I am planning to start a blog but confused whether I go for blogspot or wordpress?
I like the way wordpress themes looks nicer, cleaner and more professional, while blogspot is a little fancier. Reading comments about these two sites I've learned that blogspot is a lot more eaisier to navigate especially for beginners. And I see lots of bloggers uses blogspot because it's easier also to connect with adsense if you want to monetize your blogs.
I have my hand written niche ready to post anywhere. First plan is to share my niche to eHow, squidoo etc. But I guess it's better to start with my own blog first and have someone review it.
My two main purpose is to improve my writing skills and the other is to monetize my time. Because "time is money", right? Just being honest...Lol

If you are a beginner and want to use the blog hosting for free, then I'd suggest go for blogspot. The free version of Wordpress is easy to use, but it's not configurable, this is what I don't like. Sometimes I'd prefer to add some gadgets into my blog, hence I go for blogspot, which I can have more control.

I signed up for an account both with wordpress and blogger but I haven't really gotten serious about blogging yet despite my eagerness to do so because I couldn't focus and I don't have a regular time blogging. Additionally, I need to learn a lot about many blogger terms, how to's when it comes to earning extra, etc. I hope I could learn from you and the other mylot members by sharing tips with me..:)

Thanks Adval, I am new to blogging also. Blogging needs a lot of time to learn. And I am hoping soon someday I will be good in blogging too.

While I use other blogging sites to express myself, my main hang-out is blogspot/blogger. In fact, I'm in the process of creating an entire website where most of it consists of a lot of blogs attached together. Since it will be my main website, I'm going to be showing it as my website here, so feel free to visit my profile and check it out. Should have it up in a matter of minutes...

Although I use both, my favorite one for doing the most with is Blogspot (a.k.a. Blogger). In fact, I'm, currently, in the process of building a website made out of blogs, and am using the blogs from there as my main ones.
When I get my website finished enough to grand open, I'll be using it as my website for my profile page here.

Hi shaina, i like blogspot since it is easier to create. I was told wordpress also good but i never tried it. Yeah you are doing good thing that you want to go for other writing sites to improve you writing skills, even a blog need that, if you write a good content and with your own words then there is a chance of getting huge traffic to your blog. Yeah time is money.
All the best.

Thanks Jotomy, yes I have some compilation of my writings that I wanted to share. And I think it is better to have my blog first. Maybe I will try both blogspot and wordpress.

It is good that to start a blog. If you are well versed in designing with HTML level, then it is good to god with wordpress. There you are allowed to used the free templates, you can edit those by HTML codings and you can create your own.
else, you can go ahead with blogspot, its very much useful for beginners, here readymade templates are displayed while creating a blog. You can just type and design your own blog. And even you can create your own template.

I like blogspot a bit more, it is easier to navigate and contain many simple usable features for most of the average users. The instruction for beginner to use this site is clear and precise, you will be less likely to confuse compare to Wordpress. Just a personal opinion regarding both sites. Other may not feel this way.

Self-hosted WordPress: if you're serious, it's the only option.
Blogger is fine if you just want to try things out (and can be monetised). WordPress.com can't be monetised on the free version.
Blogger is ugly as heck: I've only ever seen ONE blog on there that wasn't horrible to look at.

I heard that wordpress is better than blogger but up to now I am not used to using wordpress. I have a few blogs with blogger and I have found blogger quite interesting. I haven't found out how come people think that wordpress is better than blogger.

I have been using wordpress since 2 years, before that I used blogger. Blogger and wordpress are both good but believe me if you used WP you wont ever want to switch to blogger. WP is easily customized, its more user friendly, its professional and what not. I have registered two domains with WP and they work just awesome.

I'm not sure either one is really better than the other. I've used Blogger and never really had a problem with it, though I admit that the themes and whatnot can be somewhat limited. If you're really interested in making many, many customizations then you're probably best off with Wordpress. But if you're really just looking to set something up that looks nice and then fiddle with the fonts or maybe the header image, either one will allow you some pretty decent freedom to do so.
And for what it's worth, Blogger does also allow you to upgrade your URL to remove the .blogspot from the address.

You reminded me of myself. :)
I am also a fickle minded lady who is uncertain whether to create a Wordpress or a Blogger account. I ended up with Blogger. I had a hard time navigating Wordpress, and you are correct, Blogger is easy to use and very neat, for me.
Why don't you open both? Just a suggestion.
