I think for people to worry about those things.

It's ironic of me to keep telling others o be theirselves and everything when clearly I'm not being myself for being too cautious with what i communicate with people lol. Especially if they're hotshots.

I hope so,I'm just a paranoid freak trying to please a lot of people. Apparently when you try to please everyone, no one gets pleased.

There's nothing wrong with bringing up those older discussions. If someone has a problem with it then ignore them. We can do that and we get paid for it just as we would for the new ones. Its a good idea too, using the search reaps rewards. The topics in there can be fun and we will all benefit to read them if they're enjoyable.

I've never tried getting rewards from using the search tabs. I want to though, it seems good, do you get the reward from searching at a certain number of times?

Not a lot of people can be brave enough to be transparent and have a candid version of themselves for everyone to see. That's true though, in here, there are no judgements, things I like about mylot.

I never really been a situation like this but i dont expect it to be bad to bring up a old topic as long as you left it on a good note . Hey A conversation is a conversation .

I once planned to check my old discussions and give out the best response, but I find it cost too much time and energy. I think some of my discussions are quite interesting, but few people take care of it.
I think daily topics are always popular and people in different time will have different ideas on it. So taking them back you can see the chance of people.

I don't think bringing up old discussions is bad if it's helpful to the current discussion. I've seen people link old discussions all the time.

I don't get annoyed, especially if it's a very good topic to talk about. I don't think good stuff ever gets old. I do get annoyed with issues that have already been clear-cut resolved but some people just won't give it a rest and twist words of others.

omg! That is so true! I guess something would only be old to you if the quality isn't as good anymore, but discussion quality never gets ok, ideas don't get old, ideas are forever. I observe that with trends as well, t hey bring back old Tyler's in fashion and old ways if they still work. Then it all becomes new again.
I get why you get annoyed, I think I would be annoyed too if something has already been cleared up and then people keep on asking about it, if that happened, it point them out to an old discussion too.

It is no problem with me. As long as the discussions still have interest on me, I will response to those discussions. I just enjoying to discuss anything here, whether it is new or old discussion. I will not e annoyed when others have responded to my old discussions.

I think I will actually like it if the people did respond to my old discussions, especially the ones which had very low responses. When they get really low responses, I feel like people hate my brains and all. But then if it gets brought up back again, it redeems itself, and it feels good.

personally, its quite okay. Specially to newbies like me. You said, "how far the tags on each discussion can bring you". That means co-myLotters buy the idea of bringing up old discussions, right. You made a right thing in here.In this way also, we can avoid to own something that has been owned by others in the past.Thumbs up!

Hello kiepher, welcome to mylot!!
Hmm, it looks like if your new, everything is old anyway haha, so it will be inevitable to go ack to what was old, I got my foundation on old discussions as well when I was new like you a month ago. But look how hooked I am to mylot. Haha!

I've only just joined so it won't make much difference to me if there are old discussions around because I wasn't around when they were posted and it's all new to me. I can see how some people, if they WERE around when the discussion was active the first time, may be very slightly annoyed. I imagine most people are newer than that though and even if people WERE around back then, would they remember if it was 7 years ago? hehe. If it's not against the rules I wouldn't worry.

You make very good points lisacope. I guess they would get annoyed because they've seen it before and I guess when you've seen everything, it becomes boring? Hmm? I hope I'm making sense. But I get you, I get you very well. Welcome to mylot by the way, I hope you enjoy your stay here.

Nope, it's not a bad thing. Just like starting discussions that are similar to others isn't a bad thing. Okay so it may state in the do's and don't not to do the latter, but with so many discussions (new and old) on here, it's bound to happen from time to time. So long as you make discussions from your own thoughts you should be fine.
As for others being annoyed by it, I can't say. However, I for one am not. I even reply to them myself sometimes.
Happy mylotting!

They say everything has already been thought out by everyone at least once. And besides if topics weren't repeated, there wouldnt be such thing us related discussions connected by the tags. To be honest, I dont really know what is it that made it annoying. I want to know as well why they could be annoyed with it.

I do this too sometimes. When I'm searching for answers here on mylot, like reviews and feedbacks about some websites that I want to try out, I always search on mylot discussion and some are 5 years old discussions, But I still response to them if I have something to say about it. I don't think that it's a bad thing. There's nothing wrong with it anyway and we can still earn from it so why not.

Knowledge new or old is still knowledge and they shouldnt be taken for granted just because they of their age. And it's good too to look at old discussions for that as they enlist experiences, experiences happen in the past. It's nice too if you'll know a bit of history about the site so you'll know if you will invest on it or not

This is something that I have done in the past as well and I will say that it is great as there are loads of interesting discussions that people started years ago.
I have often answered a few and I will say even though the people who started them may not be on here any more some times other people respond to our responses.

Yes, it kind of feels good too, when you respond to a 6 year old discussion and they reply back. It's like talking to ancients (well okay not ancients) but it sure feels like it.

When I find nothing within my line of interest in current topics I search old ones and have fun reading for there are plenty of interesting old posts. However I just started responding to one lately and just another one for a two years old post yesterday. For me Mylot is just not earning but fun as well. Don't get affected by by someone's not so nice reaction here, just enjoy what you are doing.

Hi friend, there is nothing wrong in replying old topics, i too do the same thing if i don't find any interesting topics in mylot. As you mentioned you are not interested in remaking the old topics, that's great. There is no use in discussing about the same thing again and again.

You make very good points. I didn't realize that there are actually a lot of people who dig up discussions, I thought I was the only freak who does that haha. That's true too about discussing things over and over again. I don't think it will get as much responses as the one before it since its been an issue before

That's a possibility too, since I don't think they would be brought up back again if they weren't interesting enough.
