Potatoes lost - who could have taken it?

Two days ago I boiled 4 very small potatoes to have for my dinner. I decided that I only wanted 3 of them because they were very small. When I was cleaning up after I ate I put one in a paper towel and put it on the back of the stove thinking I'll put it in the refrigerator when the kitchen is all cleaned up. Well, I forgot about it and it sat on the stove. The next morning when I got up I remembered it and went in the kitchen to get it. It was gone! It was one of those small ones about the size of a golf ball. This morning I woke up and saw the potatoe in the middle of the living room floor...obviously a little bit of it had been eaten! As usual my cats saw me looking at it both of them looked like they were saying "don't blame me"...lol. Who else would I blame! What's the strangest thing your cat has ever stolen and hidden from you? How long did it take for it to come out into the open for you to find?

Wow, that's hilarious! I do know that Mum's previous cats would leave her 'presents' i.e. mice in her shoes and she wouldn't find out about it until she put her feet in them.

Not particularly although he did have very long legs for a cat. We had to have him put down as arthritis got so bad in his legs he could hardly move. So sad after seeing him playing with his friends outside on a daily basis. He absolutely loved the outdoors and he started off as an indoor cat at a flat I lived in, initially. When I brought him home to Mum's the first thing he did was sniff the air at the back door..and he was off! He was affectionate when he came in though and never, EVER scratched. I miss him (and my other cats) to this day. He was only 12 when he was put down which is no age at all for a cat to die.

Cats get into everything they can get their little paws on. I'm starting to be very careful with things I leave around that might peak their interest.

Obviously they haven't developed their acquired taste for potatoes, otherwise it would have disappeared completely! When I lived with my ex we had 4 cats the youngest Octavia was always stealing things, and Christmas time she was on top form, she was always at the Christmas tree pawing the decorations within reach and then chasing them around the room! I remember it was about April or May I was doing a big clean and I had found a few decorations from the tree that Octavia had obviously hidden or played with until she got bored and found something else to play with!

I'm still shocked that my two never really took anything from my tree or knocked it over. I almost didn't put a tree because of them. I guess your right....they don't like potatoes.

Your story is funny. Cats can do the silliest things, can't they? My cat is a rescue so I don't know what she did before I got her. She was 4 yrs at the time and now is 7 yrs. She doesn't get up on the cabinets, furniture, etc so I don't find potatoes and other foodstuff missing. The things that she plays with are chiefly her toys. She'd rather I keep a cardboard box out for her to sleep in than her bed when I am not in the bedroom. She has to be in whatever room I am in.

My cats seem like they would rather play with anything except their toys. ONce in awhile I will see them playing them but they would rather play with boxes I keep around just for them.

My cats say that they never do such things. One of my feline nieces used to swipe raw potatoes from the kitchen so that she could play with and chew on them. She is a petite cat, and she would be there rolling huge baking potatoes around. Strange cat...

lol....they'll play with just about anything I guess. but my cats obviously don't like potatoes that are cooked. who knows what would have happened if it was raw!

I guess they got hungry in the middle of the night. They might have started to play with it, then take a bite. Very funny.. Have a super day there...

I wasn't sure but had an idea that they were going on top of my stove. Now I know...yes they are which is why I'm always cleaning it and finding little black hairs that belong to them

Your cats must have loved your potatoes. Do they usually observe you cooking? Is your living room floor carpeted, tiled or floored?

One of my parents cats used to love small plastic items, that included the adaptor for my headphones and even some of my wargaming models, they would disappear for weeks on end only to be found behind boxes, cases etc where the cat had decided to sleep that night :)

They have actually taken an entire headset, the small earbud type and I never found them. I know their somewhere in this apartment. I'll just have to wait for them to drag them out from somewhere.
