He tells me helps with blood pressure and heart troubles.

Couple of days back I have read this article in newspaper that stated that regular use of aspirin can dramatically increase the risk of an eye diseases that cause blindness.
What your dr has said is also right as it keeps blood pressure and heart troubles away .

Aspirin, among its other attributes, is a blood thinner. For people who have already had a heart attack or a stroke, one 325mg aspirin per day may be recommended. For preventive measures, one baby aspirin (± 80mg) per day is recommended.
You've got to be careful with taking any kind of blood thinning medications without a doctor's advice. Aspirin especially works differently on different people.

a low dosae of aspirin or what used to be called baby aspirin is most beneficial as it prevents tyhe blood from clotting thus helping or preventing the person from having a heart attack. This actually saved my life last year as I have taken it daily for over twenty years and it prevented me from having a stroke or a heart attack even though I ended up having two open heart surgeries. However, this should only be taken under a doctor's supervision.

No - this is too much UNLESS your Dr. so advises. In the U.K. they use a low dose of 75mg and in the USA and elsewhere they use 80mg. Heart diseazse killed off so many relatives in my family that I begun to take it on my own at 40 years of age. My son is now 40 and I bought him two bottles of low dose aspirin - one to keep here at home andd one for when he stays in the city and has a small place there to stay. Dr's here and in the U.K. told me that this helped to keep me alive

whern |I ran out of low dose aspirin then I would take a half of ordinary aspirin - the 325mg - didn't hurt me in any way

Aspirin daily is supposed to help prevent colon cancer as well as some things like heart attack and stroke, and there is some evidence about dementia, but for some people it is not really a good thing. For instance, my husband has always had nose bleeds. If he takes an aspirin a day he has a nose bleed a day as it is a blood thinner. That is why it helps with heart attack and stroke. Aspirin is a great anti inflammatory. For him fish oil supplement is a better choice, although more expensive. I do not take an aspirin a day, because I donate blood and platelets a lot. You cannot have aspirin for 72 hours before donating blood products. On the other hand, that keeps my blood flowing well and fresh. It also means my blood pressure, pulse, and platelets and clotting are monitored frequently. It helps make sure I stay healthy. Now, if I were to have any symptoms of heart attack and stroke I would be chewing an aspirin right away for first aid. The apple a day is full of natural fiber and lots of vitamins and it is a great way to stay healthy as well. It has always been said that garlic helps with blood pressure as well, and science is not agreeing with it.

It's the same thing here. I am supposed to take one baby aspirin a day myself. But I have not done it in a long time. My Endocrinologist had told me to do that. The only down side to taking aspirin is that it could upset your stomach.

@ eagletrek2I also take Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar in all my drinking water but omit the honey as I just like the flavour. But I also take cinnamon tablets and drink garlic tea for hypertension too. I still take a low dose aspirin daily and have to do so all of my life. I am recovering from mega heart surgery but going more natural too to get healthy. My cholesterol is still high but need to get that lowered. Any ideas would be welcomed

Really.. if that is so, a lot of people with heart and blood pressure issues will surely happy with this new information.
This is my first to hear this, my mom been taking her medicine for 4 years because of her blood pressure but I never seen aspirin to her medicine box. I am so excited to hear more about this, but is that safe to take even without the prescription of the doctor?

Ladies - take it as soon as you reach forty or earlier if the Dr. advises. Remember it has to be a baby or low dose of aspirin. It must be taken AFTER food so that it does not damage or irritate the lining of your stomach.
This is an excellent discussion as this is a way to save lives for people who have a history of heart disease in theor families - such as mine. Many thanks mariaperalta

@ricki: the thinking is that if you take say meds for hypertension once a day then the effects do wear off and the most common time to have a heart attack or stroke is in the early hours of the morning when the3 effect has worn off. So if a person is taking meds for hypertension then the dosage should be taken twice - both morning and night. Thus covering the twenty four hour period effectively. If you are just taking aspirin alone then it is recommended that you take it at night to keep the blood thin. But should be taken after having some food.
@mariaperalta:Sorry to take over your discussion but it is so important that people are informed

Yes, I have heard of aspirin therapy. And it does work wonders to some people. Then there are those who are allergic to it. And then it is also not advised to take it without consulting a doctor first to run some tests. Who knows if it might do more harm than good.

This has been standard advice in UK for many years...
However we are told to take half a tablet - therefore reducing the side effecs.

hi mariaperalta sure hope it does as I also take a baby
aspirin a day as my doctor told me to do that several years back to protect my heart and to prevent strokes. So I do hope it
works to protect like the doctors claim it will. They claim it does work as I have seen several articles on WebM.D and thats a safe site for good information as you can trust]t it.

Aspirin is known to help thin the blood and is much safer than Wafarin or Heparin however, as in all forms of medicating medicine it should always be under advisement from a qualified doctor. We should never attempt to self medicate - so in a way, I don't think we can ever treat aspirin to be like apples which can be taken by a normal healthy person.
I read that you need to take 325mg dosage and I am wondering if that is an error. I suggest you reconfirm with your doctor because this really sound way too high. The highest I have heard to my knowledge from people around me is 5mg only. Perhaps you might have a slightly serious and different medical situation. But, whatever it is and for your health's sake do clarify with your doctor who recommended this dosage.
