Tonight I am going to watch Downtown Abbey, I look forward to the next episode every week. I find it very interesting from a historic point of view, hearing old songs, seeing the furniture of the time and mostly the social attitudes prevalent in recent history. How things have changed! Fancy calling someone 'my lady' and frequently using the phrase 'it is not my place to say' meaning my opinion cannot be given for reasons of my low social standing!
I am watching one of the earlier episodes at present, so please don't give away any of the plot when you replty! It would spoil the pleasure of anticipation for me.
I enjoy the acting and the script and am so pleased that it won an award.

You have excellent tastes my friend, I love Downton Abbey, haven't missed a single episode and because it's set in my country I have seen every single episode and can't wait for the next series. I love Dame Maggie Smith she is a wonderful actress and always makes me laugh with her remarks. I don't usually like period dramas, apart from Heartbeat but I was well and truly hooked from the start of the first episode. The Christmas specials are superb. You won't be disappointed at the storylines to come my friend ;0) Without a single spoiler as requested!

That show sounds interesting. I have not watched it yet, but it sounds very interesting. I know about the class system. My maternal grandmother grew up in England, and then you never associated with people who were not of your class. But it does sound interesting. I will have to find out when it is on.
I will not give away the plot.

I love that show too. The storytelling is very good. I usually like watching period pieces because I can learn something that a text book could never teach. I can also follow the story much better when its told and not just presented. Watching Downton Abbey is like reading a book. The characters come to life better than I could read them.

i watched some of the first season but find it hard to keep up. i have gotten some books out of the library on the show which was interesting. i love history and love that the show takes place around real world events at that time such as the sinking of the Titanic and World War One and the way that women's roles changed during that time period. on the more girly side, i love the clothes and the jewelry! lol
i have been caught up in a Canadian show that is almost the same idea and takes place during World War Two and is called Bomb Girls.

I started watching that show by accident a couple of months ago and love it! I saw a special about the real Downton Abbey where they film it, an Earl and his wife live there and they do keep a few rooms out of the camera's eye. It's one way that they are able to maintain such a huge house!
I have 2 episodes waiting for me to watch, this week's and the week before.
The attitudes of that era are maddening to me at times, like the way that most people won't give poor Ethel a chance now that she's become a "decent" woman again. It's little wonder that once you failed back then, you remained a failure.

Well, I tell you frankly that I am not fond of television series. However I saw a recent production of Italian-Argentine. A mix of Italian and foreign actors. It ran for about two months and I wanted to follow all the episodes. I know that from me, in Italy make many television series. But they do not attract my interest.
