Struggling with depression

This time of the year is the time of year that I struggle the most with depression. The reason for that is because of the fact that it was 18 years ago that I knew that my father was going to pass away and thus late February and early March has not been a time of the year that has been easy for me since then.
Do you suffer from depression as well? If you do suffer from depression like I do, is there a reason for your depression or is it something that you are not able to explain? Most of all, I would love to know if there are certain times of the year where the depression is worse for you than it is during other times of the year?

yes I go through bouts of depression but it is not related to certain times of the year, or certain events that happened in the past. It is true for so many people though.

as a therapist I can tell you that dystemic depression is situational depression that is the kind people can pinpoint,
unknown origin is clinical depression and the origin is lack of seratonin in the brain.

Thank you so much for sharing that information. I've always been interested in anything that has to do with psychology and this is something that I don't remember ever learning about in the psychology classes that I took in college.

I think that there are probably just as many people that have depression of unknown origin as there are people that are able to pinpoint the reason that they are depressed at a certain time.

Hi friend, lot of ways are available to avoid unwanted stress in our life. Don't give importance to the depression, it will spoil your time, spend it in a good way

While I do agree with you that there are a lot of ways that we are able to avoid unwanted stress in our lives, I also think that it is impossible for us to be able to avoid all stress in our lives.

I have been struggling with depression since I was first diagnozed with clinical depression and acute anxiety back in 2002, I had a nervous breakdown at work, I have been in and out of counseling and been on different antidepressants. Finally I have found one that actually works. I actually find the Summer time the worse part of the year for my depression, my moods crash June to September. That could be also due to SAD (seasonal affective disorder) I function better when I am cold.

My sister has also been diagnosed with clinical depression as well. Hers is a clinical generalized depression and she is medicated and it is something that does help her. For me, I really don't think that medication would really be something that would make a lot of difference.

I was depressed when my marriage was falling apart. I haven't really noticed anything associated with a certain time of the year.

I can completely see why you would have been depressed when your marriage was falling apart. I don't think that there are many people that can be in the process of losing their marriage that wouldn't go through some kind of depression.

I do have severe depression from a head injury i got when i was 8 yrs old and hit by a hit and run car. The side of my brain i'm told that deals with emotion was all messed up and i have severe depression now because of it. I take prozac and have a doctor i see every few months. Also i am more depressed in the winter and around Christmas time. I think i am more depressed in the winter because we stay inside more and i hate the cold and around Christmas i think i wish i had kids to see open gifts and such on Christmas. I have always wanted kids and now at 41 i'm too old to keep trying after 4 doctors in my life told me i might never be able to make babies. So yes i have depression and this is when i am depressed most but i take my meds call my doctor talk to my hubby and start conversations on my lot to keep me from doing anything harmful to myself and to not be so depressed.

I do think that for me, if I'm able to be around people when I am going through a depression that I am able to deal with things a lot better. It really is something that does make me feel a lot better. Of course I also do have my two children and they really make quite a difference for me as well.

I could certainly understand going into depression at certain times of the year. It isn't uncommon to hear people at their low during the holidays. But I think that triggers for depression comes in different forms and sizes. While it could be a time of the year for you, it could be different for others.
I feel mostly low when I deal with a certain kind of person/people.

Oh, there are definitely some people that I have to deal with from time to time that will make me end up in a very low place as well. However, it really is something that has to do with a certain time of the year for me.

Yes definatly. And that's one of the hardest things I find about dealing with depression. I know when I'm going to be going through a hard patch. (For me it's October/November). And I understand completely why it's going on and I can feel it coming on but there isn't much that I can do to stop it. I've learned in the last couple of years that I just have to roll with it. When I know it's going to be bad; I arrange to have one day completely to myself and I completely lose it and once I'm over it I can go back to being "normal".

My mother tends to do pretty much the same thing for herself during her period of the year that is really tough for her. Like with me, hers is also late February and early March. She does make sure to take a week of vacation during the first week of March so that she is able to have some time for herself when she knows that things are really going to be tough for her.

I am sorry you are having a problem with depression. I know what a struggle that can be. I don't have depression too often...once in a while for some unknown reason......they say like you pointed out that is can have something to do with the anniversary of some event in our life that has had an impact on us.

I also think that depression can be something that comes on with seemingly no explanation at all. But, I know that is not the case for me because of the fact that I was still pretty young when my father passed away and it really has been something that has impacted almost every aspect of my life.

I get depressed with gray days when Summer is gone and cold sets in. That`s why I try to go for vacations to warmer places at least for a week each year. It gives me strenght to accept the rest of the Winter.

I would love to be able to have the opportunity traveling for at least one week to a place that is sunny and warm when we are going through the cold months of the year here. However, being as how I am still the mother of two younger kids that are in school, this really isn't something that is possible for me to be able to do.

Every month I have short depressions. I have a history of horrible depression too but of course I did not take any medication I just help my self with a lot of prayer. I am quite better now and depression is not a problem for me, for now.

I guess I do have to consider myself to be pretty lucky that I don't have to deal with depression all of the time. This would be something that I really don't think that I would be able to deal with.

I don't suffer with depression but I have read that the limited light in the winter can be partly to blame. We are just coming towards the end of the long nights and short days so maybe your depression will lift of its own accord soon.
There are special light bulbs you can buy that help.
One of the best things for cheering me up (I know this is not necessarily helpful for genuine depression) is to go out and take a walk.

You know, believe it or not, exercise is actually one of the natural things that many doctors will recommend to help with a genuine depression as well because of the fact that exercise does help your body to release some happy hormones.

DEPRESSION when you lose confidence in what you believe. It can hurt you with wounded heart, realize no beauty to world, even when friends around to boost that confidence. It closes all the doors of opportunity and poisoning your ability to think. Like any other kind of feeling, it will heal and time is the essence of everything... first , ask God to forgive and give us strength to find happiness in all of this depressing moment. MOVE and try to learn the positive for your future. Try to forgive and forget the side of discouraging to the moment of truth. .. always says I can do it, research ,practice and work for it. I come up with these... it will not help me to push into my dreams if i stay in pulling down my feelings. I cross the moment when nobody believes in my teaching, nobody listen, and some teachers says Im no good, how I was able to stand to students and no one is interested and dont understand by the examination Im giving them. DEPRESSION can be overcome by understanding your craft, keep practicing, keep on reading updates, use your heart in choosing career with the grace of God. Depression count no season, it comes and knock when you are not with the spirit of God, for God will only provide you with strength an confidence.

I agree with you that depression is something that we are able to overcome in our lives. However, I also feel like most people that have been through a depressive period in their lives will likely go through another one at some point during their life.
