My Mom and Dad went to our house yesterday. They usually call me ahead if they were coming. But of course, I was happy they came. My mom was asking for my youngest son. And I asked why. She said that she just needs Sean, my 8 year old son, to sign some papers. I said, "what?' I was surprised to see that the papers were for a Life Insurance Policy. She is intending to give my son a life insurance policy. The term was like it has to be paid for 4 years and then wait for 3 years. And on the 8th year, my son will receive a certain amount and every two years thereafter as long as he is lives. I was shocked and happy! I didn't expect her to be giving my son that kind of gift when it wasn't even my son's birthday. I was so touched with what she did. All the more I felt how I really shouldn't deserve such kindness to her and dad when I have become their pain in the neck for a number of years. I wanted to cry but held on to it. But now, thinking about all of it, my tears just won't stop....I thank mom for being such a wonderful parent and for always taking care of me and my family.

Wow that is really amazing. Your mom was very thoughtful for getting your son such a policy. I am sure its overwhelming to know that kind of love from your mother. It will help your son and yourself a lot it sounds like.

My son didn't know what he was signing for. And so when my parents left I explained it to him. And he was so happy. Then he asked me if he wishes not to spend the money every time the company sends him the cheque, what will happen. Of course, I told him that his money would grow more if he would put it in a bank. And then his eyes brightened and told me, "Then I can give something to my wife to build a house!" Hahahaha! I really laughed hard but at the same time surprised at how he came up with that! But alteast I know he is thinking of spending it for his family and not only for himself.

AAAwww your son sounds sweet and smart and not like alot of kids who want to spend the money on themselves or candy and toys etc. Sounds like you have a good kid with a good heart. I bet your a proud mother and you should be.

jenny:
Your son is smart to think in that way - to keep the money. And his willingness to build a house for his wife is so lovely. You have a good mother who really care for you and your children, and I believe your son has a very good mother too, that makes him so smart and lovely.

Wow!!! This is great. And with all the issues you were having, I am sure a big surprise. Hopefully this can be a start of a continuation for great things to continue to happen for you from your moms and your relationship with your family from here.

I am so happy for you that you have a very wealth management minded parents who see the importance of using financial tools like insurance to help out with your son's future.
With the way how cost are rising each year, I firmly believe that we can no longer use traditional methods of upbringing where we work from hand to mouth and scrimping to save monies for our children. Studies have concluded that the cost to raise a healthy child to the age of 21 years old is U$4 million, so unless you are paid a CEO of a multinational corporation salary, I don't think we can ever meet this target.
I hope that every parent will read this post and learn something here.

Hi, Artemeis! Thanks for joining in my discussion!
What you said is true. I have even tried calculating that myself. And with our financial status at this time, I am not sure if I could have sent my kids to school without the help of my in laws as well. It is hard to raise a family especially with 4 kids. I am so grateful for having great parents and in laws who will always be there to help make my kids future secure.

you're very lucky to have such kind and thoughtful parents. love from family is endless and unselfish. it makes me remind of my father, who has been giving his whold life to take care of me. my parents was divorced when i was a little girl, i can weakly remember the feeling about a family as a whole. i live with my father after they divorced and my mother started a new family few years afterwards. my father, however, decided not to marry another woman for my own good. because he thinks that the mother-in-law won't threat me like her own birth. now i'm turn to a big girl and it's time for me to protect him, also i wish he can find another woman who loves him and spend the rest of life with him. anyway, love won't stop! in the near future, your son will turn to a big boy and learn how to protect his mom, you, like a man.

Thanks, friend! I am indeed lucky to have such loving parents. To the point of thinking that I do not deserve it, but I am happy that they remained very supportive and loving.

Now, now, what were you up to that you thought you were a pain in the neck for your Mom? Anyway your Mom has forgotten all that and you should too!

She is really a wonderful mom to even extend her unconditional love to her grandchildren. Not that is the gift your son really needs for his future and not just some toys or other things. As for you being a pain to your parents, well, I'm sure we mothers almost always forget our children's mistakes and always forgives, right?

Thats so sweet of your mom :) Thats why its said , 'kids are always kids for their parents no matter how old they grown up'. Its good, you realized it and i am sure you'll try to rectify those errors. sometimes we misunderstood our parents, sometimes they cant understand our situation, perhaps thats called 'generation gap' and its not a new thing..we have to just understand and adjust a little bit, all will be well. Good luck dear :)

Hi,
Really what a pleasant surprise for you ! Our parents always love us and care for us. They always want to see our progress and they become happy with our happiness. You are so lucky that you have such loving parents. It reminds me my parents. They are also worrying about me and their grand son. They have done many things for us.

Hello, Roshigo! Indeed, they are. It just proves that no matter what happens or if there were times in the past that we have hurt them, they will continue to love us.
