Earthquake

India

Today I was video-chatting with a friend in Davao, Philippines; I suddenly saw her chair shaking and the books, dolls kept in the shelf nearby falling; it lasted for about a minute today at noon Philippine’s time. She told me it was an earthquake; she is acquainted with it; she didn't look afraid at all. Had I been there I would have run out, I was in Davao in 2004 but never seen any earthquake. In India I live in a city that is supposed to be ‘earthquake-free’; I had experienced very mild earthquake once in 1956 and another in 1980. What about, have you ever experienced earthquakes, do you feel afraid? Do you go out of home? Please respond and share your experience. Thanks in advance. Professor Dr. B.Saraf. PhD. Cheers have a lucky day ahead.

Hi there Professor2010, I have experienced earthquakes way back 1990's when the volcano then called Mt.Pinatubo errupted. Our place was at Bataan and it was near Pampanga where Mt.Pinatubo is located.Just imagine the earthquake and after shocks every after 3 minutes plus the thunder and ligtning. It rained for days and everywhere you go was flooded and there was mud everywhere.Electricity was cut short and so as our water supply too.We had difficulty in finding food to eat.And our health and hygiene was put to test because of lack of important commodities that time.I thought it was the end of the world then.I am having goosebumps while recalling those memories hahaha

In Tokyo, there aren't many earthquakes as I'd imagined. There are only a few minor shakes here and there, nothing to disrupt anything. But every once in a while comes a medium one, like 4 on the Richter scale. One was Magnitude 4 and lasted for at least a minute. Freaked us out.

I live in the Philippines but another part of the Visayas, a bit nearer to Davao but I didn't feel any earthquake. Maybe there was but I just did not feel it. It probably happened only in Davao.

Hi Prof ! yes in us here we felt that shaking but so slow only and in seconds . Previous year numerous earthquake we experienced but funny thing was some earthquake i wasn't able to notice because i was busy with online stuff. The strongest that we have last year was 5.6 and lasted for 3 seconds. I have seen tables moved , monitor , chairs and the floor was moving and all members in the family felt dizzy and nauseated . We all were so nervous. Times like this ,reminds us to be calm always , have presence of mind and to pray to God. Good in India you less experienced earthquake , flood and storm not like our country. God bless the world.

Hi there Professor! How are you doing? And how is your friend doing? i hope she is okay and that she is not harmed. I have never seen any news yet about the incident especially that it has happened today... i am on the tv since i got home this afternoon. I have had my experience already of a few earthquakes, last one was when i was at work and the building shook for a few minutes. It was scary because we felt as thought the shaking will never stop anymore. It was intensity 6 then and since we were in 23rd floor we really felt the building shook, and we just had to stay put and hold the table, since it was shaky, it has made us feel dizzy! he he but I am happy that it was not really dangerous that no one was hurt at the time. I think the last was when there was earthquake here in the Philippines in BAGUIO and many were affected and many lives have been lost... always pray and hope that it would never happen again.

This earthquake in Philippines is a 6.2 earthquake. That is a big one. I know it, because I live among earthquakes as you know, Bhuwar. I hope everyone is alright: it much depends on where and how it was and how house are built. I run out to my garden when there is an earthquake, but I`m very lucky as to have a safe place where to run. CNN says that no big damages have been reported yet in Philipphines.

The last time that I actually felt an earthquake where we live was actually when I was still a child. I was in the bathroom at the time and when things started falling off of the shelves onto my head, I have to admit that I was quite scared. However, that has been many years ago and it is only a memory in my head. We were always taught as children that if an earthquake was to occur that we were to get under something strong and cover our heads and necks with our arms to protect them.

i am really afraid in this earthquake because no one will survive if the intense will be in 8 and above,it will really shake your house and even the road, the earthquake who damaged many things in my country was the earthquake of 1990,and my mother told me that she placed me in the middle of the farm.

When I came to Greece I experienced my first earthquake. It was at night, I heard a noise and then the bed kind of shivered, it took some time before I realised that it had been an earthquake. The second one was also slight but all the workmen at my house rushed out quickly. When I lived in England there was one in the night. My husband woke up and heard the windows rattle. He was the only person I met who realised that it was an earthquake - but he came from Greece and knew the symptoms!

She is one brave girl, I would have been afraid as well. There's only one earthquake back in the Philippines that I have ever experienced and it was way back when I was in grade school. Since we regularly have earthquake drills at school (our country being in the Pacific ring of fire), me and my little sister ducked by the bamboo chair with our hands over the back of our necks. My mom came thundering down from the second floor to kneel beside us. It was intensity 8 I think and known as the 1990 Killer Quake. I am still afraid of earthquakes. I don't think I will be very used to it.

Here in the Philippines, we are used already to experience those mild earthquakes. It is unpredictable. Sometimes, it strikes in the midnight while sleeping, sometimes in the afternoon during class, sometimes, while eating also or even at idle time when watching television. For us, an earthquake is just a normal phenomena in here because we are near the what they so called "ring of fire". Good thing, you have a friend here Professor.
