I am nominated but I do not want to run

I have been consistently nominated every year for audit committee of our employees cooperative. And for 10 years, I also have been the top in the General Assembly elections.
This year, there were lots of issues experienced in our cooperative, and I see it because majority of our Board of Directors are irresponsible or are very lax in putting plans into actions. They have plenty of plans and resolutions, I applaud them for that. But none of those plans were materialized. And to think they are the same group voted already for 2 years. But if you have to evaluate their performance, they really get a failed score. Most of them ran into position just because of the honorarium, and the opportunities to travel. They even approved non-educational travel to Hong Kong, and they chose themselves to be the participants. It was actually only a packaged trip offered by an affiliate cooperative. Good that the members have stopped them. And the Chairman has no strong stand in his decisions. Yes he approves on requests, but if his approval will be questioned, he will immediately withdraw his decision. Because of that, the other officers will be forced to face the members and explain. I got tired of having these kind of people in the organization. So I decided I will resign. But since the next election is coming, I said to myself I will not run anymore.
The Election Committee came over to me this morning, and asked for my confirmation if I will accept the nomination as Audit officer. I said I will not run anymore. But he insisted and showed me the result of the nomination that I am the top nominee and I never expected that I get that big number of nominations.
Now I am confused... I already have decided even months ago that I will not run into any position anymore. But now that I've seen people still trust me to stay, I am confused if I will push through with my decision. Even the Election Committee didn't accept my refusal. They gave me until next week to think about it.
And I have known just now that a friend of mine confirmed to run in the same committee, she said it is because she knew that I will also run.
I am really confused now...

Maybe they saw your capacity and ability to handle those matters that the previous one didn't do right. It's another opportunity for you and you should also think not for yourself but for the welfare of the whole group or team. I understand that you don't want headache but if your decision can make all things right. Why not?

I still have not decided if I will run or not, but thinking of what you have said leads me to accept the nomination and just to continue serving them. It is not definite anyway if the same people from the BODs will win this time... I just wish the members will assess that properly. Thanks!

you're right... I should think of the welfare of the whole group and not only myself... But there are just times where you feel that you are useless when you get no support from the higher-ranking officers. But nevertheless, we still can do something despite of those... Thank you for reminding me that.

Hi, friend, congratulate you on your noninations. People trust you, and you are doing so well, why not just stay? And also you can run together with you friend. It's a good thing, I think.

Thanks. that is what I am also considering now... My decision of resigning came up because of the Board of Directors. All committee activities are affected because of them. Because they are the decision-making body. But since their decisions are not firm, we also feel like we are not sure if we proceed with our plans or not. Because once they withdraw their approval, we are being left hanging.
But anyway, one thing that came in my mind is that their terms will already end... Though they are allowed to run for the position again. That is what I am worrying. If they will win again...
But thanks for your insight. It makes me think otherwise and consider the good side of serving our cooperative.

If you think that you can make a difference and do a great job, why not reconsider. The people likes you and has their trust in you. So what if one of your friends will also run? Should your friendship be ruined just because you competed for the same post? This should be a healthy competition for everyone. If you are still worried, talk to your friend about your desire to be of help to the cooperative and that whoever wins, the other should give support and be happy.

Well then, accept it and if you win, good for you but if you will be not be efficient, it will be their fault.
