We all now all sorts of politicians will be running this election. Some people have opponents and others will sail very fairly since they have none. I guess that means they win by default since nobody is putting an effort to run against them. It’s kinda sad but I don’t know how to read this situation. Is it fear that nobody wants to run against or it is a testament to the incumbent’s or aspiring candidate’s skills that he doesn’t have any opponents?

Thanks for your two cents and yes,I agree that at least, the candidates shoudl at least be high above the rest and they enjoy the confidence of their people

Candidates with no opponent will not just sail through or be immediately declared the winner by default... he/she still needs the 50% + 1 votes of the total population of registered voters... so if the people are wise enough and they know that that person do not deserve the position... then all they need to do during election time is do nothing but stay at home and wait for the DILG to appoint an OIC...

I see, thanks for painting that scenario for us. I guess, it will be less hectic compared to a full-length campaign but people still need to vote in his/her favor.

We can't really tell if that uncontested politician is very good at what he's doing or if he's really a notorious crooked person. I guess it depends on where this uncontested person is running and what the history of that place is. If this place reeks of political killings then there's no doubt the incumbent politician is involved in it. There are cases wherein the politician is so good that the people would love for him/her to run again or at least one of their kin.

Agree. It's a case to case basis. It can be good or the bad scenario.

It happen in some other areas wherein the incumbent officials run the community for people sake. Why people wants to remove them from office if they know that the official doing their best to give them what they need. Do they need to replace an evil officials?
But if the officials are corrupt they deserve to be oust of the office and throw into the garbage can

Perosnally, my opinion is that is the people want to retain them for their good service and continuation of that quality of service (sometimes some politicians took credit for otehr people's work), then it's their decision. It's a case to case basis. But I think some new blood in the office with the same goals and passion can also do a remarkable good job.
Your second statement gets my approval.

Both he might be a hoodlums with armed men and others are afraid to die if will go against him or he is making good of his promised to the people if not approachable and is down to earth in dealing with his constituents.

Depends on the areas, I suppose. Some places have no violence but a lot of enthusiasm for the vote. others have been declared hot spots or trouble areas.

I am from China and I'd like to say it's too normal in chinese election, since our chairman is never elected by citizen, no competition and no opponents.

Well, i am not familiar with the Chinese govenrment and its system but I think your country has been ruled by one party n a long long time. But do you think that the Chinese people would like to vote?

I cannot say to those places where there are no opposing candidates. I have no idea how the place is organized. But mostly, the places where there are uncontested candidates are the ones that are ruled by either tyrant one or a very strong contender that no one has dared to go against that leader. I can see in my place here in San Juan, Metro Manila that even though there are some who dares to oppose the Estrada family they seem like they are just dummy just to show that they have an opponent but in the end the voters would not have a choice but vote for the Estrada's since their opponent would not even attempt to campaign for himself there so we can see the result to be favorable to the ruling family.

never heard of a dummy candidate. But I guess that serves their purposes - just a good appearance for the outsiders and not exactly the voting population.

Here in our province, we have two uncontested candidates for the election. One is for mayor and the other one is for the governor.
The one running for Mayor was the former Mayor. He have to let his wife be the mayor the past years, because he was over his term. But this time, he run again but uncontested . As to the governor, he is still the encumbent one.
Well, as for me i know that are so fitted for the positions, because they have done many improvements for the province.

I guess that the bottom line for most people. Let us just hope that the people do take that kind of things hen they vote. I guess the perks of being uncontested in an election is time and money saver for those in the position.
