I know that I'm really late to the party with this one, but my sister brought me her copy of Harry Potter a few weeks ago and I finally got around to reading it. I really enjoyed the book and I can't believe that it took me so many years to decide to read the books, they really are great.
If you are a reader like me, has there ever been a time that you've been late to the party with reading a book or a series of books? What are some of the great books that you've read recently? I'm the kind of person that loves to read and there are few things that I won't read although I have to admit that I'm not interested in the 50 Shades of Grey because of some of the things that I've heard about those.

I didn't read the Harry Potter books but I did see the movies. As for Fifty Shades of Grey I am with you I am not interested in reading them at all. I get enough excitement in my marriage with out that sort of thing.

I wish that I could say that I too got enough excitement in my marriage without that sort of thing, but I would be lying if I was to say that.

You definitely are a very lucky person. I would say that we mostly have a good relationship and we definitely have wonderful children. However, there really is something to be desired in the bedroom.

We keep it spicy to say the least. I am one of the lucky ones, good husband, good marriage, and good kids, not that there isn't trouble from time to time because we are no way perfect, but we have been very blessed.

I have never liked the harry Potter books or movies. I had no interest in them. My son does, he likes them all.

I think one of the reasons that it took me so long to pick them up and start reading them was because of the fact that I didn't think that they were really of a genre that I would really enjoy. However, I was amazed to find that after just a couple of chapters, I was hooked.

I imagine that might be the case with the movies as well. However, whenever I've walked in the room and one of the movies have been on it has pretty much been in the middle of the movie and for that reason I wasn't able to get into them.

Since I've gotten through several of the books now, I actually went over to my mother's house over the weekend and watched the first movie. It was a very good movie, but I still think that the book was a lot better.

Well, I don't know if my situation would fit what you consider being late to the party but I just started reading Clive Cussler's books last year. I read about three or four books that I just picked at random and after becoming a big fan, decided that I was going to collect and read all of them. So I started reading the Dirk Pitt adventures from the very first novel. The earliest books in this series have been out for the better part of three decades. So I guess you could say I was a little late to the party as well.

I think that we are all allowed to be late to the party from time to time. Though I haven't seen it to be the case with the Harry Potter books, the main thing that I've noticed when I'm late to read some books is that there will be some things in the books that are a bit dated when you do finally get around to reading them.

I remember that I started reading Harry Potter just to be able to talk with my grandchildren. But before I had read 10 pages I was totally taken by the book. I loved it. And I also loved the movies. I think I loved much better the first one because I was thrilled with the special efects. I imagined how it would have been to see a movie like that when I was small!!!

My children have seen several of the movies, but I have to admit that I've yet to see them. I mean I will watch them eventually, but I do want to read the books first. Even though I've been late to the party, I still figured that I would eventually read the books and I do make it a habit to always read the books before I will watch movies that are based on books.

As I type, I`m watching the first Harry Potter film on TV. Even if it is not the first time I watch it, I still find it awesome.

I am always late for everything. Books, movies, music...you name it. That includes Harry Potter. Although I started reading Harry Potter when I was about 8 years old, I finished reading the series when I was 15 years old, and up to now I still haven't watched all of the Harry Potter films. I remember when I was a kid I was reading Sorcerer's Stone while my grandma was reading Chamber of Secrets. She was always one book ahead of me. I stopped reading Harry Potter at age 11 because I only had the first four books and didn't have the means to get the other three. But my interest in the books came back when I was 14 because I had friends who were also crazy about the series, and I finally got courage to borrow some books from the library. I'm also late to the Hunger Games series, but a friend recommended it to me so maybe I'm going to read it soon.

If you have the opportunity, I would definitely recommend that you read the Hunger Games. My ten-year-old daughter has now read the first two books of the series and she is getting started on the third book. She seems to love them just as much as I do.

Hey D, Better late than ever. Considering I've read all books in their entirety 4 times. The last time I read entire series in 12 days. I literally couldn't put them down. The author out did herself. FYI she recently completed and adult book, "The Casual Vacancy". I just ordered it online for my ereader. Anticipation is killing me. lol. TO answer the latter part of the discussion, I was a late comer to the Sue Grafton, Alphabet series. If you're not familiar with this she is an author who uses alphabet as titles for her books. A is for Alibi,B is for burglar, and so forth. I just received a message from her own facebook stating that she finished her latest book, W is for Whew. Another I cant wait to buy. Happy Reading my friend. Now you have to decide where you belong. Ravenclaw, slytherin, hufflepuff, or my favorite Gryffindor. Yes, I am nuts when it comes to Harry Potter. lol ttys dml

I have read a few of Sue Grafton's books, but I have to admit that I've not read them in order. I picked up a few of them for $.25 each at a yard sale a couple years ago and I have to say that I really have enjoyed them.
As far as deciding where I belong as far as the four houses goes, I have to admit that I'm not really sure where I belong, but I certainly do enjoy reading about all of Harry's adventures.

Yes, I read those back last year when my sister bought a copy of The Hunger Games for me and I read it in just a few days. After I'd finished the first book, I had to borrow the second two from her because I was committed to them. Now, Kathryn is actually pretty much in the middle of Catching Fire (she read The Hunger Games in November and asked my sister to borrow her other two books, but Shari told her that she would get them for her as a gift at some point, that wish was realized when she was given the last two books for Valentine's Day.)

I really didn't think that I would be all that into The Hunger Games either because it sounded like it would be something very gory and violent, but I quickly discovered that I really did enjoy reading the books. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought that it was going to be.

I have never read Harry Porter and don't plan to. I know they aren't for me. I don't get int0 wizards and stuff like that.
My younger brother and his whole family have read the the whole series and seen all the movies. So has my older brother and his daughter Ingrid.

I didn't think that I would be able to get into them either because I've never been a person that really gets into wizards and such either. However, I was shocked to realize that I was pretty much hooked after the first two chapters of the book.

Hey I also can't believe it took you a long time to read a good book. I love Harry Potter, I've been hooked on it since I was in high school, I've read the first 4 books at that time then gradually read the succeeding books after that til I reached college. Also I'm reading Dan Browns, Robert Langdon's series, from Angels and Demons to Da Vinci Code up to the latest Lost Symbol, also now that he's released a new book that's in addition to his series which is entitled Inferno, and I'm excited to read the new one again. I like it's controversy and the fictional, almost factual secrets behind the stories, its really great you should try.

Those are some books that I've never read yet but they are something that is on the list of books that I would like to read. I almost got them to read them once and I can't remember why I didn't at the time, but I did note that I did eventually want to read them.

This was a few years ago. Back when I was just out of university and I was still looking for a job. The internet wasn't such a big deal then, so most of the free-time was spent reading.
I remember finally catching up to reading 'Lord of the Flies'. I distinctly remember thinking that it would have been a good paper for one of my subjects in school.

I read "The Lord of the Flies" when I was in high school and if I remember correctly, this was a book that was read for a social studies class as opposed to a book that was read for my English class. I also remember that I did have to write a paper on the book and it was something that I really got a lot out of because of the fact that "The Lord of the Flies" was a book that I actually did find to be a book that was a relatively easy read.

If I am not mistaken, I was able to read the first four books on 2002 when my officemate received a package from his sister containing the first four books. So he asked me if I wanted to borrow. So I read those books while at the office. But the last one, until now we haven't met yet, he he. I already watch the movie.
Have a great day!

I suppose I am about halfway through the series and I am completely committed to them for right now. I'm loving the books and I can't wait to get the next book and get started reading again. These really are great books. I won't watch the movies until after I've gotten through reading the books.

I love the books i wrote the best lol
But now that I do research work on the Internet all the time I have to admit I don't read much, but I loved the red tent by Anita Diamond. It is version of the story of Leah in the bible.

I like writing almost as much as I like reading. I think that these two things are characteristics that tend to go hand in hand. Of course, I'm not able to say that I've ever completed a book, although I do have a manuscript that I've written that is getting pretty close to completion.

I started reading Harry Potter about the time the 3rd or 4th book came out, before the first movie.
I remember picking up a book and reading it at the movie premier later!
Mostly, tho, I listened to them on audio. I can't say I "read" with my eyes the first 6, but the last one I did. I bought the audio and the roomie bought the book, but she listened to it and I read the book, since its harder for her to read due to her vision (or relative lack of it.)
I've read the Hunger Games books and enjoyed them. I'm looking forward to the next movie.

I'm really looking forward to the second Hunger Games movie as well. This is also something that I know that my daughter is going to be looking forward to as well. Right now she is pretty much halfway through Catching Fire and I have to say that she is reading that quicker than I've ever seen her read a longer book like that before. You see, she is only ten years old and she is becoming a voracious reader, just like her mother.

I read each and every Harry Potter book before i saw any of the movies. They are awesome books. I'm behind in the Game Of Throne series. The True Blood books i just cant seem to get into tho i love the t.v. series. I want to read the 50 Shades Of Grey series but haven't yet. The twilight books i read one liked it and then tried to read the second one and couldn't get into it so about half way through i was done. The Hunger Games i'm behind in because i saw the movie first lol. I love to read and will read just about anything except harlequin romance books the soap opera type no way don't like those at all lol.

I know what you are saying about the Twilight books. The second one was the hardest of the four books to read. I just didn't feel like the second book was written with as much passion as the first, third and fourth books were written with.

Yes I have also experienced the same thing. I bought a boxed set of harry potter novels two years ago. But I didn't even take out a book and read till last December. But when December started, I thought of reading the first book. But after reading the first book I could not stop reading the other parts. I have completed 5 parts of the series till now. I will soon complete other parts also.

Well, I've gotten through the first two of them now and I called my mother today to let my sister know that I will be bringing her second book back to her so that I will be able to borrow the third one from her. I really don't want to start reading something in between them because I find that as much as I resisted them at first, they really are great books.

Don't worry, I also got to read about Harry Potter last year. My husband just gave me my Kindle apps on iPad full of ebooks and some of these are the complete Harry Potter series. I got intrigued because I have seen the movies but never read the book. Now, I have to agree that the movies isn't even half as exciting as reading it.

You've definitely said here the reason that it has and will continue to always be my policy to read the books before I will watch the movies. I don't think that there has ever been a movie that has been as good as the books are. When you read, it is much more open to your own interpretation.

I like to read the most recent books because I can decide if I like them or not and my opinion isn't dependent on someone else positive or negative commentary. I try to stay out of books that everyone already read or even worse they made a movie based on it. But sometimes it's worth to make an exception. Like in your case for example.
Harry Potter is a great series and I'm surprised everytime I hear that someone didn't read it yet. I used to be so popular that people were waiting at a bookstores on midnight to buy a new volume in the day of premiere.

I guess I should be one that shocks you because there do tend to be a lot of times that I'm late to the party with books. I mean I am quite a reader, but it does seem that many of the books that I read are not books that are nearly as mainstream as the Harry Potter series has been.
