If you're ever in Lake Charles, Louisiana and want fresh seafood for lunch or supper, Pat's of Henderson is the place to go. They are family owned and operated, have been around for quite awhile and even when they're busy, you get service as if you're the only customer in the whole place. My mom and I have long enjoyed sharing takeout from Pat's of Henderson on Sundays or Friday nights. We typically get broiled catfish that is perfectly seasoned, with baked potatoes and pecan pie. They also have awesome fried oysters and shrimp, and serve fried catfish bites in a bowl at your table while you wait on your dish to come out. Their hush puppies are absolutely scrumptious! They also have rooms for club meetings, family gatherings and special events, like corporate Christmas parties. If you book one of these at Pat's of Henderson, you won't have to followup on your attendance list. Nobody misses a chance to dine at Pat's of Henderson!

I lived just out of Baton Rouge for thirteen years. I went to Pat's with a group of friends. It was a bit of a drive but well worth it. I remember that the place was packed. This was several years ago and I imagine they have improved and probably expanded since then.
There are several restaurants around that area that are quite renowned. Did you ever go to Hymel's?

Hey yoyo! No, I haven't been to Hymel's, but yes, there are numerous renowned restaurants throughout Southern Louisiana. Pat's of Henderson is one of my mom's and my special favorites.

I had to smile you spoke of hush puppies being absolutely scrumptious, well here in the UK, hush puppies are referred to as shoes! So there was me thinking you were choosing on old leather! So much for the language difference. I am not a seafood person at all my friend. I once got a meal cooked by a friend of mine, she didn't tell me what was in it, until I took a few bites, when she said it was squid, well I heaved, and couldn't touch another mouthful. I guess I must have a seafood intolerance.

Heya wolfs! LOL I guess I forgot to mention that hush puppies were invented during the pioneer days in America. While frying fish in cornbread, the women would fry up bits of cornbread and toss to the dogs who were smelling dinner and getting hungry. As they tossed them the cornbread bits, they would say "Hush puppies!" and so began the tradition of cornbread appetizers in America, or so the story goes. Today they are made either plain or with onions, diced peppers or whatever one's taste might be. That's too bad about your seafood intolerance. Personally, as I'm going vegan, I've given up seafood, so I'll have to introduce Pat's of Henderson to vegan substitutes, I suppose.
