Fleas, camels and parking tickets

You may have occasionally seen me use the insult "may the fleas of a thousand camels infest their armpits". Perhaps you are wondering where that one came from. I Googled it, and it is actually all over the internet in various forms. But this is where I got it from - a fake parking ticket. I was still in school when my dad came home with it. It was made up to look more or less like a real one, and the intention was for you to put it on the windshield of cars that were hogging two parking spaces. I don't remember the exact wording of it, but it made some pretty insulting remarks about the person's parking ability, consideration for others, etc. And it ended with that insult. I lost the parking ticket years ago. I don't remember the verbiage on it. I can't find the exact one online. But I will never forget the insult. So there you have it.

Interesting history as to where you got that 'curse' from. I remember you saying it in your discussion about hackers. Where I used to live I got fed up with cars parking in my space, so I concocted up an official looking letter which I left on the windscreen saying, if you park here again, you will be fined £200, this is private parking. Seemed to do the trick.

I saw that for the first time in some mail order catalogue or other a long time ago. Can't remember the exact one but they sell gag gifts and one of the things they sell is that fake parking ticket. I always thought it was cute but, when I come across a parking space hog, if I'm going to give them something that is fake, I'd much rather put a fake "scratch" down the side of their car, you know, like a vinyl stick-on thingie. REALLY freak 'em out.

Or even a fake puddle of puke. I like it, it goes beyond words. Hits them in the gut.

Fake dog poop? I've seen fake parking tickets online, but never one with exactly that wording.

I LOVE the fake puke idea! Fake or not, that would totally ruin my day if I saw that on my car! Fake dog poop? How about REAL dog poop! Of course, I wouldn't want to be carrying around real dog poop in the off-chance I'd see a parking hog who needed to learn a lesson.

My erstwhile hubby got one of those tickets but I don't remember the wording either. As for the fleas... I remember Klinger saying it on M*A*S*H, but I think it predates that.

First time I remember hearing that curse was in a Johnny Carson routine on the Night Show. But it is one of those that is memorable and worth using. I'm disabled and I may borrow your father's idea about the parking ticket. I cannot tell you how many times I've wanted to do something on my own about people parking in handicapped designated spaces when there has been tons of available parking for them to use. Especially teenagers who seem to think it is funny and laugh when a person with a cane, or in a wheelchair is inconvenienced by their selfish act. I also "invent" words and phrases for things rather than the normal cuss words. My favorite is "gritch," a combination of gripe and of course the all time favorite female dog name. I use it with people who are notorious for half a** jobs of complaining constantly about nothing that truly matters. They are gritching!!! Thanks for the discussion!

It's one thing when a disabled person who doesn't look disabled uses a handicapped space, but when somebody who isn't does that and thinks it's funny?

I like it. It is so much more descriptive than the typical swear word laden comment. And you will not get bleeped for it. I wonder, having been to a small zoo today, if the fleas of a thousand camels are anything like the gnats of a resting llama. It is not even hot, but the "barnyard animals" were often surrounded by clouds of hovering no seeums.

Our guys have more vulgar things to say....like in the west and many parts of our country ...being addressed as a mother is considered to be respecting the woman. But out here in my state...if a woman is addressed as a mother..it imports a bad meaning...that woman had secsual relation with the parent of the person mouthing such stuff...horrid thing. Completely reducing motherhood to secsual stuff..so it becomes a bit difficult to understand the implied insults out here..unless you have stayed here for long.

lovely... I was going to send this to a certain friend to point out that in some cultures addressing a woman as mother is a sign of respect (ongoing argument), but she'd just glom onto the other explanation.

They say "na kodka", meaning you are my son...implying I had secsual relation with your mother..eeek...it is to be interpreted in that way because it is only used as an abusive stuff...when the person is angry or annoyed or is threatening.

Yes...it is..you will find a lot of respect given to women by Tamilians, and Bengalis. To a certain extent even by Maharashtrians. But if you come to Telugu people, it is looked down. Check Sarathchandra's novels. And Rabindra Nath Tagore's novels. You will realize how women were put on pedestal and still are.

So, that's where you got it! It's very effective though. It makes anybody who hears it/or reads it go 'Eeww!'. That parking ticket is a good idea. I've seen a few people around here near where I work park un-imaginatively, without consideration for others. Maybe a ticket like this, on their windshields could get them flapping their arms up!

Hilarious that you should post this discussion today. I went to the Department of Human Services this morning and as I was looking for a spot, I noticed an available one but the car on the right to it was sideways making it impossible to get in there. I almost wanted smack the person who did that should I have seen who owns it walk up to the vehicle.

It's a goodie. I found a spectacular website a while ago where people could post pictures of other people's bad parking. Some had also posted photos of the notes they had left the drivers. Absolutely hysterical :) Wish I could remember what it was called.

How funny. I really wish that you did still have the fake parking ticket and that you were able to share a photo of the fake parking ticket because it is something that I believe I would be able to make good use of when I go out to do my shopping. It definitely does seem to me that there are more people in our area that are unable to park in a single parking spot than there are people that are actually able to use just one parking spot when they are out at the store.
