Some of the things people post on Facebook

So yesterday my friend posts something like "hold your pokes, I'm on a phone call, and I don't want to get any texts".
And I'm thinking:
1. And your friends monitor your posts every second and are going to see this? While you're still on the phone?
2. And why the heck would you want to get a text message every time you get a darn poke?
So I replied "unpoke".
And she replies, "darn it, I just got a text message from that while I was still on the call".
And I'm going, "so just ignore the text until you're off the call".
"Can't, it keeps messaging until I open it".
And I'm going, "that's just annoying, change your settings."
And she says, "should have turned the volume down".
Bad me, but seriously, why would you want every Facebook notification to go to a text message? Am I the only person who is just seriously annoyed my constant messaging like that?
She is on myLot, so I imagine she'll be by here to reply and give me heck. hahaha

I don't think I know this person, at least not from Lamby's hint. I don't have that problem, due to my cell phone is STILL missing, but it also wasn't connected to FB either. I think if I were in that situation, I would be able to ignore it until I was off the phone, unless suddenly ALL my friends decide to poke me at once, then I'd have a problem...

Lamby you did it wrong, see when you poke me on FB, I hear this little "ding" I didn't hear your poke...
You know Dawn, I forgot, I leave FB open when I am studying, the only time I close it is if I am taking a test. So I hear not only poking, but anyone who comments on my status or on a status I have commented on and it doesn't really bother me. In fact it lets me know that the world is still going on....

If it goes off every few seconds, then yes, that would be annoying, but I only hear it maybe 2-3 times in 30-60 minutes, depending on the time of day.

I don't think your friend could do anything when she wants to keep tabs with Facebook via her mobile phone when evidently we would not be by the computer the entire time to keep up with the social whims and woes.
Paranoia? You decide.
For your friend not to get these alerts she will need to log off from her mobile's Facebook app and log back on when she's away from the computer. It could be inconvenient or you will just have to be tolerant with all those bothering,
However, she would not do anything when she is outside using the mobile receiving or making calls because thanks to today's mobile multitasking capabilities the FB would not log off when there's an incoming or outgoing call. It is unfortunate here, because there's nothing she can do with the customizations.

Only thing she could have done once she was on the call was turn the volume down. But she could change her settings when she is not on a call.

In a scenario, where she is picking up a call on her mobile with her Facebook app still logged on. For her to do that, she will be meddling with the overall alert tone volume for her mobile which is responsible for her incoming messages (text), chats and even warning tones.
I don't think she would want to do that since it is going to be tedious besides it will be difficult to do it every time she picks up a call. It is impractical and impossible too.

Artemis, I can control the sound of the text SEPARATELY from the overall volume of the phone. Here is what you don't know. I have a very simple phone. I get all alerts via text and not like most phones which are either an android or whatever else uses the mobile application. It has nothing to do with the mobile application for Facebook because I don't have that. If I want to go into Facebook with my phone, I would have to open a mini web browser but I have too small screen to read everything well without straining my eyes. I basically just didn't think about removing the volume at the time but should have. At the moment, I was focused on the call.

Oh, that's a bit more attached to Facebook than I would want to be. I tend to wander in for a bit, look around, like a few things, make a few comments and wander back out again.
I would likely have done the same thing if I saw such a message.

yeah, that's too attached for me too. The funny things was, she said the texts keep her OFF of Facebook. I didn't get that until she explained that she could see comments that were made, and decide whether to go back and reply to them.

Exactly, Dawn. I can reply from the phone too so that I don't have to be on Facebook. Comments left allow me to identify what they are responding to.

It seems that recapping our conversation from Facebook has actually had the opposite for you. I'm laughing like hell over here that you did this. Then to make me laugh even more I see the conversation in the second post between you and Lamb. I totally lost it when he says weiners right after you.
It doesn't send me notifications like it does for you. I have a simpler phone. You said you get notified for emails right? I don't get that. I only get texts for a few things and because it is a text message, I don't have settings on the phone to adjust it except to remove all sound just for that. It's repetitive every minute because that's how this phone is. It has been helpful in keeping me off Facebook while I do other things so it has paid off.
Sooo, I'm not giving you heck. If anything, I'm laughing with you at myself. If I can't do that, I'm too serious a person, which I hope I'm not as much anymore.

I think you can also restrict what items produce notifications, like if you want comments and not pokes, for example.

haha I knew you'd be along eventually...
Yeah, every phone is different. The thing with the tone repeating if you don't pick up a text would drive me certifiably bonkers, especially if I were getting them for things such as pokes...

Raz said something yesterday on Facebook that got me thinking and I went into the privacy settings for Facebook so I checked it out. Apparently, I can control my notifications for specific friends also to be mobile. Also, though, and this is the best part, I can control between what hours I want the text alerts should I choose to.

I would find it annoying if facebook notifications will be sent automatically on my phone. I tried doing this before thinking that it might help me keep track of things online but instead I got some junk mail and unnecessary messages.

I get notifications for some Facebook things (not pokes or likes), but they are easy to ignore. They don't keep buzzing if I don't pick them up.

I see. haha, I guess being active on facebook ain't always a good thing. If you involve yourself to much with other people online, they tend to do the same and end up annoying you.

It's the games that I mostly avoid. From what I hear, you get sucked in, and you never find your way back out.

I was wondering if she really thinks you to stay by the computer all the time and have the page constantly open on Facebook so that every time she wants to tell you something, you can reply instantly? And how can you hear what she says on the phone? I mean that is making Facebook seem dangerous, if for instance, I am on it and I have to make a call and someone else on the other end hears it.
I do not want text messages everything I get a poke. Why I get loads of photos of my new grandsons and I do not give them text messages all the time.

I don't do enough facebook to even really understand all of this though it does sound very annoying which is probably why I limit myself on there. I have one daughter that just has to post each and every thought and a couple of times it has affected me because then people are calling and texting me to find out what the heck is going on. When my grandson got burned and in the hospital, it was horrible. I KNEW that he was going to be ok and so did those close to the situation. She gets on there in the middle of the nite and while bored just posted that she was in the hospital with him and bored. OMG...brite and early I get awoken with all kinds of calls from people wondering what happened while she slept through it all.

Oh, I just can't understand how people can stand to have everything sent to them when someone has poked them or responded to them on facebook or even every time that one of their friends posts a status update. I wouldn't be able to do the facebook mobile app just for that reason. Now I do have a couple of friends that I have subscribed to and I do get text message notifications when they have posted, but that really is something just for a select few friends.

There are settings to limit it to only certain types of posts, or even posts from certain people. Why she wants her phone to notify her for pokes, of all things, only she could say.

Yep, she needs to change her settings (unless she likes getting all those notifications!). I know I'm hooked on Facebook, but I'm not that crazy that I need it following me everywhere I go. And geez, do they still do "pokes" . . . that got so old so quick . . . I didn't even think people were doing that anymore!!!!!!!

Oh the fun of Facebook! Don't you love it? Not stuff like that but I do like Facebook for the most point! I had a friend, who has deleted me,was probaly the the top drama queen I knew on Facebook! I mean she complained on Facebook, usually more then once a day, about everything! From her love life,to her job to, trashing her college education! She was unbelievible! Now the drama I see the most is someone I will keep as a friend! Why? She is my oldest neice! She is getting married next January and is in college. Her drama is how much she misses her soon to be husband (he is in the Marines stationed in North Carolina),how she hates college, how unhappy she is with life and lots of other things! I know life is sucky at times but do you have to let the whole world know? She is 21 and she thinks 21 sucks just wait until she get older! She might be in for a rude awaking!

I have not turned on my mobile notifications of Facebook since I know that it could be really annoying since I am a member of a lot of online selling groups and they could be posting every second! So I just log in to mt account if I wanted to and if there were urgent messages coming from any of my friends or relatives they can always call me or send me a text message.

I do get mobile notifications, but they don't go to text messages, and they don't repeat until I pick them up, so it's easy to ignore them if I want to.

I get a notification on my phone every time someone changes their status or loads a pic it messages me. It's not in my texts though. They just show up on my screen. They don't make a noise.

Mine show up and make a noise, but I can set them not to. And I don't get notified for pokes or likes. That would be too much.
