Yup!, no rice and no coffee for 40 days for me and I'm on day 19, then it's 21 days more to go. Since I made it this far I know I can make it. :)

The rice I can understand but why the coffee? Coffee is actually good for you, or so yet another recent study says, they can't make up their minds. 1-2 cups a day is fine. But you know it's good that you can give something up for 40 days

I ate big bowl of rice and not only one but more than one big bowlful of it reason why I chose rice thinking I can't make a meal without it and do I challenge myself. Coffee? oh.. I'm a coffee drinker and really drink loads of cups a day and I think I can't make it too, so I challenge myself of not having it for 40 days. God is good co's I know He is with me with these.

You have chosen a difficult sacrifice for the lenten season. I admire you. I had "no softdrinks or soda for 40 days" I did it. yepeeeee.. but coffee and rice? OMG, "my spirit is willing but my flesh is weak"

:)It's indeed a hard sacrifice but when we're doing it for the good of ourselves too, there is nothing too hard actually. Soda is part of it too but it's more of hubby co's he's a soda drinking he seems won't last a day without it. Hurrah to us indeed!

Is that a sort of diet you are following, lee? I can understand that no rice will mean less calories, unless you change to pasta, wheat or potatoes

It's kind of a diet but really not too. hahaha. What a confusing answer. I actually do it for lent co's my church call for a 40 days fasting and we could choose if we wan to do it in full or partial. Full fasting means no food and no water for 40 day, but none do it though co's everyone needs to eat co's we have all work. I seldom eat pasta, wheat or potatoes too. I eat more of veggies, and soup. Thank God I can stick with no rice and no coffee and actually I'm planning to go on with the no rice but will resume coffee after the 40 days fast.

I don't drink much coffee though. I more like hot chocolate. It is nice to hear that you do have a thing for lent. Maybe I should have one too. ;) As to exercise, I am just trying to do walking in the mornings here in our area. I havent had a workout eversince. After my body got use to walking, I will transfer to brisk walking. That is like running but arms and shoulders are moving too. And it is timed. Good luck to the both of us!

I do it for lent and for myself too. I'm a bit bigger now and I think rice and coffee has loads reasons to it, plus I just don't have patience in working out. I actually I cannot make it specially with the coffee co's my taste buds really love the taste of it. hahaha. I'm proud that I'm on day 20 now. I really wish I can work out too.

I can't start my day when there is no coffee around. I have a special week in a month that I skip rice and replace it with oatmeal. What's the benefit of not taking them for too long?

Oh trust me, it was the same with me. Hubby has coffee prepared for me before I even wake up, he does it because he knew I would drink coffee before I do anything in the morning. I even drink a mug of coffee at night and I have no problem going to bed. hahaha. My mom-in-law used to tell me that I won't get sleep at all because of what I'm doing but what she doesn't know I even goes to bed before her. :) Research's said that there is no really vitamins that you can get from rice aside from carbs, but rice is the main food here in our country and if you have to ask some of my family if they can make it without rice... they'll say they'll die without it.

Whoah! That's tough! I have been rice free for 2 months now, but coffee? I don't think I can last a week without my coffee. Maybe I can try, but it will be harder than the rice diet.

Yup, it's surprising indeed but it's happening and it means reality for me. In fact I'm on day 20 and 20 more to go. I hope too that I'll able to see the progress in my body as well. I really wish I can do workout, but I'm too lazy to do it, and that's the thing I'm not motivated of doing.

wow. Way to go. The rice maybe but there is no way I could go without coffee for 4 days nevermind 40 of them. Why are you going without the rice? Coffee, I can kind of understand but the rice I don't.

Way to go indeed! thanks. Yeah I know it's really hard to give up the coffee but I'm I did it. There are times though that the smell of coffee from nearby reminds me of how good it would be in my mouth. hahaha. I am doing it for lent, and doing it for myself sake too. Been a coffee drinker and I tried to see if I can give it up for awhile and I just did :).

Yes you can make it until you end up on 40 days. It's very easy to say that words for me but it's hard to do it myself. If you are long determination on your goal, I know you can make it

hahaha! It's always like that when we encourage friends to go on thinking that they do it themselves co's we know we can't make it but at least we can cheer up friends. I'm determined to finish it, and hope so I won't cheat.

I love coffee too, and just found out that I can do it without rice. I gave up coffee too even though its really hard because I saw that I drink coffee almost thrice a day and I don't think it's good for my health too specially that I don't work out.

sure you can.. you already made it half.. just focus and determination is the key to success.. i used to be a coffee drinker but when i drink coffee i notice my self having palpitations and rapid heart beat and i check it out that coffee is one of the reasons of palpitations and when i stop drinking coffee i felt fine.. no more palpitation for me.. so from then on i stop drinking it..

Thank you Neelia for the encouragement. I know that this is really hard for some people co's it was too hard for me to do it before. I did this several times in the past and I was not able to make it. Well, as for me I don't think my body has reaction when I drink coffee. I feel good drinking it actually, it's just I do it twice or thrice or more a day, so it means it's not healthy at all but I don't think I'm an addict too co's I did not make any withdrawal when I stop it.
