...better info on the web or from a book?

I am starting to delve into investments and i am wondering which is the better way to acquire information - a book on the subject or from online. I know that searching online is probably cheaper and more updated but I still have my doubts about the info super highway. My beef is with too much information and hardly variable info they posts on many sites. i know there is a wealth of info over there but I might get frustrated in searching for the best info or some random snippet that had been shared to ad infinite. I would like to buy a book on one but I am asking myself whether it is such a good investment in the long run.
Any suggestions?

I do tend to use both. But, I admit, that I still see books as being more reliable.

Usually, I start on books or online. What I read on the both is good but I tend to confirm it online and see if there is new info about the topic.

This is true. I also use both. I have Kindle ebooks and have mini-library and it seems real books are more reliable so I used them together. Books are more detailed.

There are topics about business that available only from books. I was entrepreneur student at that time, though some points are written on the net still we are dependent on the books. New ideas can be found online to add the explanation of a certain topics. We both used books and internet.

I think I will get started on the book first just to gain knowledge and master the concept. It is kinda a textbook - like material that I am and I really need to master the basics. Online info is also fine but I was somewhat overwhelmed by the info.

Hi jeanneyvonne, I like acquiring info surfing net. I know most of the info and knowledge from book might be obsolete, for it takes considerable time to prepare, print and publish We then can get it from the market. Getting latest info online always is the best and handy way for me. Having the url saved I can refer at any time I wish
Happy posting

Not always the best, in my own experience. some facts are not exactly facts but opinions. Also, the web is one place where you can find two conflicting opinions which have seemingly no way of resolution. There is also the problem of the lack of detail or too much of it.

hi jeanneyvonne,
I think that a book is better than reading something online. It is true that we can read many information in the internet but not all of them are reliable. There are some sites who give information based on their opinion. We are not sure if that opinion is a fact or not.So, I think that a book is much better.

Reliability is somewhat a big factor in my issue.I mean,I am dealing with money here so I better get the best material (or the second one for the price ) out there. I agree that both mediums have their own good points and better use together.

howdy! you will never regret that you bought a book, girl. books are good investments and the information that are inside them are reliable but of course you have to choose good books, those which have ISBN number, copyright and a credible writer. Information in the internet are good too but for me, books are the best.

That's a good point. and i think they will last, if I need to brush upon something. The internet is good but sometimes for me, it's too much and too taxing to find a credible source.

I think it depends what you want to research. I tend to think that using a combination of both books AND the internet probably gives the best results. I don't think you could learn everything just via the internet (depending on the subject of course) because websites can't possibly go into enough detail. Like you said though, some books are out of date, and they're only usually by one author so you want a range of authors... so yeah, I would combine the two and see what happens.

I think it is the best combine, with the correct books and websites, of course.

I think that here on the internet you might get up to the minute information where a book might become outdated. A book on the basics might be good by a reknowned author in the known profession. Rather than that I think the internet is your best bet. The book will probably give you some sites to check out as well.

Nowadays, that seems to be the trend. I guess even books cannot compete when it comes to immediacy that the internet does.

I think that when it comes down to it that I would prefer to get information out of a book but getting information from a book is much more difficult than getting it off the internet. You can just type in exactly what you are looking for in a search bar and be able to find it specifically whereas most books aren't specified to one single issue or topic.
Internet information however can be unreliable and biased and that's why I think books would be better to get more reliable information out of.

I agree that internet and using the web is a convenience but I also get the typical too much information state. I am glad that there is a wealth of knowledge out there and it is easily accessed. One of my problems is gettign to one resource and somewhere ( a blog or a website) which content I can understand. I am only a beginner, you see.

I believe that the information that you can get from both a book and the internet are fairly equal. Information on the web can be obtained faster than reading a book but I don't think that one is beter than the other.

Thanks.I think they are both important, depending on the use and purpose of the information.

Books are stagnant as far as knowledge goes but Internet upgrades every moment so to say. For me the Internet is where I go to learn but I am selective as not everything that is out there could be right. Selecting the genuine sites is an art and for that one should go for sites that are endorsed by authoritative bodies. For example if I want to know something on health I feel Mayo Clinic could be the site that dishes out correct information.

I wish could master the art of selecting sites. With so many sites offering the same information and everybody's an expert, it's easy to be used even in this age. Mayo Clinic is an excellent resource . I have yet to find the same kind for investments.

It depends on the kind of book if it's worth the money (how often will you use it?). I think if it comes to the info books are better, on the internet you will find a lot of nonsese since it's open to everybody. Also people without less knowledge, without any education, who did not do any research or just copy what they hears somewhere once or what they think it might be the truth. Still you can find plenty of good info on the internet as well as long as you take the time to invest what you find/read yourself. Don't believe the first sites/info's you read, do your research ask questions about it look for the why, how or what. The fact 40 people say exactly the same about 1 subject doesn't mean it's true as well. they all can copy it from what they once learned from an old book or did copy it from someone else(s site). Look if there are new interviews, testresults, more up to date. Since there Always will be and this means that opinions about how/what are changing or it's proved it can be completely different as the biggest part of the world thinks it is.

I think I will use it for a long time. It's a new field and I might get back to it as often as I need to. Kinda like a textbook.
That was basically what my concerns ar Also, they tend to use jargon on the internet. I am novice so I need to elan form the ground up.
I was banking on the book because I kinda trust that it was written by a knowledgeable person in that industry. I think that no publisher would waste resources on some topic without professional backing or person who don't know what they are writing. Also,I have to agree that sometimes people tell opinions as if they are facts.

hi! forme its much better if you buy the book instead because they won't publish the book if its full of nonsense. finding answers in the internet is not good because some informations is not true and almost many lies. so for me buying books much better.

Books first, internet later = much better approach. But don't forget teh golden rule- don't always blindly believe what you read.

In general I have found in this day and age that internet research has yielded far better results for me than hard copy books. The key to it is checking your source to be sure it is a credible one.

I have to agree. But I'm starting on basics first. I have yet to find a site that caters to that qualification and still be creditable.

I rather go over the traditional way of researching which is from book sources, because it’s quite more in depth and detailed compared to internet sources wherein you aren’t quite sure if you have all the information you need since the internet does have more and less information on some subject matter.
